Johann Sebastian Bachas arrangements of the a69 Sacred Songsa from the Musical Hymnal by Georg Christian Schemelli (Leipzig, 1736) have long been part of the German language vocal concert repertoire and a mainstay in vocal pedagogy. Originally, only these 69 of the 954 hymns in the collection were published with a single bass line as the accompaniment. Bachas contribution was to specify harmonies to be played over those same bass lines by adding figured bass numbers and symbols beneath each note.A figured bass line can easily be turned into a relatively simple guitar accompaniment or a more elaborate setting, offering a range of possibilities that make working with this music both interesting and rewarding for the guitarist. While other period and modern editions of the a69 Sacred Songsa offer accompaniments for keyboard instruments, this Mel Bay publication features intermediate to advanced transcriptions exclusively for the guitar. Best suited to college-level players or advanced aficionados, this special Mel Bay Publications edition includes the vocal line with German lyrics and the guitar accompaniment transcribed from Bachas figured bass lines. Written in guitar-friendly keys, 29 of the transcriptions employ a capo to achieve the original key designed for high voices. Without the capo, these same arrangements would be suitable to be sung by lower voices. The remaining 40 hymns are in their original guitar-friendly keys and so do not require a capo.This volume contains accompaniment settings of all 69 of the sacred songs and arias for which Bach wrote figured bass annotation. Bach: Air on a G String - ~ Bach composed three noteworthy Orchestral Suites. He wrote his third orchestral suite, BWV 1068 in D, for his Collegium Musicum. The Overture of the suite features a double-dotted rhythm in the French style and employs the entire ensemble: trumpet trio, timpani, oboe duet, and strings. The strings were the typical 2 violin parts, viola part, and continuo of cello and harpsichord. ?Air? - the title of the second movement, is, by contrast, scored only for the strings. It seems like this work was entitled ?Air on a G String? not by Bach, but by a nineteenth-century violinist named August Wilhelmj. He arranged the Air such that the first violin part was performed by a single soloist ? and entirely on the G String.

Sleepers awake, English name for the chorale cantata Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, regarded as one of most mature and popular sacred cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, based on the homonymous hymn by Philipp Nicolai (1599).
Sleepers awake is the fourth movement ("Zion hört die Wächter singen") of BWV 140. Bach later transcribed this movement for organ (BWV 645).

It's an accurate piano transcription of the whole piece which is not too hard to play, and sounds fantastic!

"Air on the G String" is one of the most famous classical compositions.
It was written by J. S. Bach (1685-1750) as the second movement of his orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major (BWV 1068).

While the piece was just titled "Air" in Bach's original composition, the German violinist August Wilhelmj wrote a new arrangement of the piece in the 19th century. In this version, the first violin was transposed so that it only had to use the G string (the lowest string on a violin).
Since his arrangement contributed in a major way to the piece's fame and popularity, it became known as "Air on the G String" or "Air on a G String".

In any way, it is certainly one of the most beautiful pieces from the Baroque era, and sounds wonderful when played on a piano, too!

This is a collection of 2 preludes written by Johann Sebastian Bach, arranged for the 22-string lever harp with range from A below the small C (C3) to A above the treble staff (A2-A5)

It includes:

- The well-known Prelude in C from Johann Sebastian Bach's "Das wohltemperierte Klavier" is arranged especially for the 22-string travel harp. It contains lever changes. This arrangement includes a version with lever notations (diamond note method) and fingering suggestions. Charles Gounod used this prelude to compose his beautiful Ave Maria melody.

- The soothing Prelude in G from Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 1 for Cello is arranged for the 22-string harp. It contains lever changes. These lever changes are indicated by diamond notes.

The popular Latin prayer Ave Maria, originally published as Méditation sur le Premier Prélude de Piano de S. Bach by the French Romantic composer Charles Gounod is arranged here for pedal harp. The piece consists of a melody that he superimposed over an only very slightly changed version of the Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846, from J. S. Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier. Both a version with annotated fingering and pedals and a blank version are included. The piece consists of 3 pages.
