It makes it all the more meditative by removing the striking qualities of the piano with the softer, more subdued qualities of the cellos.The solo cello remains the same as in the original work. Three cellos have been cast as the accompanying instruments, which creates a true chamber-like feel. Unlike my duet arrangements of Goltermann's Nocturne in D minor or Mendelssohn's Song Without Words -- also for sale in this online store -- this quartet, as it were, makes an honest attempt at reaching the sublime.

Pictures movie 'The Polar Express', comes a new arrangement of 'When Christmas Comes To Town'. A box office hit, 'The Polar Express' tells the story of a young boy (named Hero Boy), who embarks upon a journey to the North Pole on a mysterious steam train on Christmas Eve, to visit Santa Claus. Once on board the train, the boy meets other children from various backgrounds who are all wanting to see Santa, as well as a magical train crew, headed by the Conductor. 'The Polar Express' stars Tom Hanks, providing voices and motion-capture for 6 characters, including the Conductor and Santa Claus. With an incredible original soundtrack from Hollywood legend Alan Silvestri, combined with other iconic Christmas recordings, 'The Polar Express' became an instant hit, and has embedded itself in Christmas popular culture.'When Christmas Comes To Town' is performed in the film by the characters Billy the Lonely Boy and Hero Girl, with singing voices provided by Matthew Hall and Meagan Moore, and tells the story of their differing perspectives of Christmas, with a shared desire to see Santa. This new arrangement from Matt Shaw is scored for two solo Tenor Horns with brass band accompaniment (including a tutti 2nd horn part), and captures all the magic and innocence of the original song, whilst being intentionally scored to be approachable and playable by bands of all levels. The solo lines are scored within a sensible range, and are supported by warm chords from the middle and lower band, with a continuous magical presence from the percussion writing. Originally arranged for, and performed by, the Wingates Brass Band, this arrangement promises to be a fantastic new addition to any band Christmas programme, as both a new and accessible feature and an instant crowd pleaser. The top line as written is intermediate, but there are a few optional “ossia†bars that make the line early intermediate. There’s also an optional bass line for conventional guitar or bass guitar and that’s supplied in treble and bass clefs. The bass line will suit a beginner, but the piece also works fine without it. There is an “improvisation†section in the middle with call and response lines to add interest for players and audience alike.In a large ensemble it works well to have both top parts plus bass and octave bass lines playing - it makes a massive wall of sound!This arrangement was a firm favourite with the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra (HAGO) and their audiences. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as HAGO did!

ELIZABETHAN SERENADE - 6 Guitars or 5+BassFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes Ronald Binge was a fantastic composer, but few people know of his works. He worked as an arranger for Mantovani, and was, they say, responsible for “The Mantovani Sound†- that cascade of overlapping waterfalls of strings. His Elizabethan Serenade is nothing less that utterly charming. My arrangement is modelled on the version I wrote for the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra (which played 4 different sizes of guitar). This arrangement is one tone higher, and fits nicely onto 6 classical or acoustic guitars (or a large ensemble). Guitar 6 is in treble and bass clefs, so one can substitute a double bass or electric bass, or thicken up the existing part with a deeper sound. My arrangement is mixed ability, almost all the music is early intermediate, but the top line is perhaps intermediate. There are plenty of dynamics which make the music come alive, but there is no fingering - almost all of it can be played in First Position, and a gentle mellow sound will create the most amazing accompaniment which the audience will be convinced has a hidden echo somewhere. When my guitar orchestra played this in concert, you could hear a pin drop - it is a wonderful piece and deserves to be played far more often. I hope YOU enjoy playing this piece!
