Brass Band Bass Trombone,Horn,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.549208 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Renaissance,Standards. Score and Parts. 47 pages. Jmsgu3 #3464513. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549208). A musical monument: the first composition to employ dynamics Minimum Instrumentation: 4 trumpets, 3 French Horns, 2 tenor trombones, 1 bass trombone, 1 tuba. Arranged in two antiphonal choirs. Suggested instrumentation: 8 trumpets, 9 Horns, 6 Tenor Trombones, 2 Bass Trombone, 4 Tubas. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation rather than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it through sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Bass Trombone,Trumpet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.549202 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Renaissance,Standards. 47 pages. Jmsgu3 #3460779. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549202). An antiphonal masterwork from the Sacrae Symphoniae, Venice,1597. Minimum instrumentation: 2 Trumpets, 2 French Horns, 2 Tenor Trombones, 2 Bass Trombones. Suggested instrumentation: multiples of the minimum instrumentation, e.g., 4 or 8 on each part. Place the choirs left and right - separated by enough space to accentuate the antiphonal nature of the music entirely. It is best performed in an ample reverberant space. Euphoniums might replace some of the trombones to good effect. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and, indeed, instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Large Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Double Bass,Drums,Electric Bass Guitar,Piano Accompaniment,Trombone,Trumpet,Voice - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1032048 Composed by George Shearing. Arranged by Serena Rose. Jazz. Score and parts. 25 pages. Serena Rose Music #4313909. Published by Serena Rose Music (A0.1032048). This playful arrangement of Lullaby of Birdland by George Shearing (concert Ab) for voice and 3 horn ( alto sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, and drums ) is unique from many arrangements of this jazz standard by weaving complimentary melodies around the vocal melody, giving this piece a welcome breath of fresh air. The 10-bar intro has a rhythmic push in the piano reminiscent of Jamiroquai’s Virtual Insanity that intensifies the listener’s anticipation to hear the first few notes of this familiar tune in a new and unique context. Returning back to the head via a simple D.S. enables instrumentalists to easily focus on solos rather than the form. The 2-bar rhythm-section outro concludes the piece precisely and cleanly and takes the listener back to the time when jazz bands were first cooking up storms on the dance floors. Though cited with tempo at a quarter note = 160 bpm, this arrangement works well at any bpm between 140 and 170.Other than for the introduction and the ending, the piano part includes chords and rhythmic notation throughout for easy improvisation. The bass part includes both an intermediate-advanced written part and chords throughout, thus accommodating bassists at all skill levels and/or those who would prefer to play a combination of written and improvised bass lines. The drum chart is to be improvised throughout; however, it includes suggested rhythmic ideas and indicates key points in the arrangement such as horn hits, repeats, and fills. PLEASE NOTE: For ease of identifying parts, the forthcoming audio clip furnishes a piano playing the vocal melody. The piano chart does not include the melody. About the Arranger: Serena Rose is a professional musician who performs weekly in the greater Los Angeles area. She has a master's in music composition and has composed three large works for the Orange Coast College Wind Ensemble as well as various smaller ensembles based in Los Angeles.

Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung.HomophonyHence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Brass Ensemble Bass Trombone,Cornet,Horn - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1228233 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Renaissance. 54 pages. Jmsgu3 #824153. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1228233). Minimum instrumentation: 4 Cornets in Bb, 4 French Horns in F, 1 Tenor Trombone, 1 Bass Trombone.InnovationsGabrieli preferred sacred vocal and, indeed, instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and reverberation for maximum effect. Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was instead the first to indicate them, such as in his Sonata Pian' e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He, therefore, developed and used particular notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style.Polychoral WorksGabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He indeed used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Indeed, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, followed by a group response. Sometimes, there was probably a third group near the main altar.Spatial MusicAbove all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation rather than two groups. Because they could be appropriately situated, the instruments could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper can sound perfectly in balance in contrast.First WorksFinally, Gabrieli published his first motets and his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges shown by instrumental accompaniment. Gabrieli's later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) seem to move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it through sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here, the instruments are an essential part of the presentation—also, only parts marked Capella are supposed to be sung.HomophonyHence, after 1605, Gabrieli moved to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – called Sinfonia – and smaller units for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Score and parts. 9 pages. Con Spirito Music #6168353. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726112). The Wexford Carol is an Irish carol that is thought to date to the 12th century. It achieved wide popularity in the 20th century due to its inclusion in The Oxford Book of Carols.Like many folk and traditional songs, it was transcribed from the performance of a local singer - in this case, by William Grattan Flood (1857-1928), an Irish musicologist, composer, and organist who collected it from a singer in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland. This arrangement for solo trombone with piano accompaniment features an impelling rhythmic foundation, rich harmonies, and a lovely countermelodic line for flute.Includes piano score, solo trombone part in both bass clef and Bb treble clef, and solo flute part.©Copyright 2009 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). By Graham Hamilton. Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Historic,Medieval. Brass Band. 83 pages. Hambone Music #1018484. Published by Hambone Music (A0.1438467). A beautiful slow melody in 4/4 followed by a rousing 6/4 trek with fanfares then returning to the slow melody in 4/4. Not overly difficult but players should be around Grade 5 (ABRSM) and bands of around 2nd to 3rd section, although still possible with 4th section bands. Inspired by an old ruined church in my town called the 'Cross Kirk' during the times of the Cromwellian invasion of Scotland.Part 1 It is around the year 1650. A novice monk awakes from his slumber to the echoes of prayers and holy chanting coming through the cloisters. After he rises, he readies the oxen for a trek down the St. Andrews Road to the nearby satellite site of the priory - the site of the modern day St Andrew's cemetery. Part 2 It is an arduous trek over a muddy, rocky, unprepared track with heavy carts, with oxen straining to pull the load. They stop for a breather (3:09) and the impressive vistas are observed and the flag at 'Auld Neidpath' is just visible, reflected in the noble theme between the arduous oxen trekking theme. Part 3 The caravan starts to speed up; the oxen being startled by the sounds of fanfare trumpets coming from behind - a brave group of knights have broken through English lines and speed towards Neidpath to reinforce the besieged occupants. As they pass the wagon train, the fanfares get louder until the party reach the head of the train where the lead Knight halts to show piety to the Hieromonk who blesses him and his knights. The novice looks on awe-inspired at the brave knights, with noble faces, resplendent in shining armour, with banners flapping in the wind. No time to stop! The knights remount and continue on, the fanfares trailing off into the distance. The wagon train slows down having reached its destination. Part 4 The novice is back at the priory, reflecting on seeing knights for the first time (receiving their blessing); their nobility and bravery impressed upon him and retires to his cell for the evening, the evening prayers and chants again echoing through the cloisters . As he closes his eyes, his mind returns to the knights and a smile crosses his face as he gently drifts off to sleep, as the final bell of the day tolls.

Brass Band. 41 pages. RBMusic #801860. Published by RBMusic (A0.1203187). Helping Hands is a march written for the British Bandsman March Composition Contest, entered into category 2 (marches for 3rd/4th section bands). It is dedicated to all the volunteers that make the Whit Friday March Contests possible, which is said to be the greatest free show on Earth. The piece is loosely programmatic in nature. The introduction is fanfare-like, announcing the date of the next Whit Friday Contests and the bands’ anticipation of and preparation for the event. The first section is the march of the volunteers, as they descend upon the many venues, ready to run the contests. There is the usual hustle and bustle before the second section sees the contests start. The bands strike up, march, finish and go from place to place, whilst the volunteers manage them, the audiences, and all manner of issues and problems thrown at them. The third section represents the bad weather which has, at times, presented itself on that particular Friday. But everyone carries on (possibly the sun comes out) and we enjoy the day.The trio uses the hymn St. Vincent by Sigismund Neukomm: St. Vincent de Paul is the patron saint of charities and volunteering, hence its use here. There is a small bridge that is reminiscent of previously used motifs and melodies before the hymn returns. The piece is influenced by marches that are commonly heard during the Whit Friday March Contests, using motifs, rhythms and harmonic progressions (sparingly) throughout the piece. This piece is for the UK-style brass band, includes march-card sized parts, with alternatives for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass.Other searchable terms: Delph, Denshaw, Diggle Dobcross, Friezland, Greenfield, Grotton, Lees and Springhead, Lydgate, Scouthead and Austerlands, Uppermill, Broadoak, Carrbrook, Denton, Droylsden, The Bush, Dukinfield, Tame Valley, Heyrod, Hurst Village, Ashton United FC, Stalybridge, Labour Club, Knight Templar, The Wizard, The President, Ravenswood, Honest Toil, Mephistopheles, Melphi, O.R.B., Castell Coch, Cornish Cavalier William Rimmer, T. Bass Trombone,Cornet,Horn - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1486246 Composed by Landini. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Early Music,Historic,Renaissance,Standards. 15 pages. Jmsgu3 #1063306. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1486246). Francesco Landini's Ecco la Primavera is a significant work from the early Renaissance that exemplifies several essential aspects of 14th-century Italian music. The piece is a ballata, a popular form of Italian secular music during the Trecento period (14th century), also known as the Italian Ars Nova. This era marked the beginning of a new musical epoch. Ecco la Primavera is composed as an isorhythmic duet. Isorhythm was a crucial compositional technique in medieval and early Renaissance music, demonstrating Landini's mastery of complex musical structures. The work celebrates spring and love, reflecting the humanist ideals emerging during the early Renaissance. This focus on secular themes and natural beauty was a departure from the predominantly religious music of the medieval period. The piece provides insight into the cultural and social life of 14th-century Florence. It was likely performed at gatherings of intellectuals and artists, such as the one described at Villa del Paradiso near Florence in 1389.As the foremost composer of the Trecento period, Landini's works, including Ecco la Primavera, are crucial for understanding the musical developments of this era. The composition features flowing melodies that were characteristic of early Renaissance Italian music. This melodic style would influence the development of Renaissance music more broadly. The work has endured over centuries and continues to be performed and appreciated today, as evidenced by its inclusion in contemporary classical music rankings.Ecco la Primavera thus serves as an important example of the musical, cultural, and intellectual shifts occurring in Italy during the transition from the medieval period to the Renaissance.
