Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1255098 Composed by Ross Fiddes. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 25 pages. Ross Fiddes #848692. Published by Ross Fiddes (A0.1255098). It was in the aftermath of the 2020 summer bushfires in Australia that soprano Ayse Goknur Shanala rang me from Cyprus to suggest I compose a work about climate change, a subject of concern for me.  My research for lyrics did not elicit anything I considered suitable, so I turned to Derek Dowding, a local poet, singer, actor, raconteur, and a person vitally interested in the future of humanity and of the planet.Derek and I had worked together before – he brilliantly performed the role of Abelard in the workshopping and concert performances of my hybrid opera “Abelard and Heloiseâ€, which, in 1997, won the supreme CONDA (City of Newcastle Drama Award)  for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Newcastle Theatre’ against some 200 other stage productions in Newcastle’s bi-centenary year.Derek worked long and late on the lyrics for the work, producing an emotional document covering history, cause and effect.  His words produced musical responses from me which I consider react appropriately to both his words and the subject matter. I hope our listeners will agree. For the musical treatment I had to consider that the length of the work, through-sung, 20+ minutes, required a recurrent grounding to avoid too many thematic ideas getting in the way of the words.  To that end, I created a quasi-reflective section which appears, rondo-style, quite a few times during the length of the piece.  And, for further cohesion, I built an ABA (ternary) section early to address certain word structures.  Mostly, the various sections followed the stanza structure provided by Derek, with some combinations.  My musical style is essentially melodic, but with dramatic and other episodes, be they tonal, astringent, harmonically indecisive and so on.  In building the work I was principally influenced by the impact and flow of the words. The work is quite mammoth for both the singer and the pianist.  I was absolutely delighted that Anna Fraser again premiered a work of mine – in 2015 she marvellously premiered another major composition of mine, reviewed here:  http://soundslikesydney.com.au/reviews/concert-review-the-man-in-the-other-roomacacia-quartetanna-fraser/19830.htmlWe can only hope that the new work ultimately adds to the chorus of warnings and concern about the climactic future that awaits if we continue to ignore or postpone dramatic and urgent attention to addressing the causes of climate change.A living orb cloaked white and blue and greenRevolving and evolving, tight-hugged in orbit flightWe ride her back; dependent, fragile offspring.Suckling all the while …but have we bonded?A world unlike any other world we’ve seenGifted with Water, Air, Earth and perfect Light. The essentials of life. Freely, these gifts she brings.Free for all but how have we responded?                                   Poem© 2020 Derek DowdingRoss FiddesJanuary 2023.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.835786 Composed by Paul Burnell. Contemporary. Octavo. 124 pages. Paul Burnell #3405305. Published by Paul Burnell (A0.835786). Composed 2007, duration 8:30 approx. The music and text of ‘The Sense of a Place Will Remain’ was inspired by pictures of an early carved stone cross and a tenth-century Viking burial stone on the island of Inchcolm in Scotland. First performed by Inchcolm New Music Ensemble 29 June 2007, conductor Steve King. Instrumentation is flexible; the following is a guide: Part 1 - Violin 1, flute 1 (doubling piccolo if possible) oboe 1, Part 2 - Violin 2, flute 2, oboe 2 (doubling tenor recorder if possible), clarinet 1, trumpet Part 3 - Viola, clarinet 2, horn in F, Eb horn (2 players doubling harmonicas in C) Part 4 - Cello, bassoon Part 5 - Double bass, bass guitar (or Cello 2 - playing as if usual bass clef, but an octave lower where possible) SATB voices (doubling metal spoons and pitch pipes) Optional:Percussion (one player) - claves, glockenspiel (could be a child’s toy instrument such as an ‘Angel’ glockenspiel), mark tree, spring drum (thunder shaker), frame drum, musical jewelry box (or similar clockwork device).Should a glockenspiel not be available, a special part has been created which arranges the glockenspiel for two flutes, together with the other percussion music. This special part is not visible in the score. Keyboard instrument with sustaining capability - piano sound Instructions: Wind players can breathe ad lib. during any very long notes. From letter D onwards non-wind players who are not soloists blow across the top of small bottles. The pitches produced are not specified, but they should not be shrill. A soft breathy tone is preferred. About half of the voices play pairs of metal spoons (share printed part between two singers and anyone not holding the music holds metal spoons). Hold the spoons one in each hand, and strike the larger ends together. Spoons are struck together where shown with a large patterned note head. Strike rapidly where a tremolo sign is given. Four singers play pitch tuning pipes: 1 Soprano and 1 Alto play viola/cello pitch tuning pipes, 1 Tenor and 1 Bass play violin pitch tuning pipes Pitch pipe playing is indicated with square note heads - player should breathe ad lib. during very long notes. Where there are very long sung notes, the singers may stagger breathing ad lib. Spoken sounds are indicated with x note heads and with the text in italics. There are many pauses. These can be of varying duration, but on the whole they should not hold up the momentum of the piece, but be of sufficient duration to establish the solo and pitch pipe notes. Text: Carve stone Strike out Stay at home Or go far alone. Blocks of stone are laid Emblazoned with the signs of great deeds That signify our memory, Mem’ries of who we are. Careful carvings erode through time, Chiseled grooves smooth away. Families, they scatter and fade As generations age Descendants pass on memory time. Sense of our allegiance shifts when major faults are found, Feelings of belonging fall on shaky ground, But the sense of a place will remain.

Bassoon & piano - Digital Download SKU: IZ.BCMS181 Composed by Cindi Hsu. Score. 25 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #BCMS181. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.BCMS181). 9 x 12 in inches.Winner of the 2018 Bassoon Chamber Music Composition CompetitionRequired work for the 2019 Meg Quigley Vivaldi CompetitionSpring Fever was composed in the spring of 2017, following my recent move from the hustle and bustle of New York City to a quiet community near Denver, Colorado. The coming of spring was announced with an abundance of beautiful wild flowers blooming in the yard of my new Colorado home and the neighboring open fields, providing wonderful inspiration for my composition. The beginning of the 1st movement, Pastoral, captures the aura created by the gentle sunlight of a quiet spring afternoon, as it shines through the window and brightens my studio with a warm glow. The calm is suddenly interrupted with a spirited Vivace section that depicts the sound and energy of the neighborhood children at play, and their ensuing laughter and delight! In the end, the peaceful and tranquil opening passage is recapitulated to reflect the warm spring day.The 2nd movement,Fever, begins with an energetic pattern established by the solo bassoon, with driving rhythmic and melodic lines that are carried throughout the entire movement between both the bassoon and piano. The colorful harmonies and syncopated rhythms are somewhat bluesy and suggestive of ragtime.Abrupt changes in dynamics and registers in both instruments serve to create textures and develop thematic ideas, while keeping the syncopated motion driving relentlessly forward. The music relaxes momentarily in a fleeting cantabile section, like briefly catching one's breath, only to have the bassoon abruptly and emphatically restating the opening Fever theme and bringing the movement to its driven conclusion.

Handbell - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1308228 Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by Cheryl (Sutton) Baker - Bronze:FX. Baroque,Chamber,Classical,Wedding. Score. 6 pages. Bronze:FX #897457. Published by Bronze:FX (A0.1308228). This delightful arrangement of the first movement of The Spring is perfect for any energetic moment, regardless of season.  Its charm comes from its quick tempo and dynamic contrasts, complete with the sounds of the spring season (perhaps add a bird whistle, rainstick, props, poem, or a nature slide show). The arrangement is for 4, 5, or 6 ringers using two or three octaves of handbells (or handchimes).  Complete assignments and performance notes are enclosed, and the piece is Level 3 when played with six ringers.  This piece may also be performed by four- or six-in-hand ensembles without tables. The piece is in rondeau form, which means that it has a recurring theme (similar to a refrain) and verses that extremely differ from one another.  Rondeau form is usually explained by letters, where A equals the recurring theme, and each other letter like B or C indicate completely differing verses.  The form then looks like this: ABACADAE etcetera. Because of its consistency, both audience and performers alike will look forward to the next time that the A theme appears. Performance time:• 3 minutes.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1290458 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Romantic Period. 35 pages. Head and Stem #881172. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1290458). BACKSTORY ON “The Dog Had…†Variations The origin of “The Dog Had…†Variations†stems from a frantic voicemail received from the composer’s mother-in-law many years ago while on a visit exclaiming that our dog at the time, Pepper, a chocolate-brown and white springer spaniel, “HAD†an accident of explosive proportions on their basement rug and that we needed to “GET HOME†and deal with it immediately. At first the family was taken aback by the phone message, but ultimately it became a source of hilarity and shortly afterward, the composer’s wife created a rhyme from the message and a tune immediately sprung from that. This tune simply became something our family sung together periodically over many year’s time for amusement until now when the composer came up with the idea to set it to variations for string quartet. In this work, the tune is first heard in simple fashion in its entirety in the viola. Fragments of the tune follow in various guises. For example, the rhythm of the words “GET HOME†as well as “I’VE HAD IT†are prominent thematic ideas used in the piece. There are also a couple of moments where the music sounds weak and demented, but also places where it sounds like a domestic quarrel and the theme is further broken down into fragments. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.

TELEMANN – VIOLIN CONCERTO IN A MAJOR "THE FROGS", TWV 51:A4 (Score and parts in PDF)

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890767 Composed by Georg Philipp Telemann. Arranged by Sneakwood Editions. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 41 pages. Sneakwood Editions #4781035. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890767). Edition based on Ms. D MÜu, ms. 775Score (20 pages) and Parts (friendly performance edition): Violino principale, Violin I, Violin II, Violin III, Viola, Violoncello and Harpsichord. The Violin Concerto in A major (TWV 51:A4), which has come to light only fairly recently, does not take as its musical model the song of the nightingale (as in ‘La Bizarre’ [TWV 55:G2]) or of the goldfinch (Vivaldi), but the croaking of the common frog, also called ‘Reling’ in certain regions of Germany, whence the concerto’s subtitle. Nothing better could be expected of a composer who found inspiration even in crows and in the out-of-tune playing of village musicians! Although this concerto, which the manuscript attributes to Telemann, bears traces of his personal style, other features, such as the exceptionally high solo part, leave room for doubt. At a structurally important point in the first movement the soloist produces no more than a succession of repeated notes, ‘a-a, a-a’, which infect the other parts as well. Of course, this is the vowel that the frog croaks, given a distinctive tone-colour by use of the open A string and stopped D string. But worse is to come. In the second ritornello the orchestral violins ‘forget’ the beginning of their theme, whilst the cello inappropriately pushes its way into the foreground. The setting of the second movement (Adagio), probably a moonlit stretch of shallow water, then audibly inspires a pair of courting frogs to make sweet music together. We are given the opportunity to rejoice in their croaking offspring in the concluding Menuet and its rapid Double. This movement entirely dispenses with concertante sounds of nature and thereby betrays its origins in the suite, where it always takes its accustomed place in Telemann’s music. If we knew that a satirist was at work in this ‘Relinge’ Concerto, someone who was deliberately exhibiting all these deviations from good taste, then we could infer with some certainty that the composer is indeed Telemann. Since his own concertos ‘smack of France’ (as he puts it in his autobiography of 1718), we may most likely credit him with permitting his not at all ‘sullen old heart’ a little joke at the expense of the relevant concertos of a certain Italian composer… – Peter Huth (trans. Published by Panagiotis Theodossiou (A0.886642). 30 Short Children Pieces for Piano Solo (2007)The life of a child reveals and hides inside images and sentiments, sounds and experiences, questions and concerns. Parts of a world lost forever but treasured in the adult soul. From First Day, First Page of the diary and Sunday’s Joybells to the Bittersweet morning dances and the Calm of a Sunny Afternoon, from A Sudden Absence and a Strange Question to the Loneliness and Dream, from the imaginary Indian Dance to the Walkin’ on a Rainy Day and from March of the Goose to the Flowers’ Waltz, Lullaby and Farewell Song, these Diary of a Child pages unfold the thread of a very well known memory, a memory of us all. These 30 short piano pieces were composed between 2003 and 2007. Some of them are compositions of inspired children, composer’s pupils, like Orsaki Roussetou and Plato Tsoukatos-Pontikis.This collection is dedicated to all composer’s pupils and especially toy Nikos Karidis, the grown up child who gave me the opportunity to write most of the pieces presented. The work was recorded by Dimitra Mane on cd for the upcoming edition.. The artist performed parts of the work in composer's personal Portrait organized by Greek Composers Union at Hellenic Conservatory in Maroussi in 2010 and the whole collection at Mikros Horos Tehnis (Little Hall of Arts) in Glyfada, Attiki, in 2015. Parts of the work had been performed also by Eleni Papaspyrou students, from Herakleion Music School, in Theatrical Station, Herakleion, Crete and at Lillian Voudouri Library Hall in Athens Concert Hall in 2015.39. Jeux pour Deux for two pianos (2007)A work of neoclassical character with influences from jazz idiom. It is dedicated to the piano duo Dimitra Mane – Andy Miliory and to Maurice Ravel in the musical style of whom there are intentional references - by which was performed at Athenaeum Concert Hall Athens in 2008. The work have been secondly performed by Ting Ke and Chenshayang Huang at Boston University Concert Hall under Spring 14 Piano Ensemble Juries (K. Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869365 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Latin,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 102 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #29655. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869365). Instrumentation: 2222-4321-2perc-pf-strings. When Andrea Bates, executive director of the Brockton Symphony Orchestra, first told me that the Brockton Symphony had commissioned me to write a new work to be premiered in 2003-2004, I immediately thought that since its music director, Jonathan Cohler, is a marvelous clarinetist I would be most attracted to the idea of writing a clarinet concerto for the occasion. Both Andrea and Jonathan were very receptive and enthusiastic about my idea. Andrea also told me that the commissioned work should somehow bring to attention the diverse cultures of the recent immigrants that have settled in the city of Brockton. So in the spring of 2003 I came down to Brockton for a meeting to which Andrea had invited representative members of these new communities. Three showed up: Maria Evora-Rosa, Rick Marrero and Fred Fontaine. Andrea had asked them to bring recordings of the music from their countries for me to listen to. There were CDs of very exciting and fun music from Cape Verde, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. After spending months listening to the music from these countries, all of them islands in the Atlantic or the Caribbean, I slowly began to get a sense of the beauty and the magic of the musical style and language of each place, each individual island. The end result is a three-movement work for clarinet and orchestra. Unlike the traditional Concerto form which is Fast-Slow-Fast, this work begins with something slow. A fast number follows as a second movement; and then, after a short, slow interlude, another fast number appears. The first movement is my adaptation of the morna of Cape Verde – slow, melancholy and sad. The diva of the morna is Cesaria Evora. Her singing brings to mind a fusion between the African blues and the Portuguese fado. The second movement is my take on the merengue as performed by the inimitable Xavier Cugat. It is dance music through and through!!! The third movement is also a dance number: the ever-popular music from Haiti, the reggae. And in order to give some contrast between the two dance numbers, I added a slow chorale for clarinet and strings that serves as a prelude before the dancing begins in the final movement. I envision the chorale as a little church music before the people go out and dance the night away. Throughout the entire work, the solo clarinet is the principal voice … singing, dancing, and cavorting!!! Gotta dance!!! Have fun and enjoy the music!!! I surely did as I was working on it ….

Psalm 100 ~ my absolute favorite verses in the Bible and what I claim as my life verses! As a young girl, I remember memorizing them and how they forever imprinted on my heart to live a life through service, surrender, JOY, and love for my eternal Father, my King. Life is a gift that we get to live. Each breath is a gift that I dedicate to my heavenly Father as I walk closely with Him on this journey of life. He is with me, He inspires me through His Word, He directs my steps through the whispers of the Holy Spirit, and He pours from my soul through the joy and love that He has given me. Praise God for His gift of salvation and that every step I take is one step closer to an eternity with Him! Please enjoy this song that I was inspired to create because of its impact on my heart and throughout my life ~ I hope it is an encouragement to you and brings joy to those that learn, share, or listen!A Joyful Sound Ministries ~ the name of our family music ministry that began in the early 1980’s and remains alive in my heart to this very day. God called my parents when they were very young to live a life of service to our King, dedicating every moment of their lives, their children, their careers, and their hearts to living His Word and beaming the light of Christ wherever they were called to walk, with whomever God placed on their path. From nursing homes, churches, Cook County Prison, homeless missions…God used our family in a mighty way to show Himself through the music, verses, testimony, and simple conversations He would inspire us to share. Through endless prayer, hours of musical rehearsing, and a lot of fun along the way, God gave us the privilege of sharing His love through ministry. I am forever thankful, inspired, and transformed because of what HE did through us! It was always about HIM and I will forever live my life of service to the King, inspired by this incredible springboard of a magical childhood that God gave me through the surrendered heart of my parents.

Thomas Oboe Lee #431379. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869295). Instrumentation: 3222-4231-timp-2perc-hp-chorus-strings Program note:It has been a wonderful two years of thinking, learning and working on my Continental Harmony Project with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. It is a rare occasion that a composer in the 21st century would receive a commission to write a musical work of such scale: a 40-minute piece for symphony orchestra, 200-plus chorus and a ballet company. At the Bangor Public Library I found some wonderful evocative 19th century texts for the chorus about the city of Bangor and its environs: the Penobscot River, Mt. Ktaadn, the logging industry, the native American culture, etc. At times I felt overwhelmed, but most of the times I was exuberant and quite inspired by the music that came forth in the process. The premiere is less than a month away, and I am looking forward to it. Susan Jonason, Executive Director of the Bangor Symphony, has made the occasion a very public one: a free concert on a Saturday evening! I hope the audience will go home humming the tunes from the work as they walk into the crisp, cool Bangor night.Formally the work is in five movements. The first, third and fifth movements are choral, and the two in between are orchestral. In the premiere, the Robinson Ballet will dance in the orchestral movements. The first movement is about the Penobscot River from winter to spring. The melting of the ice is a harbinger of things to come: warmer weather, for instance; but it has also contributed to a lot of flooding in the city of Bangor and its surroundings. The second movement is a waltz, a grand 19th century ballroom waltz for the ladies of the rich lumber barons. They come to the ball showing off their latest hats and gowns from London, Paris and Milan. The third movement is about the woods and the people who work in them. Thoreau’s text about Mt. Ktaadn is full of awesome thoughts about how nature is beautiful, yet unkind to man. It is followed by a J.G. Whittier lyric entitled The Logger’s Boast. The original song had twenty stanzas to it. I whittled it down to five. I don’t know what the original song sounded like, so I made up my own version of a lumberjack’s drinking song. The fourth movement is a wild, drunken polka. After a long week of working in the woods the lumbermen come back to the city and spend all their earnings on booze, women and gambling. And they dance the night away …The last movement begins with a funeral march for Joe Attien, a native American who was Thoreau’s guide when he came up here in the 1900’s. The work ends with a rousing march, a centennial hymn to the city of Bangor. God bless our city Bangor, now! On this its birthday morn …NB: The two ballet movements, II. La Valse and IV. Drunken Polka, are optional.

Composition inspired by the poem There will Come Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale. There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground, And swallows calling with their shimmering sound; And frogs in the pools singing at night, And wild plum-trees in tremulous white; Robins will wear their feathery fire Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire; And not one will know of the war, not one Will care at last when it is done. Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree If mankind perished utterly; And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn, Would scarcely know that we were gone.

Reflective and subdued, the interplay between Stevens’ piano and Iimori’s oboe is effortless and flowing. Autumn Wind picks up the pace a bit, but continues the easy flow, bringing images of leaves swirling. Signs of Winter is a bit darker and more mysterious. Iimori is a big fan of Paul McCandless, and that musician’s influence is very strongly heard in these first three pieces - a very good thing! In Clouds, Iimori switches from oboe to English horn. This duet with the piano is a dramatic musical depiction of the gathering clouds and anticipation of a coming thunder storm. I really like it a lot! Snow is tranquility set to music. Sparrow’s Song brings us to the beginnings of spring - the freshness in the air, and the joyful songs of birds in the yard. July reflects the laziness of a hot summer day. Season’s Reprise brings together the themes from the various seasons, creating a lovely closing to the Suite.

The American Seasons (score – violin and string orchestra) MO148AScore (parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor99 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra. Composed in 1999, the music celebrates the various stages of an American life at the waking of the 21st century. Constructed in four movements and representing four stages of life, birth, adolescence, maturity and old age, the music also pays homage to Shakespeare's Seasons Of Man His acts being seven ages, incorporated throughout the work.Spring introduces the ideas of birth and infancy. After the principal theme has been stated, there is a violin cadenza encountering all twelve major keys and a 13/8 time signature representing the ancient golden ratio. These elements recall birth with all the possibilities a new life offers. Ending the movement, the principal theme is repeated with more complexity... as if posing life's questions.Summer represents the excitement and bravado of youthful adolescence and young adulthood. For the style of this movement I use a happy-go-lucky Blues voice which melds into Swing. I identify swing rhythm in all of 20th century American music culture as a common thread that runs through Ragtime through Rock and Roll on to Rap. Swing means testing the waters and pushing the envelope for lovers and soldiers.Fall is the slow movement symbolizing the wisdom of maturity. It is a peaceful theme with nostalgic strokes. It is a time for sincere reflection and enjoying ones accomplishments in life.Winter embodies the complexities and knowledge of an older person and that of a dying person. The movement begins with the principal them from Spring, but with a dissonance that emanates from a lifetime full of emotions and responsibilities. In the middle of the movement is a transition to an old world. I use my personal ancestry from Ireland as a foundation from which to rediscover one's lineage and explore the meaning and value of a cultural legacy. The exploration evolves into a four- and five-part fugue with a reel, jig, air, countered bass and the motif from the principal theme. All these elements, dances and melodies appear simultaneously and converge to form a unique insight to life's consequences from a historical perspective. Following the fugue, the principal theme finds its way back in. It sounds much as it did at birth. In the end, the solo violin cadenza carries the last earthly breaths before the violin and orchestra once again join in harmony to focus on a new life being transformed somewhere else. Life's four seasons in perpetuity. The American Seasons (violas part – violin and string orchestra) MO148FViolas Part (score and parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor42 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra.
