Small Ensemble Drum Set,Marimba,Vibraphone,Viola - Level 4 - SKU: A0.869590 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Jazz,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 46 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #4102857. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869590). Violist Noriko Futagami and multi-percussionist Bob (Robert) Schulz have played my music on many occasions, especially as members of the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Noriko and Bob are a domestic pair and this is a musical Christmas present for them. True Confession. I have always been a fan (a secret and odd admirer) of Morton Feldman's music since I was a graduate student in composition, way back in the early 70's. When I say odd admirer I mean to say that I admire him from a distance, more out of respect than from any true emotional response to his music. Why is that? Well, his music and mine are so different ... But I respect his artistic integrity and guts!!! Anyway, The Viola in Bob's Life (of course, I stole the title from MF!!!) is in four movements. The viola is featured in all of them. Bob plays a different percussion instrument in each, except he has to do some clever overdubbing in the last because it is scored for marimba and drum set.1. Allegro ... for viola and marimba.2. Allegro ... for viola and drum set.3. Adagio ... for viola and vibraphone.4. Moderato ... for viola, marimba and drum set.Enjoy!!!Audio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/the-viola-in-bobs-life-2018YouTube link: https://youtu.be/Enc9pgCfvPo

Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - SKU: A0.942429 Composed by Claude Debussy (1862-1918). Arranged by Brock Lupton (1948-). 20th Century. 24 pages. Brock Lupton #6858209. Published by Brock Lupton (A0.942429). Claude Debussy was, by all accounts, totally devoted to his daughter Claude-Emma (affectionately known as Chouchou) The suite Children's Corner (for solo piano) is dedicated to Chouchou. She outlived her father by scarcely a year, succumbing to the diphtheria epidemic of 1919. (with information from Wikipedia). The naming of one or two among Debussy's piano works can raise issues in the light of current trends. These were not an issue during the composer's life, but are unlikely to be ignored today. The word Golliwog may have unwanted implications, but its omission may cause confusion with another of the composer's short piano works known simply as Cakewalk. The cakewalk was a dance developed from the prize walks (dance contests with a cake awarded as the prize) held in the mid-19th century, generally at get-togethers on Black slave plantations before and after emancipation in the Southern United States.... It was originally a processional partner dance danced with comical formality, and may have developed as a subtle mockery of the mannered dances of white slaveholders. Following an exhibition of the cakewalk at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, the cakewalk was adopted by performers in minstrel shows, where it was danced exclusively by men until the 1890s. At that point, Broadway shows featuring women began to include cakewalks, and grotesque dances became very popular across the country. [Wikipedia] The grotesque aspect of some later cakewalk dance steps may well be heard in the accompaniment to this work: the oboist's endeavors to produce a soft low B-natural (!) will help create this effect.Technically this piece is intermediate, but the range of the bassoon (especially), oboe, and (to a lesser extent) horn parts are an additional challenge for those players.

Large Ensemble Bass Clarinet,Cello,Guitar,Oboe,Percussion,Piano,Timpani,Violin - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1012953 Composed by Carmelo Mantione. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards,World. Score and parts. 132 pages. Carmelo Mantione #5889217. Published by Carmelo Mantione (A0.1012953). The composition aims to be a musical reflection on a sort of inner path of the human being: Limes, that is, path, starting from a phase of innocence and light-heartedness (Part One: the refusal of love for the life , text taken from Aminta del Tasso) passing through the phase of falling in love for the beauty of an ideal partner, which is a metaphor for the beauty of life itself, (Part Two: the enchantment of beauty , the text of which is Shakespeare's sonnet XXIV) to reach a stage of maturation in which man becomes aware of the precariousness of his existence and asks himself the big questions about life. He therefore tries to take refuge in the dream as an escape, in the estrangement from life itself and in the search for an innocence and an unawareness of the subjective existence that seems to give him the only form of serenity (the dream as a refuge from the precariousness of life, text from La via del Rifugio by Guido Gozzano).

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Clarinet,English Horn,Flute,Oboe - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1268290 By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Contemporary,Pop. 17 pages. RayThompsonMusic #860853. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1268290). Arranged standard wind quintet.A Day in the Life is a song by the English rock band the Beatles that was released as the final track of their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Credited to Lennon–McCartney, the opening and closing sections of the song were mainly written by John Lennon, with Paul McCartney primarily contributing the song's middle section. All four Beatles played a role in shaping the final arrangement of the song.Lennon's lyrics were mainly inspired by contemporary newspaper articles, including a report on the death of Guinness heir Tara Browne. The recording includes two passages of orchestral glissandos that were partly improvised in the avant-garde style. In the song's middle segment, McCartney recalls his younger years, which included riding the bus, smoking, and going to class. Following the second crescendo, the song ends with one of the most famous chords in music history, played on several keyboards, that sustains for over forty seconds. My version of the crescendo for 5 instruments! has chromatic scales played in different note values, over a repeating E on bassoon...it seems to work! The melody is taken by the clarinet, oboe and flute. The mp3 is the end of the middle section, leading into the final verse. The video is the complete piece.

Nolwazi Nkwanyana #6884175. Published by Nolwazi Nkwanyana (A0.1029742). For Flute, Bb Clarinet and PianoDuration: 4.5 minutesThe relationship between the sun and the moon is a rather fascinating one. One could imagine that the sun, as bright and glorious as it is, shares its light to help the moon come to life at night. A bright full moon is such a splendid and ethereal sight -but it would not be so without the sun. During the darkest nights, the moon and sun work together to provide the night sky with a timeless illumination. You will find that all three instruments have their beautiful individual moments. However, the most brilliant and splendid sections in the piece are a result of their timbres combined and the way their melodic lines intertwine. The piano part is crucial for setting the mood of each section and should be treated with ultimate delicacy and importance. There is no main instrument in this piece. The flute and clarinet come together bringing additional light and life to the majestic landscape that is provided by the piano.

An original hymn with text by Krista Mason Pace below.YouTube Video: https://youtu.be/KE-8yPHYkRkI know that God lives as sure as the sun sends light from above. Rivers that flow and starlight aglow, testify true of His love. I know that God lives. His ev’ry creation delights whence it came. Mountains in splendor and beauty herald His glorious name. I know that God lives; I know that He sent His Son to the Earth. His life he gave, then rose from the grave, off’ring a gift of great worth. I know that God lives. His work and His glory eternally sing. Cov’nants that bind me to Heaven; Near Him, He longs to bring. I know that God lives. This great work engages all men to know. Gained step by step, from parents who’ve kept promises made long ago. I know that God lives, And sweet is the feeling of answering prayer Led by His Spirit, each errand; Others know that He’s there. I know that God lives. I honor His name and church in these days. His work is true, and always I knew I’d give my love, strength, and praise. I know that God lives, the depth of my soul yearns to sing it aloud. Praying for blessings for all ‘til Glory comes in a cloud.

Woodwind Ensemble Bassoon,Clarinet,Oboe - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1184728 Composed by alan Edgar and John Milton. 20th Century,Chamber. 54 pages. Alan Edgar Ted Moon #784409. Published by Alan Edgar Ted Moon (A0.1184728). Paradise Lost by The English poet John Milton is an epic occupying twelve books, totalling more than ten thousand five hundred lines. It retells the tale of the Fall of Mankind – the moment when Eve was enticed by Satan to eat the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge and then tempted Adam to do the same, and as a result both were banished from the Garden of Eden. Milton imagines far more detail than the Holy Bible. This song presents the story from Adam’s point of view, so I selected relevant passages in Paradise Lost, where Milton imagines Adam’s thoughts and experiences; and I edited them for scansion, to suit a more modern ear, and to make a logical sequence of events. Adam bemoans the deception of Eve by the Serpent and his own shame.  Then he hears Archangel Michael  pronounce the couple’s sentence of banishment from Eden. Next he laments his having to leave Eden. Michael warns him that there will be consequences for all his descendants, and he is given a vision of those horrid consequences—murder, disease and misery. They leave Eden, and Adam hymns of his renewed worshipful attitude,  of a final acceptance of their new more ordinary life.DURATION:  11 minutes.INSTRUMENTATION:  Tenor(c to top c), with either a reed quartet (Oboes, Clarinet and Bassoon) or string quartet.  Dress optional.

From the Composer:I committed last year (2022) to review my musical works that have been in digital storage, complete them as necessary, and release them for the world to hear. I finally finished my first work on this list, one that's been on my hard drive in one version or another since 1999 (that's 24 whole years!).Las Follias de España (which despite its name, originally came from Portugal) is a chord progression usually in either D minor or G minor in the form of i-V-i-VII-III-VII-i-V. Composers for the last 500 years have used this chord progression to come up with some fantastic theme and variations, ranging from unaccompanied works, trio sonatas, to even full orchestral implementations. You can spend a looooong time listening to all the beautiful compositions that composers have made over the centuries highlighting this very captivating set of chords.I humbly submit my own version of La Folia in D minor for String Trio and Cembalo (harpsichord). I wrote my first version of this in my senior year of High School as a challenge to myself to write music in a genre I loved. I made updates here and there over the years, but its sat on a hard drive the entire time. It's taken me months to essentially rework it to my satisfaction and has been submitted for copyright. I have uploaded it to YouTube to share with others.BIG SHOUT OUTS to the three composers that inspired me in this work:Corelli: - His version of La Folia is probably the most popular for violinists, especially those that play out of the Suzuki books. I included a modified version of his Folia (Variation 9) in my work (with all other parts being vastly different from his interpretation) as an homage to his work.J.S. Bach - He showed me that music can be as intelligent as it is beautiful. I have two variations inspired by his work. Variation 8 is one that I wrote this year (2023) which I wanted to write for a long time is a variation that showcases the Harpsichord. Bach's keyboard works and unaccompanied violin works inspired me here. Second, Variation 14 I feel has Bach's inspiration all over it. The violin parts are each playing separate distinct melodies in double counterpoint which trade parts on the repeat. The bass line follows a pattern that Bach has employed for the bass on a number of Violin concertos and lastly, the Harpsichord treble part is a mensuration canon based on one of the violin parts, with the keyboard part playing the melody 4x as fast with variations. Lastly on a play of numbers, number 14 was a very special number for Bach, and as a tribute, I've made this the 14th variation in my work. This was also a new variation I added this year (2023) as well.Vivaldi - My first musical love. I feel that I captured a little bit of his musical DNA in all my works and this piece showcases this. Vivaldi's works is what made me fall in love with Baroque music and I am indebted to him for the profound impact his works have had on my life.So here you go. 413 measures. My longest individual work to date. And because I love playing with numbers, I decided to release this to the world on my 41st Year, 3rd month. Enjoy!- Jose Bravo.

Score and parts. 14 pages. Kevin Riley #230651. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.621793). “Strangers By Nature†is a song by British singer-songwriter Adele, taken from her fourth studio album, 30. The song was written by Adele with Ludwig Göransson and serves as the album’s opening track. Its title was confirmed on November 1, 2021, when the album’s track listing was revealed online. Adele wrote “Strangers By Nature†with Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson, largely known for his work on film and television soundtracks. As the album opener, “Strangers By Nature†has been compared favorably to album closer “Love Is a Game,†with many music critics noting similarities between the songs and the work of Judy Garland. The 2019 biopic Judy, based on Garland’s life and career, served as an inspiration for the track, as did the 1992 film Death Becomes Her. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Adele revealed that, sonically, “Strangers By Nature†differed so much from her previous work that she almost considered giving it to another artist to sing or sample. “You know in the old movies when someone’s having a flashback or a memory to something else, and it’s almost like they’ll shoot a river or a pond and the water goes all ripply?†she said. “It reminds me of that.â€.

Grandfather's Clock (popularly known as My Grandfather's Clock) is a song written in 1876 by Henry Clay Work, the author of Marching Through Georgia. It is a standard of British brass bands and colliery bands, and is also popular in bluegrass music. The Oxford English Dictionary says the song was the origin of the term grandfather clock for a longcase clock. In 1905, the earliest known recording of this song was performed by Harry Macdonough and the Haydn Quartet (known then as the Edison Quartet). The song, told from a grandchild's point of view, is about his grandfather's clock. The clock is purchased on the morning of the grandfather's birth and works perfectly for 90 years, requiring only that it be wound at the end of each week. The clock seems to know the good and bad events in the grandfather's life; it rings 24 chimes when the grandfather brings his new wife into his home, and near his death it rings an alarm, which the family recognizes to mean that the elderly gentleman is near death and gathers by his bed. After the grandpa dies, the clock suddenly stops, and never works again. This famous Euphonium solo, with brass quintet, but also with Sam Harrill's percussive magic. Enjoy!

An epic choice for a recital or funeral. Fauré Background In the first place, Gabriel Fauré 1845 –1924) was a famous French composer, musician, and educator. Furthermore, his musical ideas influenced numerous 20th-century composers. Therefore, historians regard him as one of the leading French composers of his time. Famous Works Among his most famous compositions, by and large, are the Pavane, Elegie (op. 24), Requiem, Sicilienne, Nocturnes for piano and the songs Après un rêve and Clair de lune. Inasmuch as his early works are well-known and relatively easy to perform, Faure’s music seems to have become gradually more difficult during his later life. In other words, his later works are somewhat esoteric and complex. Early Home Life Fauré was in fact born into a well-cultivated family. His aptitude for music became particularly clear early on - when he was still a boy. Under these circumstances, his parents sent him to a music institution in Paris. Consequently, the training he received there prepared him for a career as a church organist and choirmaster. Middle Life It is important to realize that Fauré studied music composition with the French musical mastermind Camille Saint-Saëns, who became his lifelong friend.  Fauré eventually graduated from college and earned a living as an organist and educator. During this period, he had, on the whole, little time to compose. He consequently became more successful in his middle age, becoming organist of the Église de la Madeleine and director of the Paris Conservatoire. However, he still needed time on balance for composing. Therefore, given these points, he withdrew to the countryside during the summer to focus on composing. Later Life Fauré was, in the final analysis, recognized in France as the foremost French composer of his time. The French government held a national musical tribute particularly for him in Paris. The French President notably headed the ceremony. Elsewhere, on the contrary, Fauré's music was slow to become accepted, except of course, in England. Legacy Historians often describe Fauré's music in general as a transition between the end of Romanticism and the beginning of modernism. As an illustration, when Fauré was born, Chopin was still composing. However, by the time of Fauré's death, jazz and atonal music, in particular, had come to fruition. Fauré, by all means, suffered from increasing deafness in his later years. Some musicologists believe this to be indeed the cause of the esoteric nature of Faure’s final works.

Instrumental Duet,Piano Clarinet,Flute,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 4 - SKU: A0.971654 Composed by Jeffrey Hoover. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 64 pages. Musicart Publications #5370875. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971654). Abundance is a musical work about quality of life, composed by award-winning American composer Jeffrey Hoover. It is a fantasy in three movements. Sand Dance, Blue Dream of Astor, and North of the Beach all seek to capture the mood of exotic locations, places that are far from the mundane. Sand Dance is a dance of give-and-take, a dance of playfulness and life. Blue Dream of Astor is in reference to Astor Piazzolla, the Argentine classical composer who was inspired by the music of Tango, creating a lifetime of work rooted in Tango's sounds and rhythms. North of the Beach points one to a different location than what may be expected by a tourist. While visiting the beach may be the goal initially, north of the beach may be ultimately more rewarding to explore as part of a personal adventure. The score and parts in this edition are arranged to be printed double-sided, with correct page turns.Jeffrey Hoover's compositions- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the SMP Press Contemporary Composition Award, the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications, fellowships, and more than 25 commissions. He is a member of the ACME roster of Mu Phi Epsilon, recognized for distinguished achievement as a composer. One unique aspect of Hoover’s work is when he combines composition with his paintings, creating synergetic art that intrigues and captivate audiences and performers alike. His paintings are seen in exhibitions and in concerts where his paintings are projected while musicians perform his music. Hoover’s background as a performer includes both classical and jazz music, as saxophonist and conductor. His book The Arts and Society: Making New Worlds is published by Kendall Hunt Publishing.Hoover was born on September 11, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana. He holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts (Composition and Interdisciplinary Fine Arts) from Texas Tech University, as well as an M.M. and Bch.Sc. from Ball State University. His career in higher education has included both faculty and arts administration appointments. The ballet was composed in 1916–17 for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The ballet premiered on Friday, May 18, 1917, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, with costumes and sets designed by Pablo Picasso, choreography by Léonide Massine (who danced), and the orchestra conducted by Ernest Ansermet. The ballet was remarkable for several reasons. It was the first collaboration between Satie and Picasso, and also the first time either of them had worked on a ballet, thus making it the first time either collaborated with Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes. The plot of Parade incorporated and was inspired by popular entertainments of the period, such as Parisian music-halls and American silent-films.Much of the settings used in Parade's plot occurred outside of the formal Parisian theater, depicting the streets of Paris. The plot reproduces various elements of everyday life such as the music hall and fairground. Before Parade, the use of popular entertainment materials was considered unsuitable for the elite world of the ballet. The plot of Parade composed by Cocteau includes the failed attempt of a troupe of performers to attract audience members to view their show. Some of Picasso's Cubist costumes were in solid cardboard, allowing the dancers only a minimum of movement. The score contained several noise-making instruments (typewriter, foghorn, an assortment of bottles, pistol, and so on), which had been added by Cocteau (somewhat to the dismay of Satie). It is supposedthat such additions by Cocteau showed his eagerness to create a succès de scandale, comparable to that of Igor Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps which had been premiered by the Ballets Russes some years before, and caused no less scandal.Although Parade was quite revolutionary, bringing common street entertainments to the elite, being scorned by audiences and being praised by critics, nonetheless many years later Stravinsky could still pride himself in never having been topped in the matter of succès de scandale. The ragtime contained in Parade would later be adapted for piano solo and attained considerable success as a separate piano piece. The finale is a rapid ragtime dance in which the whole cast [makes] a last desperate attempt to lure the audience in to see their showThe premiere of the ballet resulted in a number of scandals. One faction of the audience booed, hissed, and was very unruly, nearly causing a riot before they were drowned out by enthusiastic applause. Many of their objections were focused on Picasso's cubist design, which was met with cries of sale boche. Petite Fille Americaine  (Young American Girl) is no 2 in the ballet, and includes some of the odd percussion : typewriter and gunshots, in addition to normal orchestral perc.It also includes the Ragtime Dance which became very popular in it's own right. The piece can be performed without percussion....but the percussion gives it an extra something!!

Many of their objections were focused on Picasso's cubist design, which was met with cries of sale boche.Prestidigitateur chinois (Chinese Conjuror) is no 1 in the ballet, and includes some of the odd percussion : sirens in addition to normal orchestral perc. The piece can be performed without percussion....but the percussion gives it an extra something!!
