Therefore, every attempthas been made to keep this as accurate to the original composition as possible. Having said that, the guitarsimply does not have the ability to play all the notes simultaneously that the piano can. Because of this, somenotes have been omitted or transposed. The Grove Dictionary describes Faure as the most advanced composer of his generation in France and notes that his harmonic and melodic innovations affected the teaching of harmony for later generations. He shunned virtuosity in favour of the Classical lucidity of the French masters of the hapsichord. the precisely articulated melodic line of his songs is in the finest tradition of French vocal music. His great Requiem and his Elegie for Cello and Piano have entered the general repertoire. The "Cantique de Jean Racine" op.11 was originally written for mixed choir and piano (or organ) and dedicated to Cesar Franck, it was composed in 1864-5.

Ennio Morricone and his son Andrea rightly received a BAFTA award for the gorgeous soundtrack music.

My arrangement captures the four ?verses? that feature in this piece - each verse maintains the same thematic material but the accompaniment becomes more involved and with a thicker texture, before the piece fades away again. The guitar accompaniment is styled on the piano solo score, but tailored here and there to fit the guitar like a glove.

The key here isn?t the same as the original, but it fits right into the ?sweet spot? of the flute?s pitch range and allows for a guitar accompaniment that can use open strings to improve the sustain. Unlike other arrangements, this has plenty of space and few finger gymnastics, so the gentle movement of the original is easy to reproduce.

I also have an arrangement for two guitars which moves the melody between the guitars as the piece progresses.
