Three Chromicons for piano solo

Piano Solo - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Joseph Dillon For…

Piano Solo - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Joseph Dillon Ford. 21st Century, Contemporary Classical, Impressionistic. Score. 22 pages. Published by David Warin Solomons
The pdf file contains the original score (in letter format) followed by the somewhat larger copy with dedication by the composer and fingerings by Valentin Bogolubov who premiered the 3 Chromicons.<br> <br> The sound sample is the live performance.<br> <br> The Three Chromicons were premiered by pianist Valentin Bogolubov at the Société de concerts de St-Bruno, Saint-Bruno, Quebec, Canada, on 27 January 2007. Bogolubov's adventurous, technically demanding program, which also featured the works of Alexander Scriabin and Jean Chatillon, was accompanied by video animation of numerous works of art, four of which were created by the composer (among them, the Chromicon No. 3).<br> <br> Ford explains the significance of these unique scores:<br> <br> "In both my earliest chromicons, which I had begun to create by the 1980s, and in those I continue to make today, color is the element that links what is seen to what is heard. Unlike composer Alexander Scriabin, who may have been a true synaesthete as the result of a rare neurological condition enabling him actually to hear colors, my approach to color music has been by way of analogy. Although the tones in a musical scale and the colors of a prism both result from specific vibratory frequencies, scales can be replicated in various octaves while there is no comparable transposition observable in the case of the spectrum. However, the analogy between pitch and hue is implicit in the term "chromatic scale" (the Greek chrôma signifies "color"), and on that basis it is possible to equate the twelve tones of Western music with the hues on a twelvefold color wheel: red, red-orange, orange, yellow-orange, yellow, yellow-green, green, blue-green, blue, blue-violet, violet, and red-violet."<br> <br> "By placing the pitch names of the chromatic scale in a separate band around the periphery of a such color wheel, much like the numbers on the face of a clock, and by rotating the central color wheel, it is possible for any given pitch to be aligned and associated with any hue. Such an easily constructed device, which I have dubbed the "chromonomicon," is the key necessary to decipher the musical meaning of my chromicons. The chromicon can be thought of as a calligraphic text in which each discrete area of color is a separate letter."<br> <br> "Although there are literally millions of possible colors, all of them can be categorized as one of the twelve hues shown on the chromonomicon. Instead of being written from left to right or from right to left, the color-letters in a chromicon are arranged concentrically. The shapes of the individual letters, usually painted in watercolor and "illuminated" with metallic paints, colored pencils, and other media, are the result of each artist's creative meditation. The personal meaning of the chromiconic text as a whole emerges during and after this meditation, and may be expressed by a conventional title or accompanying commentary."<br> <br> "Now, anyone wishing to realize a chromicon is at liberty to follow any path—straight or curvilinear—from the centermost letter to the periphery, constructing a cantus (melody) by notating the musical pitches associated with each contiguous color-letter encountered along the way. The cantus thereafter serves as the structural basis of a new, freely composed work. The individual pitches in the cantus may be moved to any octave, and may be repeated any number of times before proceeding to the next pitch in the sequence. Customarily, once the final tone of the cantus is reached, the entire melody is heard in reverse (retrograde), resulting in a palindrome. That palindrome is itself subject to varied repetition, so that in formal terms, each realization of a chromicon amounts to a 'mirror' theme with variations."<br> <br> "Chromicon No. 3 travels even further back in collective human memory to the eighteenth century. For all its contemporary melodic and harmonic inflections, the style is pervasively contrapuntal, summoning to mind the polyphonic keyboard textures of Bach and Handel. It eschews the worldly strife and diversions mirrored in the first two chromicons, maintaining a dignified, highly stylized manner throughout, but with its unexpected final cadence on D, there seems to be a fleeting intimation of transcendence."<br> <br> Video of Chromicon III<br> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHMw-vzZlGE

Bass Clarinet,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549648 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #3516889. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549648). Duration: ca 5:20, Score: 8 pages, solo part: 3 pages, piano part: 4 pages. One of Beethoven's finest and most famous works. Program for a recital, church meditation or school program. Bring your best espressivo and plan to rehearse the many subtle dynamic changes.Sonata Pathétique Op. 13 First of all, this is an arrangement of the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique. It seems like Beethoven wrote this piece before becoming troubled by deafness. Published in 1799, it consequently remains one of the most celebrated pieces Beethoven ever wrote. As a result of its popularity, the movement was therefore performed by Karl Haas. Hass recorded it for a popular radio show called: Adventures in Good Music. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna for the rest of his life. In his late 20s, it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently, he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies, therefore, belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony, he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano. www.jamesguthrie.com.

Angels We HaveHeard on High (minimalist)<br> <br> Christmas carolarrangement for piano solo with narration by Stephen R Dalrymple<br> <br> sequenced by thecomposer<br> <br> © 2018, ℗ 2020 Stephen R Dalrymple<br> <br> In 2017 I began researching andwriting a university level music textbook explaining contemporary classicalmusic composition techniques. In 2018 I finished the 300+ page manuscript and usedit to teach two university music course in Haiti that year.<br> <br> It had been many years since I hadtaken the course myself, and needed to add to my knowledge of late 20thCentury and early 21st Century classical music composition techniques.During my research I grew interested in a classical music minimalist styleinfluenced by Terry Riley and Philip Glass. I have tried to use some of theirideas in this composition. There are 10 sections that can be repeated, reordered, and combined so that the performer actually makes a contribution tothe creation of the work.<br> <br> Playing the piano at church behind areading of Luke 2, was my first experiment in this new form of music. When Ireturned home, I began to experiment in writing down the experience andrefining the work according to these minimalist ideas. The composition could beperformed with or without the narration, with a single narrator in a singlelanguage, or with the narration in multiple languages and/or with multiplevoices.<br> <br> Suitable for preludes, offertories, concerts, personal meditation. Includes 2 versions 1) piano score, letter size 2) piano score, small pageformat for performing from 10.1 inch tablet. Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.693014 Composed by Ben Dockery. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz,Standards. Score. 3 pages. Ben Dockery #3381217. Published by Ben Dockery (A0.693014). This intermediate meditation for piano (3 min) is the fifth in a set of twelve. It is, perhaps, the most impressionist piece I've ever written. Its lush and sometimes dissonant harmonies contrast with the sparkles of light that glimmer throughout. A tender, sensitive interpretation is required. The form is a short five-part rondo: ABACA. The A sections alternate in compound meter and are entirely modal. Both the B and C section switch to common time and have chorale style textures. Be sure to prepare dissonances and resolve suspensions with proper voicing, balance, and a sense of rubato. Sustain pedal should be used throughout.Find more of my music at www.bendockery.com. Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.693013 Composed by Ben Dockery. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz,Standards. Score. 1 pages. Ben Dockery #3368163. Published by Ben Dockery (A0.693013). This meditation for piano was written after hearing sad news from a family friend. Mournful regret, poignant memories, and a desire for peace all permeate this simple composition.Throughout, the left hand is required to play chord voicings containing 10th intervals. Smaller hands will need to roll these. It is important to bring out the primary melody in the higher voice of the right hand despite the sometimes thick texture. The slow tempo will be difficult for some students, especially when fermatas, accelerandos, and ritardandos are added. Subdividing eighth-notes will be most helpful.Visit my website www.bendockery.com for more music! There, you can join my email list to get updates and tons of free music. .

Duration: 4:55, Score: 6 pages, Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 2 pages. A very famous aria (Ombra mai fu) from "Xerxes"<br> Suitable for any venue requiring meditative music. Excellent choice for a recital encore.<br> <br> Xerxes<br> Xerxes is, in fact, an opera seria in three acts by Handel. Moreover, Handel conducted the premiere performance in London in 1738. Handel casts the opera in Persia in 470 BC. The part of Xerxes was indeed originally sung by a soprano castrato. Nowadays, the part is generally sung by a mezzo-soprano or conversely a counter-tenor. In the first place, Xerxes sings an opening aria, Ombra mai fu to a plane tree. Handel sets this aria to one of his most truly famous melodies. Although many refer to it traditionally as Handel’s “Largo,” Handel has, on the contrary, clearly marked "Larghetto" in the score.<br> <br> Handel Background<br> George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759) was born in Germany, but eventually became a British citizen. Nonetheless, he was a famous Baroque composer. In fact, he became famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos. Handel studied music and, by and large, worked as a composer in Germany and Italy before moving to London. On the whole, Handel was very familiar with the contemporary music of Italy and Germany.<br> <br> Career in England<br> It is important to realize that Italian opera was all the rage in England at the time. Moreover, Handel was really good at writing them. Therefore, he started not one but three opera companies in England. Alexander's Feast was a huge success in 1736, but Handel nevertheless began composing English choral works. After success with the Messiah in 1742) he certainly never again wrote an Italian opera. Consequently, he died in 1759, a treasured genius. Accordingly, the English government gave him full state honors at his funeral. Hence, he is buried in Westminster Abbey in London.<br> <br> Legacy<br> Music historians agree that Handel was in general one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era. To demonstrate, his works such as the Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks remain consistently popular up to the present time. He especially composed the coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest for the coronation of George II. Nevertheless, it has specifically been performed at every succeeding British coronation since. His oratorio Solomon has by all means also continued to be prevalent. As a matter of fact, the Sinfonia from act 3 was featured the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. Handel was particularly prolific. To enumerate, he wrote over forty operas. Since the late 1960s, we have expressly experienced a revival of baroque music. Similarly, we have especially seen a pique of interest in historically informed musical performance. Since his death in 1779, interest in Handel's music has, all in all, expanded.<br> <br> <br> <br> Register for free lifetime updates and revisions of this product at www.jamesguthrie.com.

Published by Daniel C. M. (A0.810065). This is an easy arrangement for piano written in the key of C major. The accompaniment has been simplified for the left hand and the melody has little changes in some places to be easier to play. Also, the structure of the piece has been simplified so the length is shorter now. The sheet music has suggested fingering and pedal. This arrangement is perfect for early intermediate students. Peace! You can find another version in the original key of D major, published also by Daniel C. M.
