Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.693000 Composed by Ben Dockery. Contemporary,Halloween,Instructional,Jazz,Standards. Score. 2 pages. Ben Dockery #3126055. Published by Ben Dockery (A0.693000). This fun, atmospheric piece for piano was written late at night. Its use of exotic harmony (chromatic mediants, slash-chords, upper extensions) creates a rich, dark palate over which a haunting melody sings. On the first page, the performer must sometimes grab notes with the LH thumb in chords that appear to be played by the RH. The student must also take care on the second page to observe the cross-overs with the left-hand. The effect is of have three hands at the piano. Pedal is used throughout. The amount of less-conventional roles between hands makes this piece good technique-building repertoire. Performance time: approximately two minutes.Follow my work and find more music at www.bendockery.com. .

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1290172 By Jeff Bjorck. By Richard Storrs Willis. Arranged by Jeff Bjorck. 19th Century,Advent,Christian,Christmas,Traditional. Score. 6 pages. Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck #880891. Published by Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck (A0.1290172). Jeff Bjorck's original solo piano arrangement of this classic Christmas carol appears on his album/CD The Wondrous Gift: A Pure Piano Christmas. On this album, Bjorck juxtaposes this piece with Silent Night because he feels that musically, the two carols are close relatives. His arrangement evokes images of a deeply dark sky as the backdrop for a myriad of gleaming stars--the setting for the angels' announcement to the shepherds of Peace on earth, goodwill toward men, from Heaven's all-gracious King. This arrangement is especially suited for Christmas Eve services, especially those held late at night.

Brass Ensemble Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1034903 Composed by Camden Hunt. Concert,Contemporary,Halloween,Instructional. Score and parts. 5 pages. Camden Hunt #3012107. Published by Camden Hunt (A0.1034903). It is eerie just before midnight, walking alone in the mist. Already spooked, it is easy to imagine being chased as the bell tower chimes their watch for more to come. Five trumpet parts emulate the Big Ben melody as the walking turns in a pace that build in suspense. Two trumpet voices create a chase scene that continues as the bells chime until the morning’s first light. As the sun rises and gradually begins to fill the sky with bright colors, the fears of the night falls away with the relief of the bell chimes signaling safety from being lost at midnight.

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548668 Composed by Adam. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christian,Christmas. Score and part. 10 pages. Jmsgu3 #3410421. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548668). O Holy Night arranged for alto sax & piano. Duration: 4:56, 44 ms. Score: 5 pg Part: 2 pg, piano part: 3 pg.Cantique de Noël The French composer Adolphe Adam was already famous as a composer of many successful ballets and operas. Then, in the 1840’s he wrote his most famous work - O Holy Night. The original song title was Minuit Chretiens or Cantique de Noël. Placide Cappeau provided the original song lyrics. The song was first performed in Roquemaure by the opera singer Emily Laurey at midnight mass in 1847. It became very popular among the French, much the way that Silent Night was famous elsewhere. In the 1850’s John S. Dwight, a Unitarian minister and music teacher translated the song into English. Adolphe Adam In his younger years, Adam studied organ and composition at the Paris Conservatoire. He also played the timpani in the Conservatoire orchestra. Adam used his savings and borrowed money to open a new opera house - the fourth opera house in Paris in 1847. Unfortunately, the Revolution of 1848 forced him to close. He taught composition at the Paris Conservatoire from 1849 until his death in 1856. Placide Cappeau The poet Cappeau was an advocate of the French Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire. Voltaire was renowned for criticizing the Catholic church, religious intolerance, and dogma in general. Consequently, Cappeau made the Redeemer figure in his song a kind of reformer of injustices, in particular, the problem of original sin. To begin with, people recognized Cappeau’s theology as eccentric, probably even doubtful. Theology In the earlier form of Minuit, the Christ figure descends to intervene with His Father’s plan to punish mankind. Traditional doctrine pronounces that Christ came from love, not to intervene. This version also declares that Christ appeared to expunge the original sin of Adam. Cappeau removed this part from him poem years later, because he just didn’t believe it. He preferred to portray Christ as the reformer of disparity and unfairness. Before long, the writer/politician Alphonse de Lamartine referred to the Minuit as the the Marseillaise of religion. Most French churchmen agreed with this idea but certainly did not consider it a tribute. Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

Cappeau removed this part from his poem years later, because he just didn’t believe it.

Brass Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1372453 By Soprano and Brass Quintet. By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Classical. 18 pages. Peet du Toit #956760. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1372453). This religious solo motet was composed when Mozart was staying in Milan. During the production of his opera Lucio Silla which was being performed there in the Teatro Regio Ducale. It was written for the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini, who had sung the part of the primo uomo Cecilio in Lucio Silla the previous year. While waiting for the end of the run (from 26 December 1772 to 25 January 1773), Mozart composed the motet for his singer, whose technical excellence he admired. Its first performance took place at the Theatine Church on 17 January 1773, while Rauzzini was still singing in Mozart's opera at night. Mozart made some revisions around 1780. On 30 May 1779, a Trinity Sunday, a revised version was performed by Francesco Ceccarelli at the Holy Trinity Church, Salzburg. Another revised version was intended for Christmas. The manuscripts of the two Salzburg versions were discovered in 1978 in St. Jakob, Wasserburg am Inn. In modern times, the motet is usually sung by a female soprano.I was tempted to combine the soprano and a brass quintet. We have performed this arrangement quite successfully at many venues, including a national music festival (Wakkerstroom, South Africa, March 2023).
