This piece combines the standard text of Ave Maria in English with the text from Proverbs 31 known as Woman of ValorI wrote this piece to venerate Mary and also to venerate all women and their personal strengths. I consider this Easy to Medium in difficulty, as it has a lot of unison singing and simple four part choral singing. This would be perfect to use to in a Christmas, Mother's Day, or regular service that highlights contributions of women, and the personal strength necessary to surmount ordeals in life. The middle melody is taken from the Gregorian Chant Ave Maria but with words from Proverbs. It should be sung in the style of a legato, light chant, yet with crisp consonants to hear all the words. I am working on an SSA version of the same piece. For those who do not have a budget for a harpist, I also have a backing track available with the harp and organ. The organ is lighter, so an organist could play along and be dominant, and the harp would be heard most. The harp part is attached score.

The piece opens with the tune altered to G mixolydian mode. As the word exploited appears, a sinister-sounding E flat enters the harmony. Open octaves between soprano and bass show the emptying, followed by a shift to E phrygian mode with the word slave. Several dissonances emerge as the narrative gets darker. The flute and clà rsach represent chaos or hell with an aleatoric interlude of extended techniques involving tongue rams, flutter tonguing, multiphonics, spoken syllables, and lever glissandi. The harp then joyfully proclaims the new tonality of G major in a fanfare to introduce the text of praise and exaltation. The original source tune returns harmonically restored to G major.

As angels announce the birth of Jesus to the shepherds, Teresa foreshadows Jesus’ crucifixion by referring to him as Cordero (Lamb). She also affirms Jesus as the fully human (hombre también junto) and fully divine son of the sovereign God (Hijo de Dios Soberano). The piece opens with angels approaching from a distance singing pastores (shepherds) followed by joyful choral couplets. Several dualities weave together representing the oneness of the human and divine: harp and piano; Venezuelan joropo rhythm derived from Spanish dance; sixteenth century text and twenty-first century music; and major and Phrygian modes. In the Midst of Wild Being (2007) for SATB chorus, horn, and harp was commissioned by the King’s Chapel Concert Series, Heinrich Christensen, director, with the support of Choral Arts New England. The work was written in memory of American composer Daniel Pinkham (1923–2006), longtime director of music at King’s Chapel. The texts, written by American poet Elizabeth Kirschner, are directly inspired by the landscape of New England-though the sentiments reflected by the poems can apply to many places. Throughout, the focus is on the chorus, whose music is colored by the horn and harp. The Garden begins with an extended, unfolding introduction for horn and harp; the pace is that of a slow, steady walk. Though the pace remains, the music raises itself to rich climaxes in celebration of the verdant landscape. The Sea is a light and airy dance featuring a bouncy melodic theme that returns a number of times. The Forest is rich and expressive, reflecting true oneness with the landscape.

It is premiering this Christmas Eve(2021). I go between eighths and triplets and it adds a contemporary feel to the piece. I hope you enjoy it. Notice at the end is the harp score. This is a full score. You could also use the version I have for SATB+piano, as it is the same. The harp part is at the end of this sheet music.
