Soon May the Wellerman Come, also known as Wellerman is a well-known whaling song. The song frequently refers to the "wellermen", supply ships owned by the British Weller brothers who emigrated to New Zealand. The song was probably written in New Zealand around 1860?1870. The lyrics describe a whaling ship called the Billy o' Tea and its hunt for a right whale. The ship's crew hope for a "wellerman" to arrive and bring them supplies of luxuries, with the chorus stating, soon may the wellerman come, to bring us sugar and tea and rum. This arrangement is playable by SSAB or SSSB Clarinet Quartet. This chantey has become quite popular recently and is suitable for a variety of performance settings and concert programs. Gustav Holst - Folksongs of Hampshire England . In the early 1900's there was great interest in collecting and preserving the folk songs of England, Scotland, and Ireland. Equipped with their newly invented recording devices, people such as Cecil Sharp, Charles Stanford, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Gustav Holst would travel into the country-side to record, or notate songs being sung. They would frequently use these songs in their own compositions. Holst's music in particular is filled with those songs and his two suites for band are especially valued by wind bands around the world. This group of four songs was arranged for voice and piano by Holst and set for clarinet choir by John Gibson. The songs are 1. Young Edwin in the Lowlands Low 2. Bedlam City 3. The Irish Girl 4. Young Reilly. The instrumentation is: Eb Soprano Clarinet, Bb Soprano Clarinet 1 - 3, Alto Clarinet (with an alternate 4th Bb part), Bass Clarinet, Contra Bass or Contralto. Although an alternate for alto is provided, the alto is preferred.

The Christmas Concerto is the popular title of one ofthe 12 Concerto Grossi written by ArcangeloCorelli. This Concerto inG minor bears the inscription, "Made for the Night of Christmas". Sincethe Concerti were first published after Corelli?s death in 1711 we have no wayof knowing when it was first performed. This arrangement is of the Allegro second movement and isscored for Clarinet Quartet, three Bb Clarinets and one Bass Clarinet. Thescore and all parts are combined in one pdf file. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level andabove will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The rhythmsare straightforward, and sound best played fast. The constant movement of thebass part is challenging. All players will enjoy experiencing the rich textureof Corelli?s counterpoint.
