The organ sonatas, BWV 525–530 by Johann Sebastian Bach are a collection of six sonatas in trio sonata form. Each of the sonatas has three movements, with three independent parts in the two manuals and obbligato pedal. The collection was put together in Leipzig in the late 1720s and contained reworkings of prior compositions by Bach from earlier cantatas, organ works and chamber music as well as some newly composed movements. The sixth sonata, BWV 530, is the only one for which all three movements were specially composed for the collection. When played on an organ, the second manual part is often played an octave lower on the keyboard with appropriate registration. Commentators have suggested that the collection might partly have been intended for private study to perfect organ technique, some pointing out that its compass allows it to be played on a pedal clavichord. The collection of sonatas is generally regarded as one of Bach's masterpieces for organ. The sonatas are also considered to be amongst his most difficult compositions for the instrument.Arranged for String Trio. Keys of E minor (1st and 3rd moviments) and B minor (2nd moviment). The Six Trio Sonatas, BWV 525-530 were composed about 1727 during Bach’s period in Leipzig. They were not composed for organ, but (according to Forkel, Bach’s first biographer whose information came from Bach’s son Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach) for the pedal harpsichord as means of improiving the pedal technique of his son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. This instrument, which requires a great deal of precision in performance, contains a normal harpsichord with two manuals attached to a pedal board which activates another harpsichord which is lower to the ground. Many of the movements in these Italian sonatas were used in other settings, in Bach’s Cantatas and in other instrumental works.Bach always tuned his own keyboards and confided his tuning system to his student Johann Kimberger (1721-1788) who used this information to devise several tuning schemes to create a well-tempered system according to Bach’s ideas. The main principal that Bach gave Kimberger was that all thirds should be tuned slightly sharp (...alle grossen Terzen scharf). The saxophone is an ideal instrument to experiment with this sort of tuning, given the possibilities for adjustment in the embouchure. This is the fifth of six trio sonatas opus 5 first published in 1736. Although a clarinet would not have been available at the time of composition, the piece has been edited to preserve the Baroque style. Locatelli wrote the sonatas for violins or flutes with continuo and would have expected them to be played by what instruments were available. All edits are shown in parentheses ( ) or dashed lines. The clarinet part is in A. The three movements, Largo - Andante and Allegros in, respectively common and triple time provide equal independent parts for players of intermediate standard and above. The balance of the ensemble requires careful attention and players may wish to take turns to improvise short cadenzas at the pauses (fermatas).

This sonata is the fifth of a set of six trio sonatas for two flutes or violins and basso continuo. This arrangement for flute, oboe and clarinet has been lightly edited to leave performers free to interpret the late Baroque style as they prefer. All edits are shown either in Parentheses ( ) or dashed lines. Obvious errors have been corrected without comment.There are three movements, Allegro, Andante & Minuet. Players of intermediate standard and above should enjoy the lively outer movements and the serene Andante.Carlo Tessarini was a violinist born near Rimini. He led a peripatetic life holding important posts in Venice, Urbino, but never staying anywhere for more than six years. He wrote instrumental music, mainly for strings and does not seem to have written any vocal music. Much of his music was published both with and without his permission during his long lifetime. He died in Amsterdam aged 76.
