Cornucopia is the recent single release by The Candlelight Guitarist...featuring an ensemble of guitar, mandolin, string bass, and percussion, in a contemporary bossa-nova style. The instrumental parts for guitar, mandolin, and BASS (this part) are each available here separately. (Renown percussionist Ms. Bobbye Hall recorded using a bass part for her reference.) These instrumental parts are fairly straightforward (easy to intermediate) professional jazz level. The video (linked herein) shows each performing playing their respective parts. Brad plays both the classical guitar part and mandolin part. The string bassist is Frank Sanchez (original bassist for Weird Al Yankovic), and the percussionist is Ms. Bobbye Hall (with dozens of hit songs to her credit, with many famous artists).ABOUT: Bradley Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. Brad is also the classical guitarist for Disney's Princess Breakfast Adventuire at Disneyland's Grand Californian Resort. A visual stereogram represents a 3-D image while looking though a pair of 2-D images. There are special viewers that are used to give this effect where two images viewed through the special device can give a 3-D or stereographic effect. Brubeck's Stereograms for Bass Clef Instruments are musical versions of the graphic form. Brubeck uses familiar folk melodies to create his Stereograms and adds jazzy twists to many of them. The musical version may contain two or three individual parts within a single melodic line, thus the musical 3-D Stereogram is created. Bach’s unaccompanied works have underlying multiple parts in them and Brubeck has been inspired by the Master to create a similar texture in these works. They are suitable encore pieces or performance pieces, alone or grouped into ad hoc suites. Brubeck’s music requires rhythmic accuracy and multiple tonal colors, and are especially useful as sight reading tools to keep the performer sharp and on his/her toes. He has also added octave suggestions to allow them to be playable by the widest array of bass clef instruments Each Stereogram is dedicated to a special musical hero in Brubeck’s life. Excellent as study etudes or sight-reading pieces, Stereograms can be performed/practiced by Trombonists, Bass Trombonists, Tubists and Euphoniumists. Donuts, if you make a mistake!  The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes! I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent.  As with those exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.• Choose a tempo• Choose a dynamic. • Choose an articulation/style.  One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.  Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping 5 lines to play the same set in a new key.  If you want an additional challenge in terms of range, play them in different octaves or change the clef and key signature to expand the set. For example, if you play the F Major example in Tenor Clef, change the key signature to C Major and you have a version that is based an octave higher than the C Major version as written later. Additionally, you can change the Key. Play them in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes.  The variations are endless!  All Donut Etudes with the same version number are compatible so you can play them in mixed duets with one person on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2.  Enjoy!

Its called Coffee because its perky! OK, it was inspired by the Maxwell House ijngle. And if you don't remember it, ask or Google it. It was written for synthesizer, but ten one day I thought ... How about 4 double basses? And later I thought, How about 2 double basses and two fretless basses? And it was good. The drum machine part was left over from the synth days, but I like it. I will upload the drums only mp3, so you can play along. The advanced rating is mostly because the first part goes up to the A above the octave G. The ranges for the other parts are reasonable. The tempo can be 100-120, although 90 might swing more..Enjoy. And directors: if you have 4 basses, here's a chance for them to show off. They'll love it! Or even perhaps 2 cellos and 2 basses! Have fun!
