Essentially a 'long form' round, it takes three elements of Meghan Trainor's 'Dear Future Husband' and layers them up. As with singing any round, it provides great brain training and stretch for singers to concentrate and focus on their part and not be swayed by the multiple rhythms and notes moving around their part. The arrangement provides a structure but is designed to be explored and experimented with to see what works, ideal to build confidence for both group leader and singers trying something new together. A key chart showing four different keys has been provided with note range and starting notes should an alternative key be more suitable for your vocal group. Suggest using off-beat finger clicks or a metronome beat to keep time. Backing tracks may be available in future. The 5 ensemble parts serve as accompaniment to the vocals, and the Trombone 1 part has a more individual role in answering the vocals. None of the five trombone choir parts are very difficult, though the 4th part is a bit rhythmically persistent throughout. The key signature may pose a slight challenge for younger players. The higher vocal sub parts are rather taxing in the high range for sustained phrasingFlexibility: This arrangement will work in multiple contexts. A 5-part ensemble can accompany a vocal ensemble, or a full 8-part trombone choir is possible. The Bass Trombone part is well suited to be played by Tuba if desired. Additionally, this entire arrangement conforms to the original artist’s recording in Key and Form. Published by DML (A0.928258). Only You is a song written by English musician Vince Clarke. He wrote it while with Depeche Mode, but recorded it in 1982 after forming the duo Yazoo with Alison Moyet. It was released as Yazoo's first single on 15 March 1982 in the United Kingdom, and became an instant success on the UK singles chart, peaking at number 2. It was released again in 1983 in an a cappella version by the Flying Pickets and became the UK Christmas No 1 that year. Vince Clarke originally wrote the music for the song on a guitar, and transposed the riff into synthesizer notes. This is clear from the chord structure so I have arranged it using a constantly descending bass for the first two verses. For the final verse, to give a sense of drama which is clear from the lyrics, I have switched to a three fingered chord rhythm but kept elements of the descending bass. The little tune on the outro could be sung but if you have a second guitarist could also be played.

Truth be told, I used to direct a choir I founded (called the Orange Korale) and we were doing the Star-Spangled Banner for various MLB teams and knew eventually we'd need to sing the Canadian Anthem and finally had that chance for the Toronto team while playing here in the states and they loved it, and I think you will too.Wanting to keep it simple, I did not incorporate any French verse(s) so I hope you'll simply enjoy this simple but beautiful piece. Although it states written for SAATB, there is one place where the alto splits but only for a few notes. It is an easy arrangement but one that should be pleasing to all who hear it. This is a very easy chart to perform. Just tell them it was arranged by someone in one of the 'southern' provinces. I won't tell if you don't. :-).

It was published in Piae Cantiones, a collection of Finnish/Swedish sacred songs published in 1581. No music is given for the verses, but the standard tune comes from older liturgical books. It is sometimes entitled Gaudete, Christus est Natus. British folk rock group Steeleye Span had a hit in 1973 (No. 14, UK singles chart) with an a cappella recording of the song. Guitarist Bob Johnson had heard the song when he attended a folk-carol service with his father-in-law in Cambridge, and brought it to the attention of the rest of the band.(Unlike the album version which fades up slowly and fades down slowly, the single was at the same volume for the entire length of the song.) Since written for a community choir it is an easier version than S-SB (III) and is more on par with S-SB (I). Having said that, you will still find some interesting chordal voicings that will eventually please.The larger the choir, the better this arrangement sounds. But even if done by a small chorus, you will be pleased. Once again it goes outside of the 'traditional' melodic and harmonic ideas but not by much.
