Full Orchestra - SKU: A0.1008372 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Arkady Leytush. 20th Century. Score and parts. 24 pages. Arkady Leytush #4849769. Published by Arkady Leytush (A0.1008372). Estampes (Engravings) is the title of the triptych of three pieces which Debussy put together in 1903. The first complete performance was given on 9 January 1904 in the Salle Erard, Paris, by the young Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes, who was already emerging as the prime interpreter of the new French music of Debussy and Ravel. The first two pieces were completed in 1903, but the third derives from an earlier group of pieces from 1894, collectively titled Images, which remained unpublished until 60 years after Debussy’s death, when they were printed as Images (oubliées). Estampes marks an expansion of Debussy’s keyboard style: he was apparently spurred to fuse neo-Lisztian technique with a sensitive, impressionistic pictorial impulse under the impact of discovering Ravel’s Jeux d’eau, published in 1902. The opening movement, ‘Pagodes’, is Debussy’s first pianistic evocation of the Orient and is essentially a fixed contemplation of its object, as in a Chinese print. This static impression is partly caused by Debussy’s use of long pedal-points, partly by his almost constant preoccupation with pentatonic melodies which subvert the sense of harmonic movement. He uses such pentatonic fragments in many different ways: in delicate arabesques, in two-part counterpoint, in canon, harmonized in fourths and fifths and as an underpinning for pattering, gamelan-like ostinato writing. Altogether the piece reflects the decisive impression made on him by hearing Javanese and Cambodian musicians at the 1889 Paris Exposition, which he had striven for years to incorporate effectively in music. In its final bars the music begins to dissolve into elaborate filigree. Just as ‘Pagodes’ was his first Oriental piece, so ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ was the first of Debussy’s evocations of Spain-that preternatural embodiment of an ‘imaginary Andalusia’ which would inspire Manuel de Falla, the native Spaniard, to go back to his country and create a true modern Spanish music based on Debussyan principles. Debussy’s personal acquaintance with Spain was virtually non-existent (he had spent a day just over the border at San Sebastian) and it is possible that one model for the piece was Ravel’s Habanera. Yet he wrote of this piece (to his friend Pierre Louÿs, to whom it was dedicated), ‘if this isn’t the music they play in Granada, so much the worse for Granada!’-and there is no debate about the absolute authenticity of Debussy’s use of Spanish idioms here. Falla himself pronounced it ‘characteristically Spanish in every detail’. ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ is founded on an ostinato that echoes the rhythm of the habanera and is present almost throughout. Beginning and ending in almost complete silence, this dark nocturne of warm summer nights builds powerfully to its climaxes. The melodic material ranges from a doleful Moorish chant with a distinctly oriental character to a stamping, vivacious dance-measure, taking in brief suggestions of guitar strumming and perfumed Impressionist haze. There is even a hint of castanets near the end. The piece fades out in a coda that seems to distil all the melancholy of the Moorish theme and a last few distant chords of the guitar. ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ is based on the children’s song ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’ (We shan’t go to the woods): its original 1894 form was in fact entitled Quelques aspects de ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’. The two versions are really two distinct treatments of the same set of ideas, but in ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ Estampes the earlier piece has been entirely rethought. The whole conception is more impressionistic, and subtilized. The teeming semiquaver motion is more all-pervasive, the tunes (for Debussy has added a second children’s song for treatment, ‘Do, do, l’enfant do’) more elusive and tinged sometimes with melancholy or nostalgia. Elijah (Part 3) God’s Voice♫ Tone Poem for Violin and Piano by Stephen R Dalrymple♫ transcribed for solo flute, clarinet, trumpet, euphonium/trombone, & cello ♫ music © 2015 Stephen R Dalrymple♫ recording ℗  2023 Stephen R Dalrymple♫ sequenced by the composer ♫ presentation © 2023 Stephen R Dalrymple♫ After the victory of Yahweh over Ba’al at Mount Carmel, Elijah and the people executed the 450 prophets of Ba’al. For the first time in 3 years, Elijah prays for rain. In the following rainstorm, Elijah outruns Ahab’s chariot returning to Samaria. But the next morning it seems as if nothing has happened. Jezebel still has her 400 prophets. She sends a message to Elijah that he will be killed.♫ Elijah is discouraged and defeated. Did Mt Carmel really mean nothing? He runs for the wilderness, complaining to God. He is so disheartened that he asks God to take his life. He makes a pilgrimage to Mt Horeb where Moses received the Law, fasting for 40 days, still complaining. He yearns for God to answer him. As at Mt Carmel, God had demonstrated His power at Sinai with thunderstorm and lightning. Elijah is evidently expecting large dramatic gestures for God to reveal Himself. But now God will teach Elijah that He also acts in ordinary, quiet ways, as will his continued ministry♫ 8 Themes were used to create this movement: 1. Ahab (based on Movement 2, theme 3) 2. Carmel is the ultimate contest between Ba’al and Yahweh. From morning until nearly sunset the 450 prophets of Ba’al did everything humanly possible to get Baal to show himself as the god of thunderstorms and fertility as the people of Israel watched. They even cut themselves to add human blood to the animal sacrifice. At twilight, Elijah rebuilt the altar of God, prepared the sacrifice and prayed. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.926661 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 15 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588399. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926661). In the first chapter of Paul’s letter to the Colossians, we discover the next known Hymn to Christ right after his introductory passages, beginning at the 15th verse. Paul opens this letter with a blessing, then immediately flows to one of the 1st century hymns, which I have called, The Icon of the Invisible God. The lyrics of this hymn are declarative, bold and illuminating as to whom the Christ figure is-the icon, the very image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. The text makes it abundantly clear that Jesus is the authority; that He was there before all things, that He created all things, and that through Him all things hold together. This anthem is composed for SATB choir with Pipe Organ accompaniment. The meter is set to 6/8 time, with a rhythm tempo of Totally Alive; which is one actual definition of the word Holy. The anthem starts at a good clip (♪=100). The key is G Major, with an incidental and occasional flatted 5th (Dâ™) as a surprise-landing befitting to the text presented, as if to say, This is so amazing, how can it be? The flatted 5th gives the piece it's own identity and causes the listener to stand up and take notice whenever it occurs. When the hymn's lyrics glide into the all-important resolution, having made peace through the blood of the cross, the song retards and lands on a surprising musical cadence, the sixth chord (E Major). In this piece, the pipe organ is boldly featured as it supports and under girds the musical line, occasionally trumpeting its own victorious motifs and adding some contrapuntal elements, such as this duplet motif, in the pedal line. The final lyrics about Christ having reconciled everything to Himself, whether things on the earth or in the heavens, finish the piece with a great, ‘High-Church’ choral ending.

Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818222). A Mighty Fortress is Our God ♫ piano solo arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ Martin Luther wrote Ein Feste Burg sometime between 1527 and 1529. (Luther published the Ninety-five Theses in 1517 and was excommunicated in 1521.) Ein Feste Burg was translated into English by Miles Coverdale in 1539 with the title, Oure God is a defence and towre. The English text most familiar to me was translated by Francis Hedge in 1853. ♫ Luther believed in the power of music. In 1558 in the Forward to Georg Rhau's Symphoniae he wrote “I truly desire that all Christians would love and regard as worthy the lovely gift of music, which is a precious, worthy, and costly treasure given to mankind by God. … next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. It controls our thoughts, minds, hearts, and spirits.... Our dear fathers and prophets did not desire without reason that music be always used in the churches. Hence, we have so many songs and psalms. This precious gift has been given to man alone that he might thereby remind himself that God has created man for the express purpose of praising and extolling God.†♫ In his lifetime, Luther made 3 major contributions to the Church: the doctrine of salvation by faith alone, the belief that Scripture should be translated into the people's language (producing a translation of the Bible into German), and the birth of congregational singing. In Roman Catholic churches of his day, only the cantor and a chorus sang the mass in Latin. He was determined to restore congregational singing in German to the church. ♫ In the slides, I have featured the Citadelle Laferrière, a fortress in Northern Haiti, commissioned in 1805 by Henri Christophe and completed in 1820, following Haiti’s independence from France in 1804. ♫ music © 2010 (copyright registered in 'Rejoice Ye Pure In Heart’ collection) ♫ recording ℗ 2020 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2022 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ performed by the arranger ♫ This .pdf file includes 2 files: 1) Letter size piano score 2) Small page piano score for performing from a 10 inch tablet ♫ (Tell your computer which pages you want to print. In its final bars the music begins to dissolve into elaborate filigree.Just as ‘Pagodes’ was his first Oriental piece, so ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ was the first of Debussy’s evocations of Spain-that preternatural embodiment of an ‘imaginary Andalusia’ which would inspire Manuel de Falla, the native Spaniard, to go back to his country and create a true modern Spanish music based on Debussyan principles. The ending of the piece is entirely new. What it loses, perha.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.533578 Composed by Carson Cooman. Christian,Contemporary,Spiritual. Score and parts. 189 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3025409. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533578). The Acts of the Apostles (2009), an oratorio for baritone, chorus, congregation/audience, and chamber orchestra (piano, organ, strings-suggested minimum of 3.3.3.2.1),was commissioned by The Memorial Church at Harvard University. It is dedicated to Edward Elwyn Jones and theHarvard University Choir. The biblical books of Luke and Acts form a pair of documents from a single author and with a single audience (thelikely-metaphorical “Theophilusâ€), yet they are unusual for being composed in such contrasting genres. Luke’sgospel, using Mark as a primary source throughout, features a comparable literary style to that of the otherevangelists. Acts, by contrast, is a historical monograph that charts the birth of the Church with dramatic storiesabout—and speeches from—the apostles, painting a vivid, if not necessarily chronological, picture of their victoriesand struggles. As such, it is a book that provides excellent source material for a dramatic choral libretto of this scale.Although much of Acts is focused on the ministry of Saul/Paul, this oratorio draws most of its material from thefirst third of the book, prior to and including the conversion of Saul. In the Prologue, Christ’s ascension is narratedand—following an orchestral Sinfonia—the chorus sings words of Jesus from the Sermon on the Plain in Luke’sgospel that foreshadow many of the trials the apostles go on to face. The astounding account of Pentecost follows:here, words from the book of Ruth, customarily read on the feast of Shavuot (Pentecost), are included, telling thestory of a Moabite woman who converted to the Israelite faith—a parallel to the expansion of the Christian messageto all nations by the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Prayer for Boldness, quoting Psalm 2, asks God for protection fromthe threats of persecution that the apostles will now face.Stephen, regarded as the proto-martyr of the Christian Church, offers one of the most developed speeches in Acts, only a small portion of which is presented here. Full of scriptural references, including the quotation from Isaiah“Heaven is my throne…â€, the end of the narrative is remarkable for two reasons: firstly, Stephen’s final wordsmirror those of Christ on the cross in Luke’s gospel—where Jesus forgives his executioners and prays “Father, intoyour hands I commend my spirit†(Luke 23:46); secondly, Saul is specifically mentioned as one who approved ofStephen’s stoning, indicative of the redemptive possibilities of the Christian message. The account of the baptism of the Ethiopian eunuch here in the oratorio ends with the First Song of Isaiah—whilenot quoted in Acts, it seems a fitting conclusion to the scene as Philip and the eunuch were reading Isaiah together, and the canticle has often been associated by Christians with the rite of baptism. Similarly, the story of Saul’sConversion is followed here by a Christological poem found in Paul’s letter to the Philippians, though it is likely aquotation from an earlier source. It is often regarded as the earliest extant Christian hymn. The Acts of the Apostles concludes with Luke’s realistic assessment that in spite of Paul’s energetic evangelism manyremained unconvinced by the Christian message. At the heart of both Luke’s gospel and Acts is the tension betweenthe uniquely important role of the Jewish traditions that Jesus himself practiced and the expansion of the gospel togentiles, of whom Luke himself is one. It is appropriate, therefore, to follow Paul’s message of salvation to thegentiles with the Magnificat: a canticle that emphasizes the promises of God to the people of Israel throughouthistory.Three traditional hymn texts are found in the oratorio, each set congregationally to a pre-existing tune. The first,“Spirit of mercy, truth, and love†is an eighteenth century poem that e.

The verses of this Anglican priest who was a contemporary of John Donne describe beautifully a dialog between 'Love’ (the Divine) and the human being. The score attempts to illustrate the dramatic progression of this spiritual dialogue in which the eternal ´Love´ gives himself up to welcome the human being with merciful insistence as a privileged guest at a mystical meal. To make this dialogue clear while the choir takes the voice of the human nature -full of shame and guilt- while the Trebles assume the voice of the Divine Love -full of mercy and compassion-. Neither the choosing of trebles nor the number 3 is casual: Childhood evokes naturally ideas of love and purity which are attributes of God himself, thus trebles seemed to me an appropriate choice to represent the voice of “Love†and the fact that there are three, is an intended reference to the Christian doctrine of the Trinity.

Sharon Wilson #3519273. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.565178). This arrangement of the traditional spiritual When the Saints Go Marching In is presented here as a mixed level duet for two pianos, four hands. The PIANO 1 is the easier part (early-intermediate) and the PIANO 2 is slightly more challenging, though still only at the intermediate level. Both PIANO parts carry the melody at times beginning with PIANO 1 for the verse. Quick-paced and bright, this dual piano duet is an ideal selection for a church setting. The purchase price includes a 5-page score with combined PIANO 1 and PIANO 2 parts on each page (the grand staff) plus an alternate format with the PIANO 1 and PIANO 2 parts on separate pages (3 pages each). Duration is just under 1-1/2 minutes. This arrangement is one of the 5 spirituals in the collection Five Joyful Tunes for Two Pianos. This song has numerous verses and varying lyrics, most of which reference the joy of marching into heaven at Jesus' second coming. Bible verses from which the lyrics were gleaned include the following:Â . . .Yahweh's ransomed ones will return, and come with singing to Zion; and everlasting joy will be on their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing will flee away. Isaiah 35:10 WEBFor the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with God's trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first, then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 WEBBlessed are those who do his commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city. Revelation 22:14 WEBLyrics for my favorite 3 verses:O when the saints go marching in,O when the saints go marching in,O Lord I want to be in that number,When the saints go marching in.O when the trumpet sounds its call,O when the trumpet sounds its call,O Lord I want to be in that number,When the trumpet sounds its call.O when they crown him Lord of all,O when they crown him Lord of all,O Lord I want to be in that numberWhen they crown him Lord of all.

Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533282). Whitman only published one book – Leaves of Grass – but it was always a work in progress. He added poems and revised others for each succeeding edition. Thus, the first edition (1819) was a small book with only 12 poems and the last, often refered to as the Deathbed Edition (1892), contained over 400. Some of these he wrote in “clusters†of related poems. Such is the case with the Calamus cluster. The title was chosen to alert the reader that these were poems about what he called “the love of comrades,†“manly love†or with the code word, “adhesiveness.†The concept of homosexuality, as we know it today, was very different in Whitman’s time, but violently socially taboo. Acorus calamus is a reed-like species of marsh grass. In Poetry and Prose, Whitman wrote that it s a … very large and aromatic grass, or root, spears three feet high—often called 'sweet flag'—grows all over the Northern and Middle States.†The phallic plant has always been a symbol of love and associated with the Greek myth of Kalamos, son of the river god who loved the youth Karpos. When Karpos died in a swimming accident, Kalamos transformed himself into a reed so he could always be near the spot where his beloved died, and the rustling of the reeds in the winds sounds like moans of mourning. The Calamus cluster, 39 poems in all, recount the story of a manly love found and lost from the perspective of some time later. They are bittersweet memories. I chose four poems for my own cluster. They represent the four stages of such a relationship: initial attraction, first coy interactions, full-blossomed love, and the bitterness of it’s ending. It is possible that these events actually happened or that they all occurred in the poets mind without ever revealing his thoughts to the intended. Some musical devices, such as the rustling of the leaves in the third song and the constant use of seconds as two people who are close but not yet together in the second one, are obvious. But, other than some indications of tempo, I hesitate to give out remarks about how to perform the songs, or even metronome markings, that might give the singer a preconceived notion. This situation has happened to everyone. So, I say to the singer: revive the memories of a similar event in your life: a particularly heartbreaking one is best. Bring the telling of that memory to the vivid present, and tell us that story as if it ending some time ago but the hurt remains strong, If, by some chance, the singer has not had this experience, he should wait to sing this cycle until he has. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533384). Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1040102). One of the Masterpieces of Chinese Music of 20th Century The magnificent cave art at Dunhuang, in Western China sets the stage for the ballet, “Dream of Dunhuangâ€. In the middle of the vast wastes of Western China, lies the oasis of Dunhuang, situated in today‘s Gansu Province. Since the Western Han Dynasty(202BC-8AC), Dunhuang was an important trading and cultural center on the famous “Silk Road’, the ribbon of communication which fostered the historic ties between East and West. In the East was China, source of treasured trading articles such as silk; in the West, the â€road“ branched to Venice, and north to what is today‘s Russia. The mural led caves at Dunhuang, which were begun the Northern Wei dynasty(336AD), and developed over one thousand years into the Qing Dynasty, re presents one of the world‘s richest cultural treasures. Drawing on bothn Western(Indian and Persian) as well as Chinese tradition, the caves, of which 492 remain intact, were decorated as a mines of religious devotion, with the initiation of Buddhism into China. The subjects of the murals, such as devise, demons, apsaras and bodhisattvas, represent the entire pantheon of Buddhist mythology, yet are also significant in their representation of muti-racial and muti-cultural influences, standing as an important testament to the age old exchange between East and West. A fabricated fantasia, the story of the ballet was inspirited by the famous artist, maestro Chang Shu-hong, who dedicated his whole life to Dunhuang. One of the Huang An-lun‘s major compositions with the play written by Xu Qing-dong, the score of “Dream of Dunhuang†was completed in mid-1979. The ballet has been dedicated to the composer‘s closest friends, Canadian writers John Fraser and Elizabeth MacCallun. Up to the date this CD being released, the ballet has never got a chance to performed in mainland China. Nevertheless, its music has been wildly performed and warmly received around the world. The Singapore premiere of its suite No.1 was performed by the SSO, conducted by Maestro Lim Yao. It has been also chosen as one of the “Master Piece of Chinese Music in 20th Century†in 1993. The world premiere of the complete ballet was performed successfully by the Russian State Ballet of Moscow, directed by its artist director, Vyatcheslav Godeyev, in 1994. Choreographed by Chen Min, it was took place in Taiwan with the Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro David C.H.Chen. In 2002, ROI of Hong Kong has released the CD of the whole ballet, performed by the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra of Moscow. This is also the audio file attached. Before this recording conducted by the composer himself, the entire score was also performed by the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra of Moscow in1995. The YouTube video was the World Premiere in Taiwan by the Russia National Ballet with the Taiwan symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Chen in 1994. The ballet, “ Dream of Dunhuang†depicts two young artists seeking the ultimate experience in love and expression. This two lovers arrived at desert and with the guidance of the celestial maiden, they discover the miracles of Dunhuang. It‘s divided into three acts: Act I: Desert, Act II: Cave, and Act III: Mogao cave.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.953621 Composed by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP). Celtic,Christian,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 19 pages. Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP) #4807817. Published by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP) (A0.953621). One of the most powerful passages in scripture set to music! Good length for an anthem, interesting and idiomatic use of flute and harp, nice mix of beautiful melodic passages and crunchy bits!A Setting of Philippians 2:5-11 from New Revised Standard VersionFor SATB chorus, flute, and clà rsach (Scottish lever harp) or harp or pianoDuration approximately 5:00 The Letter of Paul to the Philippians 2:5-11 (NRSV)*Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. *New Revised Standard Version Bible, copyright © 1989 National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. Used by permission. All rights reserved.Composed by Adrienne Inglis in 2014 and premiered in 2014 in Austin, Texas, by the Westminster Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir, In Heaven and on Earth for SATB chorus, flute, and clà rsach, draws inspiration from the tune Love is the Cause of my Mourning from The Caledonian Pocket Companion Book 1, p. 27. The piece opens with the tune altered to G mixolydian mode. As the word exploited appears, a sinister-sounding E flat enters the harmony. Open octaves between soprano and bass show the emptying, followed by a shift to E phrygian mode with the word slave. Several dissonances emerge as the narrative gets darker. The flute and clà rsach represent chaos or hell with an aleatoric interlude of extended techniques involving tongue rams, flutter tonguing, multiphonics, spoken syllables, and lever glissandi. The harp then joyfully proclaims the new tonality of G major in a fanfare to introduce the text of praise and exaltation. The original source tune returns harmonically restored to G major.
