One of that set was called Roadside Inn, which I have arranged for Instrumental Solo with Piano Accompaniment. In keeping with the characteristics of the Romantic period my arrangement is full of contrasts and constant shifts between dynamics, articulations, and themes. I took themes and fragments of themes from the original and re-ordered them into a bit of a rondo form. There are interpretive marks in every measure making it a great piece for auditions to show your technique and interpretation. Not too difficult to play but sounds quite advanced when all details are observed. Another feature is the beautiful harmonic interplay between the solo and accompaniment. They are reminiscences of his childhood, seven selections of which have been beautifully scored for Euphonium/Tuba Quartet by Robert Coulter. The most well known of the movements is Tråumerei (Dreaming) and has been used in movies to portray love scenes because of its tenderness and beauty.The music is appropriate for advanced performers and the collection of 8 minutes contains some very sublime and poetic music.

The Fairy-Tale Narratives (Märchenerzählungen) for B-flat Clarinet (ad libitum Violin), Viola and Piano, Op. 132, belong to the few Schumann works that were composed, revised and published in a short time: composed in Düsseldorf, at beginning of October 1853, the new composition was already offered for publication to the Breitkopf & Härtel publishing house on 3 November and printed in February 1854. Composition and publication of the Märchenerzählungen were accompanied, though, by difficult times, the final days before the composer was admitted to the psychiatric clinic in Endenich. The work’s reception lies in the shadow of the last creative period: The pieces were associated with his life’s darker phases and were very little played. The Märchenerzählungen transmit Schumann’s single work for this unusual piano trio with viola and clarinet. The only well-known earlier example in this setting at that time is Mozart’s “Kegelstatt†Trio K 498 (composed in 1786). Schumann was certainly already acquainted with the work from his Leipzig years – it was played in one of the “quartet sessions†in 1829.

Robert Schumann's Concertstück, Opus 86 for Four Horns in F is a work of incredible genius, in that it combines virtuosity, energy, expression, lyricism and harmonic invention. Written during Schumann's most prolific period in 1849, it is a marvelous showpiece for the horn quartet and arguably has not ever been surpassed for its sheer excitement. German.At first described as a 'religious song' by Schumann, the motet 'Verzweifle nicht' could be heard with organ accompaniment for the first time on 4 July 1850 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the University's St. Pauli choral society in Leipzig. He wrote the organ version specifically for this performance for he had originally planned an orchestral accompaniment. That, however, could only be completed later and was eventually premiered in 1853. In a letter to Schumann, Herrmann Langer, the conductor of both world premieres, mentioned 'the wonderful effect which the same has produced' and that, to him, 'the motet was one of the most stimulating and inspiring creations in male-voice literature'.

Abendlied (Evening Song) is from a cycle of 12 piano duets, Op. 85, written in 1849, a particularly prolific year of composition for Schumann. The great Hungarian violinist Joseph Joachim took the final number, consisting merely of a completely unpianistic one-handed melody with chordal accompaniment for two hands, and arranged it for violin, oboe or flute. The present arrangement expands that list of instruments to include the Soprano Saxophone, in its infancy at the time the piece was composed. An alternate part for Alto Saxophone is also included. The soaring, free melody is reminiscent of Schumann’s Manfred music, written around the same time. This piece is very demanding in terms of breath control and phrasing. One of that set was called Roadside Inn, which I have arranged for Instrumental Trio. In keeping with the characteristics of the Romantic period my arrangement is full of contrasts and constant shifts between dynamics, articulations, and themes. There are interpretive marks in every measure as each part independently adds to the stunning polyphonic weaving. Not too difficult to play but sounds quite advanced when all details are observed. A great piece to show your musicianship as a group. To be played warmly and with passion to welcome people to your Roadside Inn. 3 minutes, 3 page score, 1 page @ partTemporary MIDI recording; a live performance will be much more expressive and free

She was the wife of violinist Joseph Joachim and friend to Clara Schumann and Brahms.The song, beautifully arranged by Elliot Chasanov for Trombone and Bass Trombone (Tuba) with Piano accompaniment, is subdued, haunting and very lyrical. The form is A-B-A with an agitated middle section returning to the mysterious quiet of the beginning.The almost 6-minute work is appropriate for moderately advanced performers.
