Guitar - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1462024 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Danny Crocome. Contemporary,Instructional,Jazz,Pop,Rock. Guitar Tab. 1 pages. Danny Crocome Music #1040773. Published by Danny Crocome Music (A0.1462024). This info sheet shows guitarists how to play a 2-octave B Dorian Mode using octaves (playing two of the same note name, one octave apart, simultaneously). Playing melodies in octaves is a common stylistic choice in jazz and rock music, and is a great way to make your lead lines sound bigger and clearer. In standard notation and TAB, with fretting hand fingerings notated in the score.

String Ensemble - Level 4 - SKU: A0.826748 Composed by Bennie Maupin, Harvey Mason, Herbie Hancock, and Paul Jackson. Arranged by Bud Caputo. Contemporary. Score and parts. 23 pages. Bud Caputo #6703647. Published by Bud Caputo (A0.826748). Chameleon is a jazz standard composed by Herbie Hancock in collaboration with Bennie Maupin, Paul Jackson and Harvey Mason. The song has a characteristic bass line and is set to a funk beat. For the most part, it is built entirely on a two-chord vamp: I-IV in Bâ™ Dorian (Bâ™m7 and Eâ™7). The piece's signature 12-note bass line was played by Hancock on an ARP Odyssey. The piece is one of the most widely recognized jazz standards, and has become standard repertoire in many small jazz ensembles. The drum set will provide the true flavor. A Trombone Substitute for Horn is included.

Large Ensemble Cello,Clarinet,Flute,Soprano Recorder,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Recorder,Tenor Saxophone,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1028114 Composed by Robin Andrews. Celtic,Folk,World. Score and parts. 1 pages. Robin Andrews #3367015. Published by Robin Andrews (A0.1028114). A melody in the Lydian Mode written in Portugal. There's not many tunes written in the Lydian mode, so harmonising them presents an interesting creative challenge. The basic idea here is that the chords from a D major scale are used, but the home note is G. Also, the strong A-D cadence is lost, so we have to find another cadence which will provide a similar tension/release effect. In the Lydian mode this can be achieved with Bm-G, A-G or Em-G. One really interesting aspect of the Lydian mode in G is that Em is still the relative minor, except it comes out as Dorian. So if the B part of a tune tune moves to the relative minor as this one does, then it can be treated as an E Dorian tune in its own right.

Small Ensemble Trombone/Baritone B.C. - Level 3 - SKU: A0.784336 Composed by Joshua Hauser. Instructional. Score and parts. 38 pages. Slide Ride #5288665. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784336). 1 Octave Scale Studies in 15+ keys for 4-part ensembles of like or mixed instruments If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Donuts, if you make a mistake! The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent. As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.· Choose a tempo.· Choose a dynamic.· Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes. The variations are endless! If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys. All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy!

Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1504045). This work in the Dorian mode was originally a vocal trio (also available on this site as Before my gaze she stands and My love is far from here).I felt that an instrumental version would also work. The melodic parts intertwine and create hypnotic harmonies above the guitar ostinato.

Bassoon,Cello,Oboe,Violin,Voice - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1488216 Composed by Music: Alan Edgar and Trad. Lyrics: Alan Edgar, Sue Edgar, Alexander Pushkin. 20th Century,Folk,Thriller. 34 pages. Alan Edgar Ted Moon #1065102. Published by Alan Edgar Ted Moon (A0.1488216). RUSALKAS and MEN Soprano (mostly wordless, D up to A), Baritone (G# up to G), Oboe or Violin, and Cello or Bassoon. The instrument parts in the score are easily used for rehearsal on keyboard. Here are three songs about men's encounters with rusalkas (water-nymphs) in Slavic myth. Siren Song: a man describes his narrow escape from death. Lyrics by Sue Edgar. The Man’s melodies based on two Slavic folk tunes. The rusalka sings my own melody. King of the Underwater World: a very lucky man sings of his being favoured, made king and cosseted by a rusalka. He uses the Ukrainian dorian scale, the rusalka aeolian. Rusalka (Pусалка) by Alexander Pushkin: The baritone is the storyteller. For him I use D mixolydian alternating with b minor, but the rusalka mostly sings in half-whole octatonic. 26 minutes for all three songs.

Instrumental Duet Euphonium,Instrumental Duet - SKU: A0.784315 Composed by Joshua Hauser. Instructional. Score and parts. 41 pages. Slide Ride #3570015. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784315).  If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Don’t step in the holes!  I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent.  As with those exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like. • Choose a tempo • Choose a dynamic. • Choose an articulation/style.  One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.  Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping 5 lines to play the same set in a new key.  If you want an additional challenge in terms of range, play them in different octaves to expand the set.  Additionally, you can change the Key. Play them in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes.  The variations are endless!  All Donut Etudes with the same version number are compatible so you can play them in mixed duets with one person on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2.  Enjoy!
