The Compositions 1960 are a set of pieces written in 1960 by composer La Monte Young. These pieces are unique in the sense that Young heavily emphasizes performance art, through extra-musical actions such as releasing a butterfly into the room or pushing a piano against a wall. History In 1959, while studying at Berkeley, Young traveled to Darmstadt to study with Karlheinz Stockhausen. During that summer, Stockhausen frequently discussed the music of American Composer John Cage. As a result, rather than gaining interest in Stockhausen's works, Young left Darmstadt having found inspiration in Cage's works. A year later in 1960, Young did indeed have the opportunity to study with Cage and Richard Maxfield in New York. During his studies, Young gave New York's first loft concert in Yoko Ono's loft. Some of the pieces that he performed would later become part of his Compositions 1960 Pieces Each piece has a unique set of instructions to be followed by the performer. These instructions may include the setting up of the piece, and what to do during the piece. Some of the pieces will even specify what the audience should do.

Released on 26 May 1967, it spent 27 weeks at number one on the Record Retailer chart in the United Kingdom and 15 weeks at number one on the Billboard Top LPs chart in the United States. It was lauded by critics for its innovations in songwriting, production and graphic design, for bridging a cultural divide between popular music and high art, and for reflecting the interests of contemporary youth and the counterculture. Its release was a defining moment in 1960s pop culture, heralding the Summer of Love, while the album's reception achieved full cultural legitimisation for pop music and recognition for the medium as a genuine art form. This is my arrangement of the opening number.for standard brass quartet: 2 tpts, tbn and tuba. Alt horn in F part for tbn. I have transposed from the original key of G to Eb to aid the brass players.. I have created a new ending for those brass quartets who wish to play the piece on it;s own, but also included the oruginal fade away ending which seques into the next track...with a little help.

The Marines’ Hymn is the official hymn of the United States Marine Corps and the oldest official song in the US Armed Forces, authorised for use by the Commandant of the Marine Corps in 1929. The lyrics for the hymn were written by an anonymous author prior to this and includes lines referencing famous battles such as “To the shores of Tripoli†referring to the First Barbary War and “The Halls of Montezuma†referencing the Battle of Chapultepec. The music, however, originates from the “Gendarmes’ Duet†from Offenbach's 1859 opera Genevieve de Brabant. Sammy Nestico, whilst best known as a composer, arranger, and conductor for the Count Basie Orchestra and as a prolific composer of television themes including shows such as M*A*S*H*, and Charlie’s Angels, was also the director of the U.S. Marine Band under both John F. We Can Work It Out is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, written by Paul McCartneyand John Lennon. It was first issued as a double A-side single with Day Tripper in December 1965. It also appeared on the 1966 US release Yesterday and Today. The release marked the first time in Britain that both tracks on an artist's single were promoted as joint A-sides.The song was recorded during the sessions for the band's Rubber Soul album. The single was number 1 in Britain (where it won the Ivor Novello Award for the top-selling A-side of 1965), the United States, Australia, Canada and Ireland. In the UK, it was the seventh highest selling single of the 1960s. We Can Work It Out is a comparatively rare example of a Lennon–McCartney collaboration from this period in the Beatles' career, in that it recalls the level of collaboration the two songwriters had shared when writing the group's hit singles of 1963. This song, A Day in the Life, Baby, You're a Rich Man and I've Got a Feeling, are among the notable exceptions. The Beatles included it in their concert set-list until their retirement from live performances in late August 1966. The single was the first example of a double A-side in Britain Its success popularised the format and, in giving equal treatment to two songs, allowed recording artists to show their versatility. The band's use of promotional films to market the single anticipated the modern music video. In the UK, Day Tripper / We Can Work It Out was the seventh highest selling single of the 1960s. As of December 2018, it was the 54th best-selling single of all time in the UK – one of six Beatles singles included in the top sales rankings published by the Official Charts Company.
