ISBN 9790570484560.The Wounded Angel (2013) is written for piccolo, two flutes, alto flute and bass flute, and is dedicated to Christine Turellier, a professor of flute at the Lille Conservatory of Music (France) where the work was premiered. These pieces were inspired by a painting entitled The Wounded Angel (1967) by the visionary British artist Cecil Collins (1908-1990). His works have been the basis for a number of D'Angelo's compositions. For example, one of his latest pieces for orchestra takes its inspiration from Collins' painting The Angel of the Flowing Light (1968). In his extensive output the artist often used angels and fools as symbols of purity and wisdom. In the painting, the earthbound, winged, wounded angel is lying on its side with its eyes closed. Its colours blend in with the purplish colours of the earth. In the distance is a mountain shaped like a pyramid while the sky is filled with shades of orange. Just at the point where the mountain meets the bleak landscape we see the sun just rising. This angel has been injured and fallen to Earth and in its distress has to find a way of healing itself and ascending to its spiritual home. In this highly impressionistic piece the piccolo stands for the wounded angel. It has a three note motif and its wound is suggested by the semitone difference of the second note each time the motif is repeated. The piece is a voyage through all the states of mind the angel experiences. For example, there are moments of contemplation and peace where the alto and bass flutes play rocking rhythms in open fifths. The final bars of The Wounded Angel portray the gentle power of the angel to heal itself and return to the heavens. Here, following the motif of the gently rocking rhythms the piccolo plays two ascending fourths leading to a G sharp which has its resolution in the angels keynote A.

The clarinet quartet arrangement of Break Forth, O Beauteous, Heavenly Light, was made for the 2018 Holiday Contest Entry. Martin Luther developed the Lutheran chorale, a religious hymn sung in four-part harmony by the congregation as part of the service. Break Forth, O Beauteous, Heavenly Light was written by Johann Rist and Johann Schop in the mid-17th century, so that by 1734, when Bach included it in his Christmas Oratorio, it was well known to congregations. The harmonization, however, is Bach ‘s own. The arrangement remains faithful to the original facsimile of Bach. It is transposed for a modern clarinet quartet. Variations in loudness and the duration of musical notes are the basic elements to musical expression. A few interpretation symbols where added to shorten some of the notes. Breathing between music phrases is notated. and the final was stretched with one more bar for a ralentando effect. This details are only suggestions for an interpretation. The piece is appropriate for beginner students or amateurs and without any doubt very pleasant to listen when played by an experienced ensemble. We’re really excited to present our collection of sixty of the best-loved hymns ever composed, presented in three books. Arranged for violin, cello and piano they are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing. To make the music accessible to less experienced string players, the range of the notes has been kept fairly low so that many of the arrangements can be played in first position, though more experienced players would probably want to avoid open strings. The cello part does not follow the bass but instead plays an independent tenor line using to the mid to upper range of the instrument. The top note in the cello part is the F sharp above the bass clef. The piano part has been kept as straightforward as possible with the left hand playing the bass part. To extend the possible uses of this collection, there’s also a melody part printed in the bass clef, an octave lower than the violin part. This could of course be used for cello solo or indeed for any other bass clef instrument. Included in the 50-page PDF file is an optional bass part which follows the piano left hand and could be used for string bass or bass guitar. With such a small ensemble, a conductor is hardly necessary and to save on costs the pianist reads from the score. For this reason, the piano part in the score has been slightly enlarged. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CMF182). 9 x 12 in inches.In the vast body of work that Giacomo Puccini left the world, are his full -length operas, as well as three one-act operas, known also as Il Trittico. Suor Angelica is one of these one-act operas, having its premier at the Metropolitan Opera on December 14th, 1918.Puccini was a master composer, and builder of the dramatic melody. It was because of this, that his operas, and arias from his operas are still some of the most requested compositions of all time. In addition, the intermezzi to some of his operas, not only were used in the performances of these works, but were popular enough to be programmed separately into orchestral concerts.Puccini orchestrated this, mainly with strings in mind; very light use of woodwinds and brass, and no percussion. My selection of woodwind choir in this arrangement, had its own challenges for me. What sounds perfect for strings, doesn't necessarily sound perfect for woodwinds. How close to Puccini's score was I going to go? Puccini definitely wrote for the voice in mind, and that was my ultimate goal.
