Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.561517). “Korean Simple Suite†No.3 For Piano Trio Op.273D “Happy Wedding†It is a work depicting the wedding ceremony of the bride and groom held in a traditional Korean front yard and the surrounding scenery. as far as melody is concerned, the traditional five notes of Korea, “Do.re.mi.sol.la.†are mainly used. It consists of five movements as follows: 1. The Front Yard 2. Yeonji Gonzi 3. Joyful Dance 4. Waiting (Longing) 5. The Bride and Groom Movement 1, The Front Yard: In G minor in 8/12 time, it is a short song with a bright atmosphere. The front yard is a friendly place for villagers' gatherings and events. Movement 2, Yeonzi – Gonzi: In G major in 4/4 time, natural harmonics are used to describe the mysterious oriental atmosphere. The meaning of Yeonji Gonji is the red dot on the cheeks and forehead of the bride in a traditional wedding ceremony. Movement 3, Joyful Dance: 3/4 time B flat major, composed in ABA format, expressed the joy of dancing in Korea. Movement 4, Longing: In G minor in 6/4 time, we tried to express oriental waiting. Movement 5, The Bride and Groom : It is composed of 4/4 time and 6/4 time, and like the title of the title of Groom and Bride, it shows the contrasting character of liveliness and calm. It was composed in a rondo style that goes back and forth between D minor and F major. Attached musicfile is only 1st movement, it's just for a reference.

Folk songs are traditional songs that are passed down among the general public. It reflects the culture, customs, and emotions of each region and has diverse content and rhythm. “Monggeumpo Taryeong(It is also called “Jangsangot Taryeong)†is a traditional Korean folk song handed down from the Hwanghae region. “Monggeumpo†is a port, and the beach here is famous for its white sandy beaches, lush forests, and Rosa rugosa flowers. The content of this folk song consists of a sad melody and lyrics, and it contains the joys and sorrows of the fishermen's lives and the sorrowful feelings waiting for the safe return of a loved one who went out to catch fish. This music is composed in the A-B-A format. The sad part is located in the middle of the music, and the beginning and end parts were composed in an exciting atmosphere. It is usually played to the traditional Korean “jungmori†rhythm, which is also quoted throughout the piece. The attached music file was played on the violin and only the first part was played. This is just for reference.

This piece captures the process of an eagle's rebirth after living for 40 years. It plucks out its weathered feathers and breaks its blunt beak. It then waits for new ones to grow. The piece captures the emotional aspects of the process, with a special emphasis on the difficulty of the decision to shed the old features. It approaches the end with a climatic tone to depict the famous flight of rebirth after the completion of the waiting period.The piece is appropriate for any attempt to audiovisually capture this natural phenomenon using a string and brass ensemble. However, the various emotions captured such as sadness, sorrow, tranquility and triumph qualify it use as background music in any audiovisual presentation with such emotions involved. This then is a classical representation of this incredible natural process.

This marvelous 1941 song was originally recorded as a big band/swing tune by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra and featured in the 1941 movie Sun ValleySerenade.  It was the first song to receive a gold record, presented by RCA Victor in 1942, for sales of 1.2 million copies. The song was an extended production number, and became the No. 1 song across the United States on December 7, 1941, and remained at No. 1 for nine weeks on the Billboard Best Sellers chart. It opens up with the band, sounding like a train rolling out of the station, complete with the trumpets and trombones imitating a train whistle, before the instrumental portion comes in playing two parts of the main melody. This is followed by the vocal introduction of four lines before the main part of the song is heard.  The main song opens with a dialog between a passenger and a shoeshine boy. The singer describes the train's route, originating from Pennsylvania Station in New York and running through Baltimore to North Carolina before reaching Chattanooga. He mentions a woman he knew from an earlier time in his life, who will be waiting for him at the station and with whom he plans to settle down for good. After the entire song is sung, the band plays two parts of the main melody as an instrumental, with the instruments imitating the WHOO WHOO of the train as the song ends. This is a very intriguing adaptation, with or without voice. The price indicated allows you to purchase ten (10) copies of the handbell version.

The splendor of the child, of the King of Israel but also the Light that a by now old Simeone begins to yearn to see at the end of his long life. The language deliberately alternates different stylistic features with one true goal: to exalt the Word, make it vibrate with expressiveness.

This composition was commissioned by the Ensemble de Bilitis, a Montreal based music ensemble consisting of a mezzo-soprano, a flute, and a piano. I asked my cousin, the visual artist and poet Patrick Michael Lachance, if he would write a poem for the occasion. His words inspire me, and I had already composed a work on one of his texts (see Sang d’encre). When he wrote the text, Patrick Michaël decided to step into the shoes of one who has lost his great love. The term Les heures bleues (or blue hours) refers to the wee hours of the morning when the sun begins to appear on the horizon. After many sleepless nights waiting for this lost love, despair quietly settles in. The piece is in four sections, each section corresponding to a stanza of the text. Each section begins with two ascending fifths in the piano, symbolizing the dawning of the morning.

Pearl is the only composition the composer has ever written about a person. He has written works that tell stories about people. He has dedicated compositions to people. He has been inspired by people, but never composed anything that represents someone's personality the way Pearl does. Composed in October 2005, this work is the musical painting of the woman who would become the composer's wife almost two years later. Each musical aspect of the two movements symbolizes a different characteristic of Pearl's personality. Woven into the music is her quiet, caring, devoted nature, her love for God, her passion for the things she believes in, her wisdom, her logical and analytical approach to life, and her care-free disregard for the pressures that force many other women to be less than true to themselves. All of these facets of Pearl are portrayed through symbolism, atmosphere, and mood. The first movement is best described as unfolding. In an unassuming way, the piece unfolds like a delicate blossom confidently moving from bud to full bloom. This unfolding represents the gradual discovery of the depth of a personality as a relationship grows. The second movement represents the patient waiting associated with allowing a relationship to grow and mature. The subtle use of silence is symbolic of this patience, and adds richness to the piece. The debut performance of this remarkable composition formed part of the October 2008 Faculty Recital at Rice University, Houston, Texas. Pearl is appropriate for college or professional level musicians. As a serious work, Pearl makes an excellent recital piece. The unusual brass trio instrumentation for this work is an added bonus and makes the piece ideal for integration in a brass quintet repertoire, as it provides a rest opportunity for the trombone and one of the trumpets.The MP3 in the sample is only the first movement.

Experiencing High Volumes (2014) triet 6 minutes Composed for the Severnside Composers Alliance’s second Three is the Magic Number concerts of contemporary piano triets at the Lantern, Colston Hall, Bristol in 2014, performed by Milena Zhivotovskaya, Rob Broomfield and John Pitts. This is pleasant, relaxing armchair music, which doesn’t actually get particularly loud. I have Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909) to thank for a motif that recurs through the piece – a short section of his Gran Vals, which you may recognise. I have omitted the last note of the original melody, which is actually an octave down from a more familiar version you may know. Before this motif made its way into this piece I had considered a title along the lines of Cycle of Thirds for harmonic reasons which may be obvious. But I put that idea permanently on hold after trying to get through to a utilities company. Grim (A0.939388). Watershed is a solo for low E double seconds written in the spring of 2021. With some motifs being written in 2016, this piece has been waiting a long time to be complete. The aesthetic is not of calypso or soca, but calm motions that flow like swirling water. The 7th chord motif is one that moves the work forward while still remaining harmonically stagnant, just like water flowing down a river. The glasslike water on top shows calmness and reflection, while the water below is moving and teeming with life. This is a reflection on the nature of life as a student, and is one last effort to find stasis in turbulence. This was my first solo pan work written.
