This swinging rendition of thetheme from the children?s hit television show was arranged in 1971 by GenePuerling and recorded by The Singers Unlimited with theOscar Peterson Trio on their album In Tune (and contained in the MagicVoices box set). This is NOT a transcription, but an authentic editioncreated from the handwritten manuscript of Gene Puerling. The fun-loving natureof the song is maintained from the original television show theme song, with upto six parts in the ensemble vocal parts. The PDF you purchase contains Editor's Notes, a Director's Score, Vocal Part (with combined rhythm reference staff), and individual parts for Piano, Bass, and Drums. Rhythm section parts are written in classic jazz notation, with a mix ofslashes/rhythmic notation with chord symbols and some essential notes and guidelines, capturing the essence of the OP Trio?s performance. Shorter in length (under 3 minutes) and withless full ensemble writing than many other Puerling charts, this piece gives plentyof opportunities to work on unisons and energetic swing feel from the vocalistsas well as a nice feature for the pianist (Level IV).

Skye Boat Song is one of my favoryte folk songs from the British Isles. "Skye" refers to the Island of Skye, a large island off the northwest coast os Scotland. There are several texts to this song; all refer, more or less, to an uprising of Scottish dissidents against the English is 1745-46. After their defeat, they fled to the Island of Skye. The text used here by the poet Robert Louis Stevenson. Scholars attribute the first half of the melody to an old se chantey and suspect thea the second half may have benn written by Annie MacLeod.

This arrangement, featuring a solo Soprano and SSA choir with Piano accompaniment, reharmonizes the traditional folk song with a contemporary twist. This arrangement would work well for any a cappella high school, college, or community choir looking for modern arrangements of traditional folk songs.

Feel free to adapt the arrangement in any way to accommodate the needs and strengths of your group. The key has been changed to suit a baritone soloist, ranges from D3 to D4. Baritone part rather than a tenor part, with the range D3-D4, but mostly sitting around G3. Some minor soprano splits, all optional.
