This arrangement for men's choir (TTBB) was commissioned by the Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus in dedicated to a devoted member whom they lost far too soon. The ebb and flow of dynamics, constrasts of legato and marcato, a dramatic piano accompaniment, plus some unresolved vocal harmonies, allow for a series of emotions to be painted such as those experienced in the grief cycle. From Canadian band Simple Plan, ‘Gone Too Soon’ was first released in 2011. The inspiration for the song was the tragic loss of so many talented artists, actors and musicians to drug overdoses or suicide. On the Simple Plan website, drummer Chuck Corneau explained: “We thought it was so sad to see so much talent being wasted. Also there were people in our family and some great friends we lost. So the song is a combination of all that. Yes the song is about missing someone who is goneâ€. Singer Pierre Bouvier added: “Hopefully this song can help people that are going through similar situations where they feel like someone in their family or one of their friends has gone too soon.â€.

Published by charliebmusic (A0.865879). ‘Togetherness’ is a Soca Carnival hit from the 2007 Trinidad carnival, and was sung originally by Alison Hinds on her ‘Soca Queen’ album, with music and lyrics by Leroy Brathwaite, who happens to be Rhianna’s uncle.Suitable for Pride, a Holiday celebration or any show about community, the song contains powerful lyrics about unity, community and togetherness, as well as mentions of stopping the fighting and gun violence. The half time reggae in the middle 8 leads to a defiant unison section where the entire ensemble declares ‘They can’t be believe that we love one another’. This leads to a final explosion of joy. Especially infectious, this tune demands audience participation and choir movement of some kind.The song itself is relatively repetitive and builds in energy with every return of the main chorus. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1045085). The tune for Star in the East first appears in print in The Southern Harmony collection, but is well attested as an American Folk Hymn. The lyrics are partially anonymous but most published versions include verses that seem to have been added by the arranger of that version. This Epiphany song has similar themes to We Three Kings but is definitely a refreshing change from that well known tune. This fun arrangement by Mark R Lewis is for Baritone soloist, TTB choir, a woodwind instrument, and bass instrument. Included is sheet music for C, Bb, and Eb instruments and a bass line which can be played by many different bass instruments depending on what the group has available. The instrumentalists can transpose their parts to different octaves for ease of playing if necessary. The Baritone soloist should be a well experienced intermediate singer and the bass line is very active at times, but the choir and woodwind parts should be performable by most intermediate groups.
