Truth be told, I used to direct a choir I founded (called the Orange Korale) and we were doing the Star-Spangled Banner for various MLB teams and knew eventually we'd need to sing the Canadian Anthem and finally had that chance for the Toronto team while playing here in the states and they loved it, and I think you will too.Wanting to keep it simple, I did not incorporate any French verse(s) so I hope you'll simply enjoy this simple but beautiful piece. Although it states written for SAATB, there is one place where the alto splits but only for a few notes. It is an easy arrangement but one that should be pleasing to all who hear it. This is a very easy chart to perform. Just tell them it was arranged by someone in one of the 'southern' provinces. I won't tell if you don't. :-).

This book has posed some issues as it is such complex music it is almost impossible to cut it down to 5 parts while maintaining its integrity. As a result, some songs will be in 6 or more parts. Vorrei baciarti has fairly simple harmonies, so I was able to keep it to 5 parts. Vorrei baciarti is a duet for two contraltos, taken by parts 2 and 3 in this setting. The title translate as I want to kiss you, so typifies the kind of love songs that Monteverdi was writing. The poet is singing these words to his lover Phyllis, so we can probably assume that he is Amyntas. In the poem he is deciding where to plant his first kiss. The seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.) Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.

Published by Ricardo Matosinhos (A0.899162). This is a well known piece by Bobby McFerrin. Here presented on a music arrangement for unconventional music instruments. The arrangement allows flexibility, so this piece can be performed using tuned bottles (25cl, 33cl and 75cl), lip whistle, finger snaps, complemented with xylophones and optionally with voices to sing the lyrics too. This arrangement was made during the 2020 quarantine, when the world was shutdown due to a world virus pandemic. Some of the music students didn’t have their music instruments at home, so this arrangement came up to fill that gap and it is perfect to keep doing music with the available option of instruments.On each rehearsal letter, you can play optional improvisations, while keeping the voices 5-8. These improvisations can be easily done using the C major pentatonic scale or the note ranges presented on the right, that even include Eâ™ and Bâ™. If played using lip whistle, bendings will be possible too. This arrangement presents 8 voices and an alternative solution for voice 8, that makes it easier to be performed as it is the place where bottles are divided between the players. There is also an optional bass line to complement voice eight one octave bellow. In order to keep it simple, neither dynamics or articulations were included and the notes were represented always in the middle octave in G clef. The correct pitch ranges are presented in the performance notes.The amount of water will change the pitch differently depending if you are blowing or doing percussion on a bottle. When blowing, the more water you use, the higher the pitch will be, but while doing percussions more water means lower pitch. A good option, in order to save time during rehearsals, is to fill the bottles with water, marking the level with a pen, and then filling the bottle with the desired amount of hot wax instead of water. This way, when the wax cools down you can have a tuned bottle without requiring to tune it again every single rehearsal. Please note that the bottles should be made of glass and that different aspects change the performance. For percussion, straight bottles are better to tune as the curves in the bottles tend to produce unstable pitches. The extreme notes of the range might not be available in every single bottle, so you might need to try some alternatives. For example the high A is available in some beer bottles, while the low G is available in larger 75cl bottles of champaign. I guess, because the first one (Can’t Buy Me Love) went so well, I had to keep it going (shameless plug alert: CBML is available from both sheetmusicdirect.com and sheetmusicplus.com.) And I Love Her is a great tune, and I tried to find some creative ways to expand on that. It features your most lyrical flugel player, and you’ll need woodwind doubles: 2 flutes, 2 clarinets, and bass clarinet. Ensemble: This is pretty straightforward: even 8th, bossa-ish vibe. Trumpets 1, 3, and 4 are on flugels full-time, except for the harmon trumpet bit in mm. 70-75. I feel the 5/4 bars as 2+3, and would conduct accordingly. Overall, think mellow, understated, warm/fuzzy on this. Rhythm Section: I really hear nylon string guitar on this, so please ask your guitarist to bring the extra axe. Piano, guitar, and bass: If there’s a notated paty without chord symbols, please play as written. If it’s chord symbols only, play/comp tastefully, as always. If there are both, you can do either. If the written part supports the ensemble, I’d suggest going that route. I LOVE having guitar and vibes in the rhythm section, but in general I’m not a big fan of having them play off of the same part. So, please observe the “play only if no guitar (or vibes etc.) indications. Drums, I’ve indicated some basic grooves (note the feel change in the bridge) but I trust you. Just keep things tasty and understated. Solo Section: Flugel solo…after the first read-through, you’ll know when it’s just you on the melody, and when your part is doubled. Feel free to play more expressively on the former. There are some short snippets of changes mixed in with the melodic statements; think of these more like fills than the official “solo section” which is mm. 50-80, the AAB of the form. Don’t swing for the fences in spots like mm. 44-48; instead, float on top of the ensemble sound. And, keep things simple from n. 91 out. As of this writing, I don’t have a recording of this, other than the MIDI demo. If you end up with a nice recording and would be OK sharing that with me, please reach out!

Arpeggio Flo is a gentle classical piano piece for pianists at the Grade 2 standard, featuring moving broken chords in both the right and left hands.This piano sheet music is in 6/8 time and should have a fairly slow 2-in-a-bar feel (two groups of three quavers in each bar). Have a listen to the performance track whilst looking at the sheet music and that should make sense.It can also be useful to listen to which hand has the melody line - for example, in bar 5 the left hand takes over, so keep the right hand accompaniment at a lower volume than the left hand at this point.You'll also spot a few slightly weird 'small notes' (for example in bar 4 and bar 9). These are called appoggiaturas and are musical ornaments that embellish the melody. The appoggiaturas are played quickly just before the note they belong to. It's probably a good idea to leave them out when you are first learning the piece - keep things simple to start with!Also watch out for the 'poco rit' markings - where the tempo just reduces slightly, and then returns at the 'a tempo' markings. Pathetique Sonata (slow mvt) by Beethoven- Simplified versionThis version is with the pianist who doesn't feel quite ready for the full version and would love to play this gorgeous movement. I have arranged it in several ways to make it simpler without changing too much.It has been put into 4/4 instead of 2/4 time to be more user friendly. Also there is nothing greater than an octave in either hand. Inside parts (where appropriate) have been divided between the hands so there are no uncomfortable stretches. All ornaments have been written out in full for the purpose of the arrangement, and the big chords in the middle section have been minimised but keep the power required. The audio is my own recording of the piece.I have listed it as top end Intermediate, (grade 5-6) could manage it.The whole score is on the youtube link to assess suitability- set at intermediate level. It is 4 mins 30 in length.

Early level piano solo, with optional mp3 accompaniment and piano duet. While it is not an actual - known - song, it has the elements of a children’s song:  - simple rhythms - half notes, and quarter notes and rests make the counting easy;  - a melody that moves in steps and skips;  - predictable four-measure phrases. Steps and skips make the reading easy, with fingering provided at the beginning of each line, and any time a hand moves. Most hand movement is either step-wise, or from contracting the hand - moving 3 next to 1. The two main challenges here are the unexpected harmony in m. 5 and similar places (the only sharp in the entire song), and the need to pay particular attention to the articulation - legato, staccato, two-note slurs, to keep it from sounding mechanical.

The melody range covers 10 notes, so I use set 5 finger hand positions so you never have to move you hands. Fingering is marked for each hand. I have kept it on one treble staff to show the continuity of melody. Therefore I use stems up and stems down to show the RH versus LH. I have made a few subtle rhythm and note changes to make it more in the style of a Jobim bossa nova. This arrangement is solo melody but sounds complete with its catchy tune and interesting rhythm. The notes, key, and fingering are all Easy; the rhythm includes syncopation and triplets.1 page1:10 minutes

In the fall of 2013 my friend and colleague, Paulius Grigonis who is the organist at St Joseph church here in Vilnius was preparing to play a recital at Vilnius Cathedral around Christmas time. He approached me asking for advice about the pieces he could be playing.I offered him to compose a set of 6 variations on the famous Christmas tune Adeste fideles and he agreed too much hesitation (too bad).I started working on the composition but got stuck at the end of the 5th variation. I used major and minor chords only. My goal was to create something colorful and modern and yet understandable to the listener.Because of these simple chords the harmonies are very clear and transparent. What makes it sound modern though is that I avoid traditional chordal progressions of the perfect fourth and perfect fifth. This would imply tonic-dominant, dominant-tonic, tonic-subdominant, subdominant-tonic relationship.But I didn't want this. I wanted to surprise my audience and my friend Paulius. So I chose all kinds of progressions - minor and major seconds, minor and major thirds, even a tritone to keep it fresh.However, the result was too difficult to play for Paulius on a short notice and I got side-tracked with other projects. Although the idea of completing the variations never left me.So last weekend I sat down and added the last variation with a CODA.I hope you'll enjoy this piece which is dedicated to Paulius.8 pages, PDF score.
