A Guajira is one of the Ida y Vuelta (there and back) musical styles which travelled back from Latin America, in this case Cuba, and intergrated into flamenco.It is counted as a 12-beat rhythmic pattern 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12, represented here as a combination of 6/8 and 3/4 meters.This piece is composed for a classical guitar quartet or ensemble of around grade 4-5 level, and no speicalist flamenco technique is required. I have performed the [piece suiccessfully many times with my own ensemble of around 20 players.

Published by DML (A0.928250). This song is based on a Colombianas a Flamenco style imported, as the name suggests, from South America. There has always been a rich interchange between Spain and South America, not so surprising perhaps. I had written the beginning as a solo piece but when Lynieve heard it she said it gave her a strong image of a little girl playing outside in the sun. So I just let her go with it. The lyrics are mostly hers but I added a line here and there and a lot of the melody sprang naturally from the lyrics. We tried to retain that original image of childhood but with just a hint of the unavoidable growing up. Although the lyrics are in English it forms a group with Torito and Una Pena Quita Pena as it is based on various styles of Flamenco.

Published by DML (A0.928252). This is a complex song using the rhythm of a Flamenco rumba but with a mixture of finger style and strumming, it will need time and patience to do it well. It uses well known coplas from traditional Spanish sources and is naturally about love but with some fairly pointed remarks like the copla that ends ‘a shoe once worn, discarded, I never wear again’. One of the best things about the Flamenco approach to lyrics - you are never tied down to just one version so you can change the song according to the mood you’re in. This was first performed at the opening of the 2007 Croydon Jazz Festival.

MarÃa is a song recorded by Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin for his third studio album, A Medio Vivir (1995). The song was written by Ian Blake, Luis Gómez Escolar, and KC Porter, while the production was handled by Porter, Tom Vickers, and Steve Berkowitz. It was released by Sony Music Mexico as the second single from the album on November 21, 1995. A Spanish language flamenco, dance, and salsa song, it is about an attractive but dangerous woman called MarÃa. The song has received highly positive reviews from music critics, who complimented its production and catchy rhythm. The remix was ranked as one of the Greatest Latin Pop Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone, and was listed among the 11 remixes of classic Latin hits by Billboard. Published by DML (A0.928251). The lyric was created using well known coplas from traditional Spanish sources, as was Una Pena Quita Pena. One of the best things about the Flamenco approach to lyrics - you are never tied down to just one version, you can endlessly re-invent the words, and may be applauded for a particularly good one. The style of this song has a suitably Spanish feel, similar to a rumba, but is based on the famous finger pick technique known as a claw hammer. It changes slightly throughout the song so read the score carefully. One point to note is that the chord changes in bars 43 to 47 and 114 to the end are anticipated by a quaver. I have indicated this using phrasing marks. The original recording, which you can access through YouTube, has solos starting at bar 84 over the A minor section with the voice returning to a strummed rhythm at bar 96, I have faded this section out on the recording until the voice returns. The score maintains finger style with lyrics throughout but you can adapt it wherever you wish.
