A Walk in Nature is my first composition and follows the story of someone journeying through the woods. As the piece begins, the sun has just risen and awoken the life inside and surrounding the home. Each entrance represents the different lifeforms waking up on the beautiful day. Finally, the birds are chirping, the sky is filled with light, a breeze makes the woods feel alive, and the journey begins. As the “B†section begins the wanderer begins to look inward and think about themselves, life, and begins to feel nostalgic. This continues until suddenly, it begins to rain; and thus begins the C theme. This minor section represents the darkness the wanderer is feeling from their thoughts as well as the rain that has begun to soak their clothes. Finally, the clouds slowly begin to part and, just as the day started, the sun begins to bring light and warmth through the clouds. The journey is almost over, but not before the beauty of nature reveals itself one last time.

The following is a brief description of the camp: Usdan opens up a world for children to joyfully express their creativity and develop their artistic skills.Each summer, we bring professional teachers and artists—actors, directors, playwrights, painters, sculptors, musicians, composers, dancers, poets, and novelists—to teach and collaborate with our campers ages 5 to 18 from Long Island and New York City. Set on 140 acres of natural beauty, Usdan is a welcoming and inclusive place within which campers have the freedom to build new friendships, explore nature, develop personal independence, and have fun, alongside their art-making.“In Springtime is scored for SA and piano. I was given the liberty of choosing the subject matter and writing the words as well as the music. While the piece is not exactly “a walk in the park vocally and harmonically for young people, their performance was magnificent.Several sections of the accompaniment are syncopated, and this can cause a bit of difficulty for the singers, but the rhythm is quite effective, as are the soprano “divisi sections where the harmony becomes three-part. Who doesn’t love springtime? Perform it joyfully!

My arrangement of Walkin' in Jerusalem begins in sonorous Gospel style before breaking into a lively call-and-response song with a recurring refrain. Each soloist can improvise a virtuosic beginning to his or her solo. The middle section is an instrumental break for choir on a blues pattern, with melodies inspired by guitar solos, leading to a key change and a surprise ending. Although a spiritual, the lyrics are not religious in nature, so this is suitable for school ensembles.

Laflamme ©2012 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. Isaiah 9:2* Humility seeks to draw attention to the Advent portion of the holiday season. This programmatic composition seeks to create an aural picture of the atmosphere both physically and spiritually in the eastern world B. C. and then try and connect it to Christmas traditions today. Students will really enjoyed rehearsing and performing this piece because of it’s programmatic nature, use of a plethora of percussion as well as some unusual uses of and combinations of instruments. Piccolo flute in the low register, soprano saxophone, open tom drums and oboe to create some Middle Eastern ambiance. Then, in order to create ‘the land of the shadow of death’ some unusual techniques call for whispers through instruments, french horns ringing their hands in and out of the bell, flutes playing on the head joints only, attaching a tenor saxophone mouthpiece to a euphonium and a baritone saxophone mouthpiece to a sousaphone. Add some trumpets and trombones playing only on their lead pipes and double reeds buzzing on just the reed and a haunting canvas to build the chaos of a world without salvation is created. Then, with the calming of the piano to present an extremely stark and hallow arrangement of the 7th century antiphon Veni Immanuel, ‘O Come, O Come Immanuel’ which crescendos to the coming of the savior at measure 128 precipitates the a highly antiphonal arrangement of ‘Joy to World.’ While this piece has some characteristics of ‘novelty band music’ there are plenty of technical demands that must be met in order to make it a legitimate concert band literature selection. *THE HOLY BIBLE: NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION®. The harmonic language is largely diatonic and relies largely on bouncy rhythmic interplay and dynamics for forward momentum, although there are some forays into dissonance and distant key centres. The mood is wistful but optimistic and fun. It has become a jazz standard.It is also known as Interlude. Gillespie called the tune Interlude and said some genius decided to call it 'Night in Tunisia'. He said the tune was composed at the piano at Kelly's Stables in New York. He gave Frank Paparelli co-writer credit in compensation for some unrelated transcription work, but Paparelli had nothing to do with the song. A Night in Tunisia was one of the signature pieces of Gillespie's bebop big band, and he also played it with his small groups. In January 2004, The Recording Academy added the 1946 Victor recording by Gillespie to the Grammy Hall of Fame.On the album A Night at Birdland Vol. 1, Art Blakey introduced his 1954 cover version with this statement: At this time we'd like to play a tune [that] was written by the famous Dizzy Gillespie. I feel rather close to this tune because I was right there when he composed it in Texas on the bottom of a garbage can. The audience laughs, but Blakey responds, Seriously. The liner notes say, The Texas department of sanitation can take a low bow.The complex ostinato bass line in the A section is notable for avoiding the standard walking bass pattern of straight quarter notes, and the use of oscillating half-step-up/half-step-down chord changes (using the Sub V, a tritone substitute chord for the dominant chord) gives the song a unique, mysterious feeling. The B section is notable for having an unresolved minor II-V, since the chord progression of the B section is taken from the B section of the standard Alone Together, causing the V chord to lead back into the Sub V of the A section.Like many of Gillespie's tunes, it features a short written introduction and a brief interlude that occurs between solo sections - in this case, a twelve-bar sequence leading into a four-bar break for the next soloist.
