Small Ensemble,Strings Bass Guitar,Cello,Drum Set,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.845978 By OneRepublic. By Brent Kutzle, John Nathaniel, and Ryan Tedder. Arranged by Kyle Pudenz. Contemporary,Pop,Rock. Score and parts. 56 pages. ViolinVagabond Music #5739325. Published by ViolinVagabond Music (A0.845978). Whether you are a tried and true OneRepublic fan looking to add to your ensemble's catalog, a struggling musician hoping for Better Days, or simply want to create a little social media buzz by playing that song that you saw in a commercial about a Jeep, or ESPN, or NBC... THIS is the chart you are looking for!Check out Dallas String Quartet performing this arrangement in their latest music video: https://youtu.be/BBEdsXRELywWhat you have here, ladies & gentlemen, is no half-baked attempt at a transcription that you might find illegally floating around the internet for a few bucks. This meticulously-arranged instrumental reimagining of OneRepublic's new smash is much, MUCH more. Your journey through the pop-string realm starts out with a silky, cinematic intro that will filter out the commotion of your futile existence, opening the curtains to reveal a plane of pure musical ecstasy. When the groove finally drops, and OH, does it DROP... you will not be able to stop yourself from foot-tapping, head-banging, or otherwise moving one or more body parts in a definitively rhythmic fashion. Hip rhythmic chopping grooves, fingerboard slaps, and a healthy dose of syncopation will take this sick beat to another level! And if that isn't enough to pique your interest, be on the lookout for some sexy reharminizations throughout the tune that will make you honestly wonder why those chords weren't in the song to begin with...Just when you thought this couldn't get any better: THERE IS A SOLO SECTION!! I've included some written solos, but if you prefer to improvise your own, that is allowed and encouraged. You can also vamp it if you need to kill a little time, or just want to show off for a few more bars. This version of the score includes optional RHYTHM SECTION PARTS for guitar, bass, & drum set in addition to the standard string quartet. To be clear, you do not have to perform this chart with bass and drums. I have gone to great pains to ensure that, with proper preparation, a string quartet performance will sound every bit as groovy as a full 7-piece band. So if you try to play this without a drummer and it doesn't go well, I don't want to hear about it. Go practice.Having a great ensemble may be the first step to successfully landing the big gigs, but having repertoire that gives your musicians the chance to shine will make you stand out from the rest. So don't settle for reading off of a piano score or hacking through questionably-obtained transcriptions when you can have the real deal. Fresh tunes, arranged by a real string player who has been in your shoes and knows how to wow the crowd! Thanks for visiting, and I hope this chart brings us all to some Better DaysPerformance time - 4:00 as written, longer if you vamp the solo, shorter if you cut the intro. Because I get it; we all need flexibility when wedding parties and/or emcee's are involved.Questions? Feel free to contact me via my website, www.kylepudenz.com/ or on the 'Insta @theviolinvagabond

Strauss - Zueignung from Acht Gedichte, op. 10 - Small Hand Edition (A major, medium key)

(+)
Medium Voice,Vocal Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1328293 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. 3 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #916286. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.1328293). The first of its kind, and the first entry in the Accessible Accompaniments library’s collection of small-hand-optimized song literature publications, this is Richard Strauss’s beloved “Zueignung,†from Acht Gedichte, op. 10 (1885), optimized (but not simplified) for the needs of collaborative pianists with small hands. “Small†is generally understood to be just an octave in span, with limited capacity to grab chord tones within a blocked octave aside from the occasional inner fifth. This edition was inspired by Boosey’s excellent small-hand edition of Frank Bridge’s “Love Went A-Riding†(erroneously labeled “simplified†on the front matter), which thins the large chords that would be problematic or impossible for a barely-an-8ve-reach collaborative pianist to play without adding musically inappropriate rolls or breaks, but also preserves the musical content and grammatically accurate voice-leading. Given that Strauss’s op. 10 collection is much more widespread on today’s concert programs than the Bridge, and given that average conservatory pianist heights and hand sizes have dropped significantly in the 20th and 21st centuries, the need for a similar adaptation in at least some of the op. 10 songs is obvious. Additionally, Strauss’s songs are often so orchestral in spirit—much more so than the Bridge—that the instinct to treat them as orchestral reductions to be adapted by each individual player should be as self-evident and considered as musically appropriate as it would be for any of Strauss’s beloved horn concerti. Performers should feel free to insert their own adaptations, additions, and omissions to this score as needed. The primary source material for this edition is Henle’s edition of the Acht Gedichte. However, any proprietary material that is not public domain (like their fingerings, front matter, and critical notes) is left out of this edition, leaving only what is public domain and edited by Ms. DiPaolo. Unreasonably large chords and arpeggio figures that would require being reachable by a larger hand have been condensed into figures more appropriate for the just-an-octave hand without sacrificing technique and excitement. This edition makes minor improvements to the engraving, like removing syllabic beaming in the voice and adding octave lines when appropriate. This edition also uses Accessible Accompaniments’ distinctive house style, marked by its visual beauty and ease of reading. While this song will be published in low, middle, and high keys for your convenience, please feel free to request another transposition if you are purchasing from a site that does not offer automatic transposition or you don’t see the key that you need. As the name says, Accessible Accompaniments is committed to accessibility—and that goes for singers, too!

Barabba Music #987269. Published by Barabba Music (A0.1404089). A Micro-opera by Jason V. BarabbaLibretto by Jason V. Barabba and Annie Jankowski after The Wolf and the Lamb by Aesop for Soprano, Baritone, Flute, Violin, Viola and CelloIt feels like our national political and social discourse has plummeted to new depths of dysfunction. No matter what your opinions are, you cannot fail to notice that we’ve lost something in our nation when our leaders cannot find a way to disagree with one another with civility. It is hard to feel optimistic, or even know what to do in the face of such petty ugliness that passes for political thought in this nation. For Tyrant I turned to the basic lessons found in Aesop’s fables, which are at heart lessons on being a good member of civil society…lessons that unfortunately I believe our nation needs to re-learn. Soon. The Wolf and the Lamb focuses on someone who consciously makes up lies to justify what he wants to do and feels alarmingly relevant today. Only lightly edited to turn the story into a dramatic scene, it is a very old story intended for the people of 2017.

"Three Labe Sonnets" for mezzo-soprano and piano

Small Ensemble Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.978194 Composed by Jason A. Heald. Contemporary. Score. 16 pages. Call of the Wild Publishing #6265333. Published by Call of the Wild Publishing (A0.978194). THREE LABE SONNETS for mezzo-soprano and piano is a collection of settings by Louise Labé, (1520-1566), a female French Renaissance poet. Labé was fluent in Latin and Italian, and a trained musician. She wrote twenty-four sonnets. TRANSLATION Sonnet VIII - I Live, I Die I live, I die, I burn with fire, I drown. It matters very little what I feel; All life is now too real, now too surreal; Joy comes and endless boredom weighs me down, And suddenly I laugh and then I cry; With grief and bliss I’m weeping for the past; Good feelings go away and yet they last, And suddenly I bleed and then I sigh. That’s how it goes. Strange, ever changing love Has worn me out. I wish I were removed From such a star-crossed fate! I need a truce With Lady Luck. Again and yet again, Her wheel is spinning madly to produce This wanton, wild, intense, exquisite pain. Sonnet XVIII - O Kiss Me O kiss me, kiss me, re-kiss me, and kiss! Be reckless, impudent, hot-headed, bold! O woo me! Pursue me! Kiss me like this: And I’ll give back fifty as hot as red coals. There, is it hurting? Come, let’s soothe the pain. I’ll give you sixty others just like these. And so we’ll kiss again and then again, While we enjoy each other at our ease. I know there’s fire within your unshaped clay, And so, allow me, love, to share my happiness: O let’s make burning passion rule today. I’m fond of doing what I love to do, Yet cannot feel supreme delight unless I have my other wild encounters, too. Sonnet XIV - As Long As Tears As long as tears can well up in my eyes I’m saddened that our nights are marked by pain. And now my voice expresses once again A plaintive melody I’ve improvised. As long as I can pluck the lute, I try To sing about your charms in my refrain. As long as I can think, my fevered brain Is burning with an ardent zeal. I cry And cry a hundred thousand times for you. But when I feel my whirling thoughts grow still, And when both hand and voice won’t work their will, Because your treachery is piercing through My heart, I’ll know there’s just one final way. I’ll ask for Death to darken that bleak day.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028053 Composed by Sarah Hersh. 20th Century,Contemporary. 14 pages. Burbury Lane Music #4276953. Published by Burbury Lane Music (A0.1028053). No clarinet duet has made me stop in rehearsal and just smile so much from how cool things sounded. - Marcus Moore, clarinetist on Duo MpingoDuo Mpingo is an approximately 6 minute crowd pleaser that is perfect for any occasion. It is a modern but accessible piece that is loosely based on the lifecycle of a mpingo, or African blackwood, tree. It is a relatively advanced piece but could be performed by advanced level students. Duo Mpingo can be programmed equally well on environmental-themed or any other type of concert.Program Note: When I began to research the mpingo (African blackwood) tree in preparation for writing this piece, I came to learn that it is a fascinating tree. It has the ability to survive fires, it does not reach maturity for about 70 – 100 years, and it improves soil fertility. However, it is endangered in several African countries due to illegal logging and over-harvesting, in part because of its beautiful dark heartwood. The outside of the mpingo tree looks like any other tree with a light brown color; the inside, however, is a gorgeous, dark brown-black color – a color you have seen if you’ve ever seen a clarinet, as clarinets, along with other western instruments, are made out of the dark heartwood of the mpingo tree. I had never stopped to think about why wooden clarinets have such a dark color instead of what one typically thinks of as a wood color. I was astonished by the hidden beauty of this tree and what secrets lay inside.Duo Mpingo is somewhat programmatic in that it loosely chronicles the imagined life of a mpingo tree. There is a short section close to the middle of the piece (the inner part of the piece, if you will) that is meant to evoke the beautiful, mysterious, endangered dark heartwood of the mpingo tree. The direction to the performers for this section is solemn, prayer-like, reverential, which is how I feel we should look at every tree – not as something in our way that needs to be cut down, but with reverence for the amazing living things they are.Duo Mpingo was commissioned and premiered by Daraja Music Initiative and Clarinets for Conservation to promote a sustainable planet. This recording is by members of Terminus Ensemble, Marcus Moore and Lauren Murphy. To hear the entire piece, please visit www.sarahhersh.com.The composer is a member of ASCAP and may be reached at www.sarahhersh.com or sarahhershcomposer@gmail.com.

Instrumental Duet,Pedal Harp,Steel Pan - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1434595 Composed by Cameron Duncan. 21st Century,Chamber,Christian,Praise & Worship,Religious. 30 pages. Cameron Duncan #1014719. Published by Cameron Duncan (A0.1434595). Provision is a duet for pedal harp and tenor steel drum. The piece is inspired by God's provision for my wife and I, always taking care of us in times of need. The steel pan is representative of us. Searching, filled with doubt and anxiety about the future, and jumping to conclusions. The harp is representative of God's provision. The pan learns to listen, emulate, and look more like the harp's material more and more over time, ultimately finding peace and assurance. The difficult situations never leave, but neither does hope. God has provided for our physical, financial, and emotional needs, to be sure, but he also provided His Son as Savior and Counselor to us in every moment of every day. This is provision beyond words, beyond comprehension, and well beyond what this piece can say. I truly hope you enjoy this piece and give glory back to God for his provision.

Fugue: "Wear Pearls and Smile" (A Pairing with Beethoven's Symphony #2) - Timpani

Percussion Solo,Timpani - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018935 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 3 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6072973. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018935). Fugue: Wear Pearls and Smile is, on the outset, a fast, rambunctious adventure for many voices playing at the same time. It was conceived as a pairing for the equally vivacious second symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven–his 250th birthday is this year–but can stand on its own as one of my hardest, most challenging works to cook up.This piece is dedicated to those forced to appear positive when internally they’re falling apart. The title is inspired by a quote that’s been with me for a while, Why is it that men can be bastards and women must wear pearls and smile? by Lynn Hecht Schafren, the celebrated American jurist famous for campaigning for gender equity in courts. I’m taking the quote out of its initial context, but the power of that quote, for me, exemplifies how hard it is to maintain a sense of emotional decorum and dignity when you’re authentically a hot mess. And what’s more of a musical hot mess than a fugue? There are two realities to this piece. I’ll quote Dmitri Shostakovich, from his autobiography: The rejoicing is forced, created under threat, […] It’s as if someone were beating you with a stick and saying, ‘Your business is rejoicing, your business is rejoicing,’ and you rise, shaky, and go marching off, muttering ‘Our business is rejoicing, our business is rejoicing.’ On the one hand, it is insincere happiness, cloying perhaps. But the other truth, I’ll quote Oscar Hammerstein II, from The King and I: While shivering in my shoes / I strike a careless pose / And whistle a happy tune / And no one ever knows, / I'm afraid. I forced myself, against all impulses of my current being, to forge happiness. This piece, with its origin being a mental puzzle (fugues are puzzles), it became a construct where I could lift myself up and regain a sense of purpose. Therefore, it is invented–out of a literal need to survive–pure, genuine happiness.Future Performances: If you are interested in performing this work, please e-mail me.ABOUT THE COMPOSER: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Instrumental Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1349364 Composed by Christopher Wilson. Arranged by Christopher Wilson. 21st Century,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Traditional. Individual part. 4 pages. Christopher Wilson #934114. Published by Christopher Wilson (A0.1349364). Here is a fresh, fun and entertaining Theme and Variations on Two National Anthems - New Zealand and United Kingdom to challenge Grade 8+ players. It commences with a whizzy Toccata to get the audience in the mood before announcing the Themes. These lead to a set of Variations, which includes one where the player will need a plunger mute along with ad libitum pitch bends and growling to create a somewhat inebriated feel, all leading to the last energetic movement. When entertaining children or in a less formal setting, the composer has often described each variation, such as Pagliacci (Clown), Jumping Bean, Tarantella and Late for Dinner. The composer invites the player to play straight through or be as entertaining as you want. This piece serves as a great concert or audition item. Enjoy!

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.996130 Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by Erik Cole. Romantic Period. 55 pages. Erik Cole #4793093. Published by Erik Cole (A0.996130). This is a transcription of the complete Pictures at an Exhibition for double reed choir. It is all in the original keys and based on the well-known Ravel orchestration, which is quite difficult. As a result, this arrangement is even more challenging. It is designed with at least 2 players per part in mind, and all of the oboe and bassoon parts are divisi throughout. The attached MP3 recordings are multi-track recordings of me playing all the parts. This was, by far, the most daunting recording I have put together for any of my arrangements, and I apologize for any minor imperfections in timing or pitch. In many places, this really stretched the limits of what I am capable of on bassoon. The original orchestration for this very famous movement is enormous. As a result, it's exhausting to play a reduced transcription, cause, except for the chorales, I pretty much needed all the instruments all the time. It's especially exhausting if you've played the whole rest of the piece first. That aside, I think this does a pretty good job of recreating the Ravel orchestration.
