Connie Boss #907356. Published by Connie Boss (A0.1318802). Everyone knows how special the star was for the birth of Jesus. The star guided many along the way to find the manger that Mary, Joseph and the newborn baby, Jesus were at. This cantata reflects the importance of the star during that time. Most of the songs have lyrics about the star.  The cantata starts off with Mary finding out from the angel that God chose her to bear his son - Ave Maria was redone for this advent moment. It keeps to the melody and Ave Maria words are still part of the lyrics. Some of the lyrics have the English translation in the song, while other lyrics are new for this Christmas song. The next song O Little Town of Bethlehem is where Mary and Joseph have to travel to pay their taxes and where   Jesus is born. This is where the star shines down for all to see.  This is the traditional song, but I have added extra lyrics at the end of each original verse. Next, the shepherds seeing the star decide to travel to Bethlehem. Pachelbel Canon is so iconic, but I have added lyrics from While Shepherds watched their flocks by night, Away in a Manger, What Child is This and The First Noel. The choir parts bring rich harmonies to the piece. The Angels said leave your sheep and leave your lambs. Rise up Shepherd and Follow. Now we are at the manger. I composed the song - A Little Baby. He was born to save us all. . Still, Still, Still “Tis the Night of Our Savior’s Birth has added lyrics to each verse that ties in with the original lyrics. The title of this cantata is They Saw A Star - this is from the song I composed with the same title. It not only brings in the shepherds, but also the Three Wisemen. To close out this cantata, I have used the lyrics from We Three Kings and the melody of Scarborough Fair. This arrangement has an ST duet with SATB choir parts with ahhs that sound very mysterious. It also does include parts for strings if you are lucky enough to have violins and a cello. The strings parts are the same as the choir parts, so it is perfectly fine to do this with just a choir.  I hope you enjoy singing and listening to this cantata—Connie Boss.

Consequently, this song became an integral part of Schubert's Song cycle. Therefore the cycle is called: the Lady of the Lake. In the poem, Ellen Douglas is the Lady of the Lake. The lake is probably Loch Katrine in the Scottish Highlands. First of all, Ellen goes with her father to stay in the Goblin's cave. They go because he earlier refused to join in a rebellion against King James. Roderick Dhu, the chief of the rebellious Alpine Clan, marches up the mountain with his army. But before the battle, he, first of all, hears Ellen singing. She is singing a prayer calling for help from the Virgin Mary. Schubert's piece was first performed at the castle of Countess Sophie Weissenwolff in Steyregg, Austria.  Schubert dedicated the arrangement to her, and as a result, she became famous as the lady of the lake.The incipit of Ellen's song is Ave Maria which is Latin for Hail Mary. It seems like this similarity led Schubert to adapt the melody to accommodate the Roman Catholic prayer Ave Maria. Consequently, the Latin version of Ave Maria finally became more famous than the original so that consequently many believe he wrote the Latin version first. Schubert Franz Schubert (1797–1828) was, in fact, a famous Austrian composer. Moreover, he composed during the late Classical and early Romantic periods. Schubert was comparatively prolific. He wrote more than 600 secular vocal works, seven symphonies, and, correspondingly, a massive amount of piano and chamber music. Critics agree, as a matter of fact, that his most famous works include his Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 (also known as the Trout Quintet), the Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D. 759 (Unfinished Symphony), the last sonatas for piano (D. 958–960), and the song cycles Die schöne Müllerin (D. 795) and Winterreise (D. 911). Education Schubert was furthermore a musical child prodigy. He studied violin with his father as well as piano with his older brother. In addition, when Schubert was eleven he studied at Stadtkonvikt school, where he became familiar with the orchestral music of Haydn, Mozart, and likewise Beethoven. In due time he left school and returned home where he studied to become an educator; nevertheless, he continued studying composition with Antonio Salieri. Performance Eventually, Schubert was admitted to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde as a performer. This appointment straightaway established his name in Vienna as a composer and pianist. Finally, he gave his only composition recital in 1828. He died suddenly a few months later probably due to typhoid fever. Legacy Schubert’s music was by and large underappreciated while he was alive. There were all in all only a few enthusiasts in Vienna. After he died, however, interest in his work in fact increased. Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms and other famous composers in due time discovered his compositions. The work was written in response to the wartime events of our time, and juxtaposes vocal movements based upon Latin prayers with purely orchestral sections (meditations on wartime subjects). The Latin prayers in this work consist of the Agnus Dei from the Roman Catholic Mass, a prayer which asks God for forgiveness of the 'sins of the world,' and two hymns to the Virgin Mary: Ave Maria and Ave Maris Stella. The concept of the Blessed Mother as the spiritual mother of all humanity is a powerful one which I believe touches us on a deep level. As children, our mothers give us guidance, tenderness, unconditional love and protection in a world where evil exists. In our time, horrific wartime events daily take their toll on innocent civilians, while motherhood is revered in all cultures. The current media call this style of music Spiritual Minimalism. This particular composition utilizes the centering 'ah' of Buddhism, the meditative resting periods of Zen, the plainchant of Christianity, the minimalism of New Age, and more. The lyrics quote only the first 3 phrases of the traditional Ave Maria text. These 6 words are in common across most usages regardless of region or religion or purpose and impart a broader blessing. These 6 words are interspersed throughout the piece with the Ave (Hail) high in the range for celebration, Gratia (Grace) mid-range for acceptance, and Dominus (God) low in the range for humility. The vocal range of the song is thus quite large - a full two octaves. The High version goes from a B flat below the Treble Staff to an A flat above the Treble Staff. The Low version (a third lower) goes from a low G to a high F. The accompaniment is a circling minimalist 2 chord ostinato for the entire piece. Whether for personal meditation or public performance, this piece will relax, focus, and recharge all who perform it and hear it. 2 pages, 3:45 minutes attached is a live recording of the High voice version with piano accompaniment; cello plays exactly the same part as the minimalist piano but the cello will give it a warmer sound than the piano.

StyleIt seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top.Revival Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century.
