This three-movement work considering the emotions that are evoked by lack of equality (anger and frustration), seeking justice (which can be a hard path), and valuing freedom (honoring our selves and our history). In Russia, a hummed choral a cappella version became known as mourning music, being played annually during the Minute of Silence on Victory Day. In 2021, violinist Fenella Humphreys released an arrangement of Träumerei for violin.Here is my contribution on it scored for a brass quintet, giving every member thereof a great opportunity to act both as soloist and supportive ensemble player, with the purpose of the music in mind. Farewell Blues is a 1922 jazz standard written by Paul Mares, Leon Roppolo and Elmer Schoebel.The song was recorded on August 29, 1922, in Richmond, Indiana and released as Gennett 4966A, Matrix #11179, as by the Friars Society Orchestra under the direction of Husk O'Hara. It was first released by the New Orleans Rhythm Kings under the name the Friars Society Orchestra and soon was covered by several jazz bands. He mentions a woman he knew from an earlier time in his life, who will be waiting for him at the station and with whom he plans to settle down for good. After the entire song is sung, the band plays two parts of the main melody as an instrumental, with the instruments imitating the WHOO WHOO of the train as the song ends.Here's my representation thereof with Sam Harrill's nifty percussion score supporting it.

One of the pieces I presented for my master's thesis was this, '3 Pieces for Solo Piano'. The pieces are intended to stand on their own or be performed together as a suite. In 2005 I was very much interested in pursuing film music as a career, as such each piece presented here explores a decidedly different thematic concept or combination thereof, in my attempt to learn more about harnessing dramatic expression. 'I. Heroic Western' is my attempt to harness the 'Go-West-Young-Man' spirit of Americana Copland with sprinkles of Gershwin. 'II. Sunken Rag' is an homage to Debussy's 'Sunken Cathedral' if only he had some time to spend with Scott Joplin. III. New Tango' is a play on Argentinian rhythms and simple melodic constructs with chromatic rivers running through the texture.

Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.MLM015). 9 x 12 in inches.Hymn and Fuguing Tune No. 4 was written on 25 December 1944 as a Christmas present for his wife Sidney Robertson Cowell, a brilliant ethnomusicologist who had been instrumental in obtaining the composer's parole and eventual pardon. Cowell did not specify the instrumentation of the Hymn and Fuguing Tune No. 4, stating that it could be performed by any three woodwind or string instruments, or a combination thereof .. The only noticeable adaptation in this setting for two bassoons and contrabassoon is transposing the piece down one octave. While some may question the choice of instrumentation, I will point out that Cowell's final Hymn and Fuguing Tune is a duet scored for soprano saxophone and contrabass saxophone, written for his friend Sigurd Rascher and his daughter Karen Rascher. I feel confident that Cowell would enjoy this setting of his piece! ~Bruce Gbur.
