The clarinet quartet arrangement of Break Forth, O Beauteous, Heavenly Light, was made for the 2018 Holiday Contest Entry. Martin Luther developed the Lutheran chorale, a religious hymn sung in four-part harmony by the congregation as part of the service. Break Forth, O Beauteous, Heavenly Light was written by Johann Rist and Johann Schop in the mid-17th century, so that by 1734, when Bach included it in his Christmas Oratorio, it was well known to congregations. The harmonization, however, is Bach ‘s own. The arrangement remains faithful to the original facsimile of Bach. It is transposed for a modern clarinet quartet. Variations in loudness and the duration of musical notes are the basic elements to musical expression. A few interpretation symbols where added to shorten some of the notes. Breathing between music phrases is notated. and the final was stretched with one more bar for a ralentando effect. This details are only suggestions for an interpretation. The piece is appropriate for beginner students or amateurs and without any doubt very pleasant to listen when played by an experienced ensemble. It can be used in concerts and all sorts of spiritual or religious events. Thank you very much for taking your time to read this text and to listen to the file. However, after showing it to some horn players, we realised that it would be a great way to work on the break between high and low horn registers, playing in that awkward register until it becomes a smooth join.The book is divided into 3 parts. Part 1 focuses on typical scale patterns, incorporating articulation patterns into each exercise. Part 2 focuses on repetition to help build muscle memory and ‘iron out’ some of the more awkward patterns. Part 3 takes the exercises from Part 1 and uses them to cover multiple octaves, which will help to bridge the different registers.This book uses the same 15 exercises used in the Scales Bootcamp, but they appear in this book with only major scales, and in appropriate registers to work on the break for french horn. Scales Through the Break also includes 10 additional exercises aimed specifically to assist the horn through its greater range of use. If you like this book, then you can follow it up later with all of the modes, and other scale types in the Scales Bootcamp.

God brought them to this land of promise before the Jews were carried away captive into Babylon. I know this is true. You can read the Book of Mormon. You can ask God for yourself if it is true. Then you too can know, for God will answer your prayer.

While I absolutely agree that the skill of predicting music’s direction from harmonic and melodic cues is an essential skill for any musician to develop, I think we will all agree that resources for this type of reading practice are already abundant. This collection, on the other hand, is designed to develop the user’s ability to process raw musical data. Once this skill is strengthened and internalized it is my belief that the act of reading more predictable and typically melodic music will be made much easier as the processing of notes and rhythms will be second nature, allowing the musician to focus on musicality. This book is a supplement to practising sight-reading using real music, not a replacement; I encourage you to use both. If this material is being used to practice sight-reading, it is encouraged to cycle through the exercises quickly rather than dwelling on a particular exercise for a long period of time. The goal in practising sight-reading is not to learn the material but to develop the skill of reading new material. Single-movement work for string trio. I've been practicing meditation for several years and if I had to choose a particular word to describe what I experience, that word would be drifting. After relaxing, my mind begins to wander. Fragments of images, thoughts and sounds flash through my mind, like fast zapping on a TV. Everything is blurry, but every now and then an image takes shape and for a moment I see all kinds of things: people, landscapes, animals, etc.; sometimes I hear a voice that speaks to me; I've even listened to music, like tuning in to a radio station for a few seconds (and when I say listen I mean it; it's not like remembering a song, it's exactly like listening to it). This is known in neuroscience as the hypnagogic state, in which hallucinations often occur. I decided to draw on this kind of experience to write Drifting. It's organized in three sections, with no break between them: relaxing, flowing and being.

This rock chart by Mars Bonfire, a native of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada was first performed by the band “Steppenwolf†in 1968. It was later featured in the 1969 film “Easy Rider†featuring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Terry Southern, as motorcyclists travelling through the southern United States. “Mars Bonfire†was the stage name for Dennis McCrohan, who, along with his brother and drummer for Steppenwolf, Jerry, changed their last names to Edmonton. The original version was a ballad. Bonfire offered the song to other bands, but it wasn’t until Steppenwolf that it morphed into the current sped-up and rock-style chart we have today. Katrina is a piece I wrote after the historic category 5 hurricane that made landfall on the coast of Louisiana on August 25, 2005, carrying winds up to 175 mph, causing over 1,800 fatalities and $125 billion in damage. It's a piece I dedicated to my father who was there and lived through it. I tried to capture moments throughout the storm, glimpses through the music, though it is difficult given the immenseness of this massive, destructive storm. The piece begins with swirling winds and a sense of dread and anticipation. The wind begins to pick up, then pauses briefly as the rain begins to fall in rhythmic raindrops. Soon the rain picks up and is joined with the growing fierce winds, building to a peak. The storm begins to calm, followed with the piano playing the final raindrops as they slow and then stop. The piano plays alone as the skies open up and the sun breaks through at the end. The piece includes a full score, flute 1 & 2, oboe, cello, claves and optional rainstick, and a separate piano part (easier to read). Total of 17 pages.
