Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Baroque Period, Christian, Classroom, European, Easter. Score, Set of Parts. 10 pages. Published by KrahenfuBlieder
Item Number: S0.1045365<br> <br> This instrumental quartet version was created with ensemble practice in mind for beginning music school students who want more contact with baroque music, ideal also for liturgical performances in churches, since it is a sacred work. This version lasts 3:19 minutes with the original melody adapted with the harmony divided between the voices of the performers.<br> <br> Jesu joy of man's desiring or Wohl mir, daß ich Jesum habe (I am happy to have Jesus) is a chorale from the cantata 147 "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben" or "Heart and mouth and deed and life" from the B. W. V 147 catalog composed by Johann Sebastian Bach around 1723, where the same music in different stanzas of a chorale closes both parts of the cantata.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,English Horn,Flute - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1375473 Composed by W.A. Mozart, J.S. Bach, W.F. Bach. Arranged by Daniel Kaplan. Baroque,Chamber,Classical. 221 pages. Daniel Kaplan #959960. Published by Daniel Kaplan (A0.1375473). As part of a campaign to enrich the woodwind quintet repertoire, Kaplan has arranged for woodwind quintet the six preludes and fugues for string trio by Mozart (based on fugues, and some preludes, by J.S. and W.F. Bach, with the addition of four original preludes by Mozart). Around 1782 (as recounted by Mozart in a letter to his father), Mozart used to attend Sunday musicales at the home of Baron van Swieten, who required Bach and Handel to be played by all. Presumably it was to comply with the Baron's wishes that Mozart created these arrangements plus original preludes. The arranger surmises that Mozart's immersion in Bachian counterpoint influenced his own works, which increasingly featured interesting, elaborate, musically and emotionally exciting fugues (such as those in the K.387 string quartet, the Jupiter Symphony, and the Requiem). Given Mozart's genius, it is not all surprising that the fugues he selected are all of great musical interest.Note that in arranging string music for woodwinds, one often finds the English Horn better suited to the tessitura than the oboe. The main challenge is to share the string parts among the wind instruments in such a way as to permit the players to breathe. This the arranger has done, but welcomes feedback from players.

Score and parts. 5 pages. Duquesnel Music Publishing #6630965. Published by Duquesnel Music Publishing (A0.774290). Peggy's unique arrangement of this classic hymn combines with J.S. Bach's 2-part Invention # 13 in Am is fresh and inspiring and a new approach to this traditional piece. The solo piano arrangement is suitable for intermediate level pianists and great for church services, memorials concerts and recitals. I've enjoyed playing the music of J.S. Bach since my early years. One day I was studying Bach's Invention #13 and was inspired to combine it with the popular hymn, Praise God From Who All Blessings Flow, also know as the Doxology. Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria for Baritone Horn & Piano

Baritone Horn TC/Euphonium,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552852 Composed by Bach-Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Contemporary,Easter,Wedding. Score and individual part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3491315. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552852). Schwencke There are two popular versions of the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria to consider. Firstly, we have the version that exactly follows the harmonic scheme set forth by J. S. Bach in his Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Secondly, we have the arrangement introduced by the Choirmaster Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke in 1783 that introduces a controversial added measure designed to intensify the harmony in measure 27. Both versions employ the melody that Charles Gounod provided as an overlay to the Bach harmony. In either case, the convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide options for extended performance. The duration with the repeat runs about 4:50. This arrangement follows the original Bach prelude and so excludes the extra measure that Schwencke introduced in 1783. If you prefer the extra measure, please see Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria, Schwencke version for Baritone Horn & Piano, S0.661783. Ave Maria Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. The progression is from Bach’s Prelude No. 1 from Well-Tempered Clavier I. This version, as well as Schubert’s version, have become essential items at weddings, masses, and funerals. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created an engaging new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV. Â

Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549846 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Concert,Easter,Sacred,Standards. Score and individual part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3554877. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549846). Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the voice is calling us) from Cantata BWV 140. Duration: ca. 4:00, Score: 6 pages, solo part 1 page, piano part: 4 pages. Program this for church services during the Easter season, weddings, or as a recital encore.Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) also known as: Sleepers Awake Bach composed his church cantata Wachet auf (BWV 140) as part of his second annual cantata cycle covering the entire annual church calendar. It is based on the hymn of the same name by Philipp Nicolai (1599). The hymn text covers the readings for the 27th Sunday after Trinity. Bach designed the cantata in seven movements, setting the stanzas in various forms. Among these forms are the chorale fantasia, the chorale prelude, and a four-part chorale. He casts the new lyrics as recitatives – in a manner similar to the opera. Fourth Movement Bach writes the fourth movement, Zion hört die Wächter singen (Zion hears the watchmen singing), in the style of a chorale prelude with the chorale phrases performed as a strict cantus firmus. The phrases seem to enter at times erratically against the famous lyrical melody. The violins play this melody in unison as a foil against the cantus phrases. The violin melody is so independent and complete that when the cantus melody appears it catches the listener at times totally off-guard. Bach later transcribed this movement for organ (BWV 645). This transcription became No. 1 of the Six Schübler Chorales. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. Score and individual part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3554879. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552247). Score and individual part. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #3468784. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549233). J. S. Bach BWV 508. This arrangement features a specially revised custom accompaniment part that avoids unwanted collisions with the contrabassoon and revoices chords to avoid awkward doublings and other voice-leading problems. It accentuates the solo part very nicely. Bist du bei mir Bach adapted this aria from a lost Stölzel opera called Diomedes. He changed the original orchestral instrumentation to soprano, strings, and continuo.  He also modified the voice-leading making it sound more like a Bach composition. The work appears as BWV 508 No. 25 in the Anna Magdalena Notebook No. 2.  Source Only a few remnants of the original opera have survived. Historians speculate that Anna Magdalena got the song from the Leipzig Opera after the bankruptcy of 1720. Chances are good, though, that the tune was a favorite of everyone in Leipzig at the time.  Lyrics When thou art near, I go with joyTo death and to my rest.O how joyous would my end be,If your fair hands      Would close my faithful eyes. - Unknown Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Contents: Praeludium, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuet I, Menuet II, Gigue. Johann Sebastian Bach's Partita No. 1 in B-flat Major, BWV 825, is a highly significant and influential work for several reasons: It is part of Bach's monumental Clavier-Übung (Keyboard Practice), a collection of some of his greatest keyboard works published in 1731. The Partitas were groundbreaking compositions demonstrating Bach's mastery of counterpoint, harmony, and keyboard technique. Bach referred to the Partitas as his Opus 1, indicating their importance as his first major published keyboard work aimed at refreshing the spirits of music lovers. The Partita No. 1 was the first of the set, published in 1726 and dedicated to a newborn prince. The work expanded the traditional Baroque Partita form by adding a Prelude and two Minuets, showcasing Bach's innovative compositional approach. Each dance movement is a masterful example of its style, from the virtuosic Praeludium and Gigue to the expressive Sarabande. It profoundly influenced subsequent composers and established Bach as a keyboard music pioneer. The Partitas' technical demands and musical depth set new standards for the genre. So, Bach's Partita No. 1 is a seminal work that exemplifies his genius as a composer, innovator, and keyboard master, making it one of the most important compositions in the Baroque era and the history of Western music.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1401651 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards,Traditional. 70 pages. Jmsgu3 #984834. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1401651). Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 is significant for its composition and structure. It features nine solo strings divided into three groups of violins, violas, and cellos, showcasing a colorful instrumentation and demanding performance requirements. The concerto opens majestically with distinct groupings of soloists by instrument, maintaining these divisions throughout the movement with moments of independence for each soloist. The closing movement, a vigorous allegro, follows a similar pattern with the nine players divided by instrument. Additionally, the concerto includes a two-note adagio cadence where musicians were intended to improvise a link between the outer movements. This concerto is a prime example of the Baroque concerto style. It demonstrates Bach's mastery in creating intricate and harmonious compositions that challenge performers while showcasing the beauty of different instruments working together harmoniously. The historical context of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos is rooted in the Baroque era and Bach's circumstances. Composed around 1711-1720 and dedicated in 1721 to Christian Ludwig, the Margrave of Brandenburg, these concertos were a collection of six concerti grossi that showcased a balance between various groups of soloists and a small orchestra. Bach's decision to compile these concertos was influenced by his need for employment and his encounter with Christian Ludwig, who commissioned several works after being impressed by his performance in Berlin around 1719. Despite Bach's hopes for a position at the Brandenburg court, the Margrave did not pay for the work, possibly because the pieces were revisions of earlier compositions rather than new creations specifically for him. Moreover, the Brandenburg Concertos exemplify the concerto grosso genre popular during the Baroque era, featuring a more significant number of soloists than usual and expansive music that showcases a variety of instruments in different combinations. Bach's innovative use of instruments like trumpets, recorders, French horns, oboes, flutes, violino piccolo, violas da gamba, and harpsichord in these concertos highlights his creativity and mastery in composing intricate and diverse musical pieces. The historical significance lies in Bach's ability to blend different musical styles and forms while creating a set of concertos that music lovers cherish today.

BACH: Partita No. 3 BWV 827 Contents: Fantasia, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Burlesca, Scherzo, Gigue. Bach's Partita No. 3 in A minor, BWV 827, is an essential work in the composer's output for keyboard instruments. Here are some key points about this piece: It is one of the six partitas that Bach composed for harpsichord or clavichord, regarded as pinnacles of Baroque keyboard music. The Partita No. 3 consists of seven movements following the traditional partita structure: Allemande, Corrente, Sarabande, Burlesca, Scherzo, Gigue. The Burlesca movement is particularly notable, featuring rapid hand-crossing and a lively, humorous character unusual for Bach's works. The Sarabande movement is considered one of Bach's most profound and expressive, with its rich harmonies and emotional depth. The final Gigue is a tour de force of contrapuntal writing, with multiple melodic lines interwoven in a lively dance rhythm. With the other partitas, BWV 827 demonstrates Bach's mastery of various dance forms and his ability to elevate them into profound artistic statements. So, in summary, Bach's Partita No. 3 stands out for its structural complexity, emotional range, and virtuosic demands, cementing its place among the composer's most outstanding keyboard achievements.

Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards. 110 pages. Jmsgu3 #1019854. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1439906). BACH: Partita No. 4 BWV 828 Contents: Overture, Allemande, Courante, Aria, Sarabande, Menuet, Gigue. Bach's Partita No. 4 in D major, BWV 828, is an essential work for several reasons: It is part of Bach's Clavier-Übung I, a collection of keyboard suites that he published in the last 25 years of his life as a musical testament to convey his vision of music-making and composing. Unlike his earlier English and French suites, the Partitas in this collection are more severe, focusing on polyphonic structures that actively involve both the listener and performer. The Partita consists of seven movements, all in the key of D major, structured around Renaissance dance forms such as the allemande, courante, sarabande, minuet, and gigue. This instrumentation captures both the original medium for these dance sets as well as the Baroque style of Bach. Bach was well aware of his abilities as a composer, and he deliberately published these works with future generations in mind. The Partitas represent Bach's mature approach to keyboard composition, where he was less interested in dance rhythms and more focused on creating complex polyphonic structures. Overall, Partita No. 4 is an essential work in Bach's keyboard oeuvre, as it showcases his mastery of form and counterpoint while also reflecting his desire to create music that would endure.
