Arranged clarinet duet (clt/bass clt  with alt clt for bass clt)The French composer Marin Marais composed the tune as a dance for his opera Alcyone of 1706, with the title Marche pour les Matelots.The tune was subsequently included in Raoul Auger Feuillet's 1706 Recueil de contredansealong with a longways proper dance, La Matelotte, which Feuillet had himself written to go with the tune.In 1710 John Essex (d. 1744) published an English translation of Feuillet's work called, For the Further Improvement of Dancing, in which the dance is given as The Female Saylor.The words were written around 1860 while William Morris, then 26, was working as an apprentice in the office of the architect, Edmund Street, presumably under the persuasion of his fellow students who at that time had a taste for part-song. It became known as the Christmas Carol Masters in This Hall (alternative title: Nowell, Sing We Clear) Gustav Holst incorporated the carol into his work Three Carols (1916–17) along with Christmas Song: On this Day and I Saw Three Ships. Holst wrote the Three Carols for amateurs singing in his Thaxted festivals.I have arranged the March and 3 of the Sailor's Airs from the opera for clarinet duet, The march is then reprised to complete the arrangement.

He lived out his later years as a devout and charismatic clergyman in the English countryside, renowned for his direct and personal style. Amazing Grace is played three times, once in the traditional style in 3/4, then twice in a gospel swing style in 4/4. It was also the name of the Beatlesâ?? film released in the same year. Help! was primarily written by John Lennon. In later interviews he admitted that Help! was a subconscious response to the pressures of fame and that commercial pressures had forced the band to record it as an up-tempo pop song rather than a reflective ballad. This version of Help! is arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Alto Clarinet. The range will suit musicians at an intermediate level though the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms will represent a challenge. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. Published by JB Linear (A0.582003). DAVE BRUBECK began experimenting with jazz using modern time signatures and harmonies in the 1950's and '60's. His Take Five album of 1959 was a revelation of what jazz could be in a modern sense. Blue Rondo A La Turk was on that album and uses a rhythm Brubeck heard on the streets of Turkey: 9/8 time, but divided into 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2-3. I have given this an advanced rating due to the challenge of playing these rhythms tightly at a fast tempo. The score is provided for reference only since the page turns are impossible. The parts are arranged for 3 side by side pages. Also, since this version takes after one done vocally by Al Jarreau there is a section where the 1st and 2nd clarinets are invited to sing!
