Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1510918 Composed by William Ortiz. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Latin. 52 pages. William Ortiz #1086135. Published by William Ortiz (A0.1510918). “Nueva York Tropical”, for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Percussion, Violin, Violoncello and Piano, is a vibrant musical work that fuses popular music elements of Latin influences, evoking the energy and diversity of New York City. Inspired by the rich cultural tapestry of the city’s Latinx communities, this composition brings together the driving beats of salsa, the syncopated grooves of Hip-Hop, and the sweet, nostalgic melodies of song and bolero, all underpinned by modern harmonic structures and atonal passages. It is an exploration of dance. Beyond its rhythmic celebration, “Nueva York Tropical” also carries a message of social consciousness. It draws attention to the challenges faced by Latino communities, in the struggles of gentrification. The composition seeks to embody the resilience and spirit of these communities, when the musicians are called upon to chant “Shelter the community for free” repeatedly in protest mode. Through its infectious rhythms, bold atonal sections, and idyllic melodies, the piece becomes both a tribute and a call to action for social justice thru music. In “Nueva York Tropical”, the music doesn’t just invite you to sway, to dance – it also invites you to reflect, to think and to recognize the vibrant contributions that pop culture can instill in contemporary classical music.

Rhythm Section Voice (SATB) - Level 4 - SKU: A0.888051 By Vanessa Williams. By Chick Corea. Arranged by Darmon Meader. Contemporary,Jazz. Vocal Jazz Ensemble. 46 pages. New York Voices #6069673. Published by New York Voices (A0.888051). As recorded by New York Voices on their 2019 Reminiscing in Tempo CD, this is the Chick Corea, Neville Potter classic jazz composition done NYV style! This arrangement grooves in 7/4 and then moves to big fat 4/4 chorus sections. There is a nice female lyric solo, and either a Piano or Guitar solo as well. The PDF download includes: SATB octavo, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums and Full Score. Rhythm section parts are not fully notated, but well marked with a combination of notes, chord changes and rhythms. This is an exciting option for a more advanced vocal jazz ensemble.Note: You are allowed to print as many copies of the SATB octavo as needed for your ensemble, and can keep this title in your virtual library for future use. Please do not share this PDF with any other organization.Rehearsal part tracks and Music Minus One tracks are available via the NYV website (www.newyorkvoices.com).

Soprano voice solo, SATB choir, flute and piano (ad lib.) - Moderately Difficult - SKU: MQ.7542-E Composed by Derek Healey. Instrument part. 13 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #7542-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.7542-E). English. These songs are dedicated to William Osborne. The title Three Sacred Songs: was given to these pieces rather than the more usual terms anthem or motet because of the strongly secular presence in the texts. The songs were written over a period of some eighteen months. The Shepherd Lad was finished on February 29, 2008. The Round Day and Magdalene’s Song were completed in Brooklyn on June 11, 2009, the music having been originally sketched-out on Christmas Day and Boxing Day 2008, at Putnam Valley, New York. In the first song, The Round Day, the singer hears the voice of the Blessed Virgin Mary as she sings to the glory of God throughout the day. The text was written on June 7, 2008. In The Shepherd Lad, the Spanish mystic Saint John of the Cross describes a shepherd lad’s (Jesus’s) love for a shepherdess (the Church) and how another (the Devil) tempted his love away. Heartbroken, the shepherd climbed a tree, “And threw wide his arms in sweetest charity, Since by His Shepherdess He was forsaken.†The original Spanish text was translated and adapted into Villanelle form by the composer in early December 2004. The text of Magdalene’s Song describes the feelings of a mystic, or a devotee of Jesus, inspired by the fresh beauty, grace and power of the Lord of creation. The main body of the text is given to a soprano solo. The text was written on April 27, 2008. These sacred songs were conceived as being performed either as a set or individually. The composer had secular ensembles in mind, such as college or concert choruses, but these songs may, of course, also be performed in a liturgical setting. The accompanying flute provides introductions, interludes and codas throughout the set and, on a few occasions, plays with the voices. The piano part is ad lib. (optional).

Regis Bookshar #6636667. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.814000). Violin Octet - Intermediate - . This arrangement of Silent Night, or in German, Stille Nacht, would be a wonderful addition to any music library and could be performed for Christmas concerts, recitals, and, especially, church services. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (11 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Silent Night is probably the most popular Christmas carol ever written. It was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr and was first performed on Christmas Eve at St. Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, a small village in present-day Austria. A young Catholic priest, Father Joseph Mohr, had written the poem, Stille Nacht, in 1816 and had gone to Oberndorf in 1817. The melody was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber, schoolmaster and organist in the nearby village of Arnsdorf. On Christmas Eve, 1818, Mohr brought the words to Gruber and asked him to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for that night's mass, after river flooding had possibly damaged the church organ. The church was eventually destroyed by repeated flooding and has since been replaced with the Silent-Night-Chapel.According to Gruber, Karl Mauracher, an organ builder who serviced the instrument at the Oberndorf church, was enamored with the song, and took the composition home with him to the Ziller Valley in Tyrol, Austria. From there, two traveling families of folk singers, the Strassers and the Rainers, included the tune in their shows. The Rainers were already singing it around Christmas, 1819, and once performed it for an audience that included Franz I of Austria and Alexander I of Russia. They also gave the first performance of the song in the United States in New York City in 1839. By the 1840's, the song was well known and was reported to be a favorite of Frederick William IV of Prussia. During this period, the melody changed slightly to become the version that is commonly heard today. The version of the melody that is generally used today is a slow, meditative lullaby, or pastoral, differing slightly from Gruber's original which has a moderate tempo. The song has been translated into about 140 languages and has been recorded by many singers across many music genres. The version sung by Bing Crosby in 1935, has sold over 10 million copies as a single. In this arrangement of Silent Night, Regis Bookshar has kept the basic form of this familiar Christmas carol, but has also included a descant during the third verse. Also, in addition to this version for a Violin Octet, there are other arrangements of Silent Night available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. There are Quintets and Octets readily available for purchase. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that might also suit your needs.I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a wide variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this wonderful arrangement of Silent Night will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Regis Bookshar #6533949. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813839). Largo (from Symphony No. 9 in E minor) (From the New World) (Db) (Viola Quintet) - Intermediate - . This marvelous arrangement of the Largo, based on the second movement of Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services, especially Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (18 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (subtitled From the New World and popularly know as the New World Symphony), was composed by Antonin Dvorak in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 16, 1893 and has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. The second movement of the symphony, upon which this arrangement is based, is marked Largo, and begins with a harmonic progression of chords which is then followed by a solo instrument playing the famous main theme.Dvorak was interested in Native American music and the African-American spirituals he heard in North America. While director of the National Conservatory he encountered an African-American student, Harry T. Burleigh, who sang traditional spirituals to him. Burleigh, later a composer himself, said that Dvorak had absorbed their spirit before writing his own melodies. Dvorak stated:    I am convinced that the future music of this country must be founded on what are called Negro melodies. These can be the foundation of a serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States. These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil. They are folk songs of America and your composers must turn to them.He further explained how Native American music influenced his symphony:  I have not actually used any of these (Native American) melodies. I have simply written original themes embodying the peculiarities of the Indian music, and, using these themes as subjects, have developed them with all the resources of modern rhythms, counterpoint, and orchestral colour. In 1893, a newspaper interview quoted Dvorak as saying, I found that the music of the negroes and of the Indians was practically identical, and that the music of the two races bore a remarkable similarity to the music of Scotland. Most historians agree that Dvorak is referring to the pentatonic scale, which is typical of each of these musical traditions.Dvorak was influenced not only by music he heard, but also by what he had seen, in America. He wrote that he would not have composed his American pieces as he had if he had not seen America. It has been said that Dvorak was inspired by the wide open spaces of America, such as the prairies he may have seen on his trip to Iowa in the summer of 1893. Notices about several performances of the symphony include the phrase wide open spaces about what inspired the symphony and/or about the feelings it conveys to listeners. The theme from the Largo was adapted into the spiritual Goin' Home (often mistakenly considered a folk song or traditional spiritual) by Dvorak's pupil, William Arms Fisher, who wrote the lyrics in 1922. Regis Bookshar thought it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to this version for a Viola Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection which are readily available for a wide variety of instrumental.

Also, in addition to this version for a Brass Octet, consisting of 4 Trumpets and 4 Trombones, there are other arrangements of Silent Night available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. There are Quintets and Octets readily available for purchase. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition.
