Hair is a rock musical by James Rado and Gerome Ragni (lyrics) and Galt MacDermot (music) created off-Broadway, in a cellar in Greenwich Village, in October 1967 and then played on Broadway at the Public Theater from April 1968 for four years without interruption. The New York Times said: It's finally the first musical that speaks to today. A product of the hippie counterculture and sexual revolution of the 1960s, some of his songs, inspired by New Age theory, became anthems of the peace movements against the Vietnam War. After a first export to London, the French version was created in Paris at the Théâtre de la Porte-Saint-Martin on May 30, 1969, its naked scenes causing a real scandal. The song Laissez entrer le soleil (Let the sunshine in) was performed by Julien Clerc during this French creation.Toutes les parties de chœur sont doublées à l’orchestre. Paroles françaises. For more than a year after abdicating the throne of Russia, Nicholas and his family have been under house arrest. The opera opens with the former Czar lamenting his fall from power and precarious circumstances. His wife, Anexandra, consoles him and they sing of their undying love in the duet, One Love Forever.One by one, the children awake and join them on stage. Anastasia dramatically portrays a dream she has just had. Then, in an upbrat song of hope she explains her optimistic outlook in My Name Is Anastasia. The ensemble joins her at the end, assuring one another they will all soon be rising up to life again. To while away the time, the family pretends they are at the French Ambassador's New Year's Ball.At the height of the ensuing waltz, Comrade Sladislav, Captain of the Red Guard, and a band of revolutionary guards burst it. Sladislav harangues Nicholas and the family. Then, in the vindictive Song of the Revolution, he extols the greatness of la Révolution as the family watches in fear. Nicholas and Alexandra remind each other of their one love forever and the children look for dawn in darkest night. The Captain then marches the family down to the cellar (off-stage), ostensibly to await transport. Thus trapped, they are easy prey for the revolvers of Sladislav and his men. It represents a snapshot of neighborhood living when children hollered down rain barrels, climbed apple trees and slid down cellar doors rather than staring at their iphones all day :)Â . In the later decades it became a dixieland standard as well as a staple of the barbershop quartet genre. In addition it was a popular tune of the time, and was mass-reproduced for amateur pianists in the early 20th century. In addition, this piano solo does contain one verse and one chorus of text written above the treble of the piano part.
