Organ - Moderately Easy - SKU: MQ.10-052-E Composed by Charles E. Callahan Jr. 20 pages. MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #10-052-E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.10-052-E). This four movement suite captures quite a bit of what makes Charles Callahan one of our most popular composers: a sense of high spirited fun, melodic lyricism, and a skillful use of the resources of the organ. The movements work quite well played separately, as well.I. Trumpet VoluntaryII. ChaconneIII. Invocation IV. Exultation.

Instrumental Duet,Keyboard - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1497857 Composed by Jenni Roditi. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. 19 pages. Jenni Roditi #1074269. Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497857). Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Encircle, Between the Octaves, originally called rotate as its impetus was to generate a steadily rotating music. Encircle was later chosen as a more evocative word. The harmony surprised me as it suggested shifts and colourations that I would not have expected to conjure. Two upper rotating parts with melodic narrative are supported by bass and baritone lower parts. The final section adds a dance-like short form to end what could otherwise have run and run and run. Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. The whole suite follows a long line from movement 1 to movement 7. However, individual pieces are well suited to be played alone too. Piano Duo is ideally two Steinway grands, otherwise, whatever is available. An enjoyment of the tensions and relationships generated between the two instruments: grand-upright, upright-electronic keyboard is to be explored as a positive. Each piece creates its own world in the suite and can be part of smaller subgroups taken from the suite, in any combination, but the order of the pieces needs to be maintained if more than one is played. Here is a taste of the background to the musical world of this 53 minute compositional suite. During a reflective time I read the following: The whole philosophy of dharma art (Buddhist art) is that you don't try to be artistic, but you just approach objects as they are, and the message comes through automatically. (Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, from 'True Perception The Path of Dharma Art.' Shambhala 2008, p.133.) The 'objects as they are' became the 'octaves as they are'. As the pieces were composed the octaves had a centring and clarifying role that allowed other material to circulate around or play against them. They acted as pivots, repetitions, drones, ostinati, pointillist nodes, pedals, melodic features, struts, harmonic turnpikes, breathing spaces, bass lines: musical imperatives. The octaves called the musical shots most of the time. When the music pulled a semitone up or down and away from the octaves (as it did quite often) it was especially telling in the context of the ringing spaces the octaves were creating. I became interested in the subtle dislocation that two pianos could provide. By dislocation I mean a degree of tension between the natural acoustics of the two instruments in the room and the players idiosyncrasies as musicians. The whole point of this work was to examine the nature of my syntax, grammar, and compositional thinking. The title demanded one thing above all: what notes am I going to use between these octaves?? My choice of notes was derived in most instances from the tempo, pitch, and rhythm of the initial octaves at the beginning of each piece alongside the individual word titles that I set out to explore as musical images. The audio was developed from Sibelius software, via MIDI to Logic samples of a Steinway grand piano.

Piano Duo - 2 pianos, 4 hands. Surrender, Between the Octaves was the piece that was composed first in the suite. It exposes a simple call to return to the beginning, to return to a pure act of listening. This note..ah, now that note.. oh. This is how the piece was written - one note at a time. Listening from within a space (its original title) of resonance, of edges and meetings, of disappearances and repetitions that reflect on this gentle body of notes. There is a slow hearing that may, or may not create a tone-journey.Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. Piano Duo - 2 pianos/4 hands. Ignite, Between the Octaves began with the impetus of static ‘pulsation’ (its original title) on repeated octaves. The piece is a fizzing dash of nodal vortices, small, then larger, spinning and tumbling and all the way to the finish line. This piece brings the complete suite of 7 pieces to a dynamic close, with a sense of ignition to new beginnings. The music echoes the opening F octaves of Initiate (movement 1). For Piano Duo - 2 pianos/4hands. Initiate, Between the Octaves, the opening piece in the suite, is a sparky, rhythmic and post-modern hoquet, of some wit and almost perpetual bounciness. A ricocheting of quickly contrasting dynamics with occasional switches to distant moments. Three big plunges into legato emotional flow, release the popping bubbles of the fiery staccato material. A short final chorale settles and grounds the quick cuts, swoops and build ups that have propelled the whole piece. Instrumental Solo,Ukulele - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1349574 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James Saunders. Baroque,Classical,Early Music. Individual part. 85 pages. Saunders Music #934334. Published by Saunders Music (A0.1349574). Transcription of all six of J.S. Bach's cello suites BWV 1007-1012 for ukulele (gCEA tuning) from the urtext. All pitches are maintained from the original but there are some octave transposition, changes to the contour of the line (such as with the shape of arpeggios) or revoicing chords to fit the ukulele's smaller range. The transcriptions avoid a lot of campanella playing to maintain a clearer sense of line, especially in the runs. Open strings are mostly used to facilitate position changes, and as pedals. Some of the chords use higher pitches on the fourth string to complete the harmony where necessary. Where this happens, the melodic line is normally on the first or second string to give it extra weight or emphasis if the chord is rolled. Suite No.4 has been transposed from E flat major to G major and No.6 from D major to G major, in both cases to avoid some of the problems with register, and to enable greater use of open string pedals. The other suites are in their original keys.

Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Thread, Between the Octaves grew out of the call the make a single line weave between the octaves. Line was the original title. Thread, as a word, brings more texture to the title and describes what the line is actually doing, threading around the harmony. A secondary thread is heard after a while, echoing and shading the primary line, with its own treble weave. It was like going back to the beginning of making melody again.Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite.

Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Curve, Between the Octaves points to a fugal past, where lines enter and build in stately flow. It invites lines to intermingle, without assuming they will all arrive somewhere, or at the same time. A certain intensity builds, then scales, both up and down, free themselves from the discussion of the interleaving lines. The chromaticism suggests curving between harmonies, and is nearly always ambivalent. An assertive chordal climax intervenes to shake off the tensions, yet this peels away into further curvatures that twist and twirl, until a final resting point agrees to present itself. Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Ritualise, Between the Octaves finally found its identity with the word ritualise. It began as announce, became pronounce, then declare and went as far a pontificate for a title. At that point I realised I was mocking my own music and needed to take it more seriously. Ritualise brought out a meaning to the music that I hadn’t wanted to admit to. It is quite folk-like, in a primal and entrancing kind of way. I can imagine a communal dance for some ceremonial purpose in this music with both public and private elements.Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. In this case, the usual dances of the European Baroque (such as Allemande or Courante) were generally avoided, and a dance and musical genre of Chile, the Cueca, could be integrated. The title of the last piece (Gigue post-antique) is a wink: an inverted allusion to the concept of Postmodernity - i.e. to that mindset which opposes itself critically to the scale of values of Modernity, particularly against compulsion towards innovation, and which for that refers to past styles (partially in an ironic way). The degree of difficulty of this work has been intentionally kept low.The Petite Suite Antique was originally composed for recorder; however, it can be played with any other melodic instrument, such as, for example, flute, oboe or violin. Transposing instruments (clarinet, trumpet, horn) can play directly from the same score. You can listen the Petite Suite Antique in Spotify ( and all usual streaming plataformsfrom 5 October 2018, in the recoding of Gonzalo Ariel Juan. Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - SKU: A0.810761 Composed by Fetter, David. Contemporary. Score and part. 27 pages. Gordon Cherry #2889619. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.810761). David Fetter's brilliant new work Situation Update - Suite for Tenor Trombone and Piano is written in three contrasting movements totalling almost 11 minutes in length: 1. Swift 2. Longing 3. Exit Music Swift is marked Intense and is very rhythmic and angular. Longing is a beautiful lyrical movement marked Cantabile and Exit Music is marked Lively mixing chromatic, lyrical and syncopated segments, ending in a giant climax. Both the solo and accompaniment parts are written for advanced performers. The work's premier was performed in 2015 by retired Principal Trombonist of the Boston Symphony, Ronald Barron and accompanied at the Piano by composer Eric Ewazen. Here is what Mr. Ewazen has said about Situation Update: I had the pleasure of hearing Ron Barron play David Fetter's exciting and virtuosic new work for Trombone and Piano, Situation Update. David's music allows the Trombonist to sing and soar in 3 contrasting movements filled with vivid colors, beautiful and expressive harmonies, and a wonderful flowing rhythmic energy. The outer movements crackle with energy, showcasing the amazing technique of soloist Ron Barron, as the melodic line shifts and changes with playful abandon, while the middle movement is heartfelt and lyrical, with beautiful melodic lines, supported by resonant, gorgeous harmonies. The work is a real tour de force and rightly deserves to take its place as a significant addition to the Trombone repertoire.

Published by Ronald Beckett (A0.769546). The Octatonic Suite No. 1 for solo piano was written specifically for the 2002 Arcady CD A Beckett Miscellany. It draws upon the Baroque dance suite structure which by its very design provides contrast from one movement to the next. The stylised dances of this suite follow essentially this anticipated arrangement and its seven pieces are indeed all rooted in F. Of the modes of limited transposition favoured by composers since the early 1900s, the octatonic scale, which alternates whole and half steps, is probably the most useful in that it is able to suggest a full range of harmonic and melodic sonorities. This is a fun and not too difficult suite that pianists enjoy very much. This edition is arranged so as to facilitate page turns.

Hopewell Suite is a seven movement suite inspired by the composer's time spent at Hopewell Farm in South Africa. Each movement describes a different aspect of the farm:1) Hopewell Way2) Sentinel Trees3) Hopewell Farmscapes4) Hopewell Endurance5) Hopewell Adventure6) Hopewell Homestead7) Flora and FaunaPerformance of the full suite may stretch to as long as thirty minutes in duration. Recorded duration is over twenty minutes. The skill is what I would consider early college level. The piece features some rhythmic sections that are moderately difficult, but those sections all work together towards melodic and rhythmic cohesion. In that sense, while this is a modern work, it is not hard on the ears. The movements are mostly melody based. PRO: BMI

GigueDance Suite for Two Clarinets was composed in the fall of 2019 and is a Baroque-styled suite in four movements, a prelude, minuet, sarabande, and gigue. As a clarinetist, the advancement of original clarinet compositions is something I find important. Each movement composed was modeled after that of the Bach Cello Suite No. 1. The form of each movement is pretty standard as it would be during the Baroque era. The rhythm is kept fairly simple as rhythmic progression or showcase was not the point. The point of the duet is in the melodic and harmonic development through using modern tonalities and techniques. Another technique used in the suite was featuring both players, creating an illusion that only one person is playing when both are playing.

Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - SKU: A0.917402 Composed by Gregory Fritze. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 96 pages. Musica Nova USA #4895219. Published by Musica Nova USA (A0.917402). Petite Suite for Brass Quintet is a light-hearted piece for brass quintet in four movements with a duration of fourteen minutes. The four movements follow the basic Classical symphonic form - Allegro, Adagio, Scherzo (Presto) and Finale (Presto). The first movement Strombor has a fanfare at the beginning with a melodic 2nd theme in the French Horn. The second movement is based on a slow cantabile theme. The 3rd movement Attack of the Killer Bees includes a bit of theatre. Throughout the movement there is a buzzing of bees, which are killed at the end when all the players stomp on them. The 4th movement Finale has a feeling of cartoon music, ending with a big finish. Throughout the Suite each of the five instrumentalists is featured. The grade of this piece is level 5 (intermediate) for all instruments.Petite Suite for Brass Quintet was composed in 2000 on a commission by the Strombor Brass Quintet of Valencia, Spain. It was recorded by that group on Allegro Records V-3076-2002. It was also recorded by the Hoodlebug Brass Quintet on Albany Records Troy 1175. It can be heard on youtube at: http://youtu.be/RZFf3W_yZLo. Several ensembles around the world have played it, receiving over 100 performances in recent years. Small Ensemble Drum Set,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Vibraphone - Level 5 - SKU: A0.881262 Composed by Gary Powell Nash. Contemporary. Score and parts. 133 pages. Gary Powell Nash #6137361. Published by Gary Powell Nash (A0.881262). Brass Magnolia Suite (1999) for trumpet, horn, bass trombone and percussion was largely inspired by Gary Powell Nash’s residency in Mississippi, the Magnolia State from 1996-2003. Being that Mississippi, particularly the northwest part of the state known to most as the Mississippi Delta, is very rich in musical traditions, Nash chose to use some of these same traditions as the basis and major premise for his composition. For the most part, Brass Magnolia Suite is based on Mississippi Delta blues tunes and bird songs of those indigenous to the region. Such birds include the mockingbird, wood thrush, common crackle and the meadowlark. For Nash’s utilizations of these bird songs, as well as blues tunes, he took rhythms and melodic contours of each and manufactured melodies and motives of his own. While Brass Magnolia Suite is not meant to be programmatic, the five movements, which are arranged in a traditional fast-slow-fast-slow-fast format, all depict either a particular experience for Nash or a natural occurrence in Mississippi. The first movement, Fanfare, is based on the mockingbird’s song. The second movement, Homage to the Armadillos, incorporates the song of the wood thrush. The third movement, Catfishery, is supported by the tune Catfish Blues and the common grackle’s song. The fourth movement, Song of the Meadowlark, is exactly what it suggests and the fifth movement, The Gospel, is based on the gospel blues tune John, the Revelator.

This suite of (mostly) hymn-based pieces takes the listener on a musical journey, from Jesus Christ's processional ride into Jerusalem through the darkest days of his death in Holy Week and ultimate resurrection. Written for the somewhat unconventional combination of cello and organ, this suite also uses unique harmonies and melodic elements from areas of the world where these Biblical stories and events took place. Appropriate for use during Lent or anytime in concert settings, and is crafted for versatility to either be broken up and played in sections, or all at once in its entirety.Lenten Suite - Movements Procession Beneath the Cross of Jesus (Tune: ST. CHRISTOPHER) Go to Dark Gethsemane (Tune: REDHEAD 76) In the Cross of Christ, I Glory (Tune: RATHBUN) When I Survey the Wondrous Cross (Tune: ROCKINGHAM)

Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862516). Contemporary music MUST use elements that are either different in substance or in context from the Old Common Practise: otherwise, the music is not contemporary. Yet, Earth, Air, Fire and Water, these elements have not changed since the dawn of, well, Everything! So, our Suite for Violin and Piano is named after these unchanging aspects of our world, while using musical elements and contexts that are NOT from the past. Asymmetrical or odd-numbered phrases, major 7th, tritones, and half-steps instead of diatonic scales, wide melodic intervals, pointillisms, non-tonal harmony in the accompaniments, etc. This first movement is Adagio, slow and solid. The audio clip, along with the score, will show you more than can be described in words. Playable, listenable, accessible, and yet novel. Contemporary music that retains just enough of an older sound and feeling is the best way to get players and audiences to perform and listen to what it has to offer. Each selection in the suite runs just over 2 mins. They are all posted here as individual titles, and can certainly be played as such. Audio clips of each movement are available through this method. The entire 4-movement suite is advantageously priced. parts and a score for each. MBB.
