“When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder” for 13-note Bells and Boomwhackers® (with Color Coded Notes)
Large Ensemble Bells,Boomwhackers,Glockenspiel,Handbell,Handchime,Orff Instrument,Xylophon…

Large Ensemble Bells,Boomwhackers,Glockenspiel,Handbell,Handchime,Orff Instrument,Xylophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.565975 By Sharon Wilson. By James M. Black. Arranged by Sharon Wilson Music. Children,Praise & Worship,Romantic Period,Sacred,Traditional. Score and parts. 38 pages. Sharon Wilson #6612669. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.565975). NOTE: This song has many eighth notes and may take beginners longer to learn and master. Those with a little music experience will probably have an easier time learning this arrangement and have a lot of fun with the quick tempo. For beginning musicians or for introducing new players to Handbells and Boomwhackers®, I recommend starting with an easy song which uses only quarter notes and rests in the score such as God Is So Good for 8-note Bells and Boomwhackers®. This sheet music is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. Included in this set of scores is a combined score with both instrument parts on a grand staff plus a separate score for each instrument. A note and chord reference chart is also provided. To aid in the learning and teaching of this song or for use with other instruments (such as a Ukulele), chord names are included on the Boomwhackers® staff and score. Lyrics are provided on the grand staff for sing along enjoyment or when using this arrangement as the accompaniment for a unison choir. In addition, a complete set of scores for 4 ringers and 4 whackers is provided. Though there are multiple combinations for the number of ringers and whackers needed for any given performance, this extra set of scores is specifically designed for 8 performers with 1 to 3 notes assigned to each player. For each ringer and whacker, the 1-staff score shows only the notes they are assigned. This alternate score format may be easier to sight-read since the only notes on the staff are the assigned notes allowing the player to focus on rhythm. This set of scores uses colored noteheads corresponding to the Boomwhackers® color scheme. Only filled noteheads are used so the notes are full color and easier to see (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter and eighth rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. All sharps and flats are displayed as well (shown in the key of C); a helpful reminder for beginning musicians. Note assignment suggestions are provided. Other suggestions and uses: * have both parts played by bells or both parts played using only Boomwhackers® * form a choir using multiple sets of bells and/or Boomwhackers® * use as part of the music education for children at school, home, or church* these colorful, inexpensive instruments can be enjoyed by all ages and add a fun, unique element to activities and programs: senior centers, family reunions, church retreats, home school groupsPermission is granted to make as many copies as needed for one family, church, school, or other performing group. Please purchase additional copies for multiple groups or organizations. Boomwhackers® is a registered trademark of Rhythm Band Instruments LLC. Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1320143 By Ian Munsick. By Dave Villa, Ian Munsick, Jamie Kenney, and Niko Moon. Arranged by Kyle Pudenz. 21st Century,Contemporary,Country,Pop,Wedding. Chords/Lyrics. 5 pages. ViolinVagabond Music #908674. Published by ViolinVagabond Music (A0.1320143). Here's a chart designed for the last-minute gigging musician, by the last-minute gigging musician. Indeed, I got called in to sub on a wedding gig on less than a week's notice, and found this song right at the top of the list. Having not played or listened to it... ever, I decided to display some semblance of due dilligence and write out a version that would work in the range of a solo instrumental violin. Then, and don't ask me where this sudden magnanimous streak came from, I decided to spin up the same chart with lyrics and chord diagrams just in case I ever needed to play it with a vocalist.Out of the goodness of my heart, ALL of the above is available to you for the low low price of about 5 bucks. While I was tabbing this out from the perspective of a violinist, the range is pretty universal and should be playable on just about any treble clef instrument. Including the viola... although if you got hired to play solo viola at a wedding or a cocktail hour I have questions. It's nothing spectacular, but here's what I can promise you if you buy this chart:- THE CHORDS ARE RIGHT. I honestly can't believe there are people that get the chords to songs like these wrong on their arrangements, but here we are. Rest assured I am not one of them.- YOU CAN ACTUALLY READ IT. Finale collisions and terrible interpretations of vocal rhythms need not apply here.- THE MELODY WILL WORK ON YOUR INSTRUMENT. Again, this is not one of those hyper-transcriptions of every little vocal ornament that was sang on the studio version. I purposefully chose where to simplify vs. embellish the melody so that there's room for instrumental interpretation without getting lost in the details.May this humble arranger's last-minute busy work bring joy to your audience and at least an extra 30 minutes of sleep to you by not having to learn this song the night before the gig. Enjoy the hustle, friends.

Small Ensemble Harp,Piano,Voice - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.946154 Composed by Shari Sarazin. Folk,Patriotic,Pop. Score and parts. 4 pages. Shari A. Sarazin #6118499. Published by Shari A. Sarazin (A0.946154). In the late 1920’s a farm girl from Juneau County, Erma Howland Barrett, took out her journal and wrote a beautiful poem about the place she called home in Wisconsin. Her poem reflected the majesty and wonder of the place she called home - the land of her dreams. In 1993, I took my grandmother’s heartfelt words and set them to music in a song I entitled, Oh Wisconsin, Land Of My Dreams. Erma’s love of her lifelong home in Wisconsin is echoed by many others who have called Wisconsin their home. Their life-stories and loving memories remain with us in the sweet refrains of Wisconsin’s official state ballad, Oh Wisconsin, Land Of My Dreams. This arrangement can be performed as piano & voice or harp & voice. For more information go to www.sharisarazin.com. Enjoy!!!

Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1129914 By Wajdi Abou Diab. By Traditional Arabic music, Sayed Darwich, Egyptian , Algerian, Palestinian. Arranged by Wajdi Abou Diab. Chamber,Classical,Folk,Multicultural,Traditional,World. 215 pages. W. Abou Diab #730323. Published by W. Abou Diab (A0.1129914). Arabic folk tunes – flexible quartet is a collection of four (4) Arabic famous folk tunes arranged for a flexible quartet, that can be performed by any type of ensemble (quartet, or bigger ensemble by doubling parts) include scores and parts for the arrangement of these four famous Arabic songs: Mahla Nourha – Sayed Darwich A very popular song by the great Egyptian songwriter/singer Sayyed Darwich, in the Egyptian countryside language, describes the simple life in the Egyptian countryside, that’s starts with the shining sun and continues by bringing the milk from the cows and working in the field. Then meet the loved one near the river and flirt together Rozana – Palestinian Folk The ship called “Rosanna†is an Italian ship that Italy sent to Lebanon and Syria at the time of the great famine in 1914, loaded with wheat. But when it arrived, it turned out that it was loaded with grapes and apples, which disappointed the Lebanese and the Syrians. Despite this, the people of Aleppo secured the necessary wheat for the Lebanese, to save them from starvation. Zourouni – Egyptian Folk An old Egyptian folk tune, with a very catchy melody. Almost every Arabic singer since Sayed Darwich till now made his cover for this song! Starts with an invitation to visit the singer, even once every year, which speaks of how difficult for him to be forgotten, then expresses his fear about feeling the longing. Yal Rayeh – Algerian Folk A world-famous Algerian folk song was written and sung by the Algerian popular singer Dahmane El Harrachi. The song tells about the suffering of immigrants in estranging homes from marginalization, exclusion, and longing to return to the homeland, and it contains advice for the immigrant to invite him to return to the motherland as migration to foreign homes is not considered a healthy or natural solution for Arab immigrants.

The King, by Dennis McCorkle, is a contemporary pop-rock musical of the first two kings of Israel, Saul ben Kish and David ben Jesse and explores the contrasting lives and outcome of each man’s choices in life. [2 Samuel 11:12-13 - And David said to Uriah: ‘Tarry here to-day also, and to-morrow I will let thee depart.’ So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow. 13 And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk; and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.] In fear of being exposed, DAVID has her husband brought back from the field with the hope that he will have relations with his wife covering up his own indiscretion. URIAH, a conscientious soldier, returns home, but sleeps outside on his steps out of respect for the men still fighting on the front. Seeing that his ploy has not worked, he has URIAH and some of his men over to the palace for drinks [Pour Me Another One – Troops, Uriah and David]. Getting URIAH drunk, DAVID has him escorted home, but as before he sleeps outside. As a last desperate measure, he sends a letter for JOAB (David’s commander and confidant) back with URIAH to place URIAH on the front line and then have the rest of the troops pull back leaving him exposed. URIAH is killed. Also included with your order is our new 20 page catalog of over 150 titles at no additional charge.

By Giuseppe Verdi. Arranged by Rita Arendz. 19th Century,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Opera. Brass Band. 33 pages. Rita Arendz #841729. Published by Rita Arendz (A0.1247187). Giuseppe Verdi's opera IL TROVATORE, which premiered in 1853, is one of emotional and dramatic extremes and is sometimes called confusing and absurd.  But it also contains some of Verdi's best arias and selections, including the duet AI NOSTRI MONTI (Home to our Mountains). In a Spanish Castle's prison cell, Manrico (a troubadour, rebel army officer) is trying to comfort his mother Azucena as she believes she will be burned at the stake, as was her mother years before.  Eventually, Manrico is successful and Azucena falls asleep. This arrangement for British-style Brass Band features the Flugelhorn (as Azucena) and the Euphonium (as Manrico) as they sing (play) of their passion for and longing for their home in the mountains.Duration 4:10  33 pages.

Brass Band. 178 pages. David Woodcock #977843. Published by David Woodcock (A0.1394362). This is an heroic piece for Brass Band in three movements. It was the set piece for C Grade in the New Zealand National Band Contest in 2022. Programme Notes: From a young age, I was always interested in castles and history, and have visited many castles in my home country of Wales, which is sometimes called the “castle capital of the worldâ€. At one time Wales had about 600 castles, of which over 100 are still standing, either as ruins or restored buildings. The remainder have been reduced to ditches, mounds and earthworks. Visiting these amazing historically significant buildings has allowed me to reflect on their importance and purpose. In their day they were the centres of thriving communities and it is through their value as the focus of the community, that the three movements have developed their individual characteristics. The first movement depicts a large formidable castle, towering over the neighbouring lands, exuding power, authority and law, complete with noblemen and knights; the second movement describes the pastoral scenes around the castle, and the commoners going about their ordinary lives; the third demonstrates the military function of the castle which was to protect: when coming under siege, the people eventually triumph, the enemy defeated.

Here’s a new piece I've written that I’ve called ‘Changing Seasons’ because the mood and musical style changes throughout the piece. It’s not too difficult, but there is a tricky little modulation in there! I started piece this back in 2021 but didn’t get past the introduction, but due to a condition I’m not going into here I’ve had a lot of time sat at home near a toilet recently so I’ve been able to spend more time working on it!

Schubert: Ave Maria for Bass Flute & Piano
Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548690 Comp…
(+)
Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548690 Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Easter,Standards. Score and individual part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3411129. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548690). A Bass Flute Christmas/Easter classic! Duration: 4:55 Score: 3 pg. Bass Flute part: 1 pg. Piano reads from the score. Schubert seems to have composed this piece as a song-setting. This is because he wanted to portray a poignant emotional event from a poem. The poem was Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake. Consequently, this song became an integral part of Schubert's Song cycle. Therefore the cycle is called: the Lady of the Lake. In the poem, Ellen Douglas is the Lady of the Lake. The lake is probably Loch Katrine in the Scottish Highlands. First of all, Ellen goes with her father to stay in the Goblin's cave. They go because he earlier refused to join in a rebellion against King James. Roderick Dhu, the chief of the rebellious Alpine Clan, marches up the mountain with his army. But before the battle, he, first of all, hears Ellen singing. She is singing a prayer calling for help from the Virgin Mary. Schubert's piece was first performed at the castle of Countess Sophie Weissenwolff in Steyregg, Austria.  Schubert dedicated the arrangement to her, and as a result, she became famous as the lady of the lake. The incipit of Ellen's song is Ave Maria which is Latin for Hail Mary. It seems like this similarity led Schubert to adapt the melody to accommodate the Roman Catholic prayer Ave Maria. Consequently, the Latin version of Ave Maria finally became more famous than the original so that consequently many believe he wrote the Latin version first. Schubert Franz Schubert (1797–1828) was, in fact, a famous Austrian composer. Moreover, he composed during the late Classical and early Romantic periods. Schubert was comparatively prolific. He wrote more than 600 secular vocal works, seven symphonies, and, correspondingly, a massive amount of piano and chamber music. Critics agree, as a matter of fact, that his most famous works include his Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 (also known as the Trout Quintet), the Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D. 759 (Unfinished Symphony), the last sonatas for piano (D. 958–960), and the song cycles Die schöne Müllerin (D. 795) and Winterreise (D. 911). Education Schubert was furthermore a musical child prodigy. He studied violin with his father as well as piano with his older brother. In addition, when Schubert was eleven he studied at Stadtkonvikt school, where he became familiar with the orchestral music of Haydn, Mozart, and likewise Beethoven. In due time he left school and returned home where he studied to become an educator; nevertheless, he continued studying composition with Antonio Salieri. Performance Eventually, Schubert was admitted to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde as a performer. This appointment straightaway established his name in Vienna as a composer and pianist. Finally, he gave his only composition recital in 1828. He died suddenly a few months later probably due to typhoid fever. Legacy Schubert’s music was by and large underappreciated while he was alive. There were all in all only a few enthusiasts in Vienna. After he died, however, interest in his work in fact increased. Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms and other famous composers in due time discovered his compositions. Nowadays, historians rank Schubert expressly among the greatest composers of the era, and his music remains in general very popular.

By George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Richard Starkey. Arranged by Chris Gorman. Pop,Rock. Brass Band. 32 pages. Chris Gorman #903370. Published by Chris Gorman (A0.1314616). John Lennon wrote Now and Then in the late 1970s, and recorded a demo in 1977 at his home at The Dakota in New York City. The lyrics are typical of the apologetic love songs that Lennon wrote in the latter half of his career. For the most part, the verses are nearly complete, though there are still a few lines that Lennon did not flesh out on the demo tape performance. Writing for the Los Angeles Times, Stephen Thomas Erlewine called Lennon's composition a wispy, melancholy ballad, while Billboard's Kyle Denis described the song as a lovelorn guitar-centric rock ballad. This arrangement follows closely to the authorised version played by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and friends, and will be a great addition to the Brass Band Library.

Schubert: Ave Maria for Baritone Horn & Piano

Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552828 Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Easter,Standards. Score and part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3411131. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552828). A Baritone Horn Christmas/Easter classic! Duration: 4:55 Score: 3 pg. Baritone Horn part: 1 pg.

Score and parts. 43 pages. Regis Bookshar #6612695. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813891). Violin Octet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of the March from Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's extremely popular, The Nutcracker Suite, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals but would be most appropriate during the Holiday season. This selection has been arranged to keep all of the intensity and excitement of the original composition and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (43 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. The Nutcracker is an 1892 two-act ballet with a score by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It has enjoyed enormous popularity since the late 1960's and is performed by countless ballet companies, primarily during the Christmas season, especially in North America. Tchaikovsky's score has become one of his most famous compositions. Some critics have called it astonishingly rich in detailed inspiration and from beginning to end, beautiful, melodious, original and characteristic. The ballet's first complete performance outside Russia took place in England in 1934. The first complete United States performance was on December 24, 1944, by the San Francisco Ballet. It was such an enormous success that the San Francisco Ballet has presented The Nutcracker every Christmas Eve and throughout the winter season, debuting new productions in 1944, 1954, 1967 and 2004. In Salt Lake City, it has been performed every year since 1963. The New York City Ballet gave its first annual performance in 1954. In addition to annual live stagings of the work, many productions have also been televised or released on home video. The Nutcracker continues to be one of Tchaikovsky's most popular compositions and contains some of his most memorable works. Tchaikovsky made a selection of eight of the numbers from the ballet before the ballet's December 1892 premiere, forming The Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a, and is intended for concert performance. The suite was first performed, under the composer's direction, on March 19, 1892. The suite became instantly popular with almost every number encored at its premiere.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could also have the opportunity to play some of these wonderful compositions, originally scored for a full orchestra, and has arranged two of the selections, the popular March and the Russian Dance for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. So, in addition to this version of the March for a Violin Octet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection for various Quintets and Octets and are readily available. If you should decide to purchase this arrangement of the March, I would highly encourage you to also consider purchasing the arrangement of the Russian Dance as well. Scheduling the March followed by the Russian Dance would be a very satisfying addition to any concert or recital. Please take the time to look for other versions of these compositions. You may find something else that might also suit your needs.I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as there are numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this wonderful arrangement of the March from Tchaikovsky's marvelous holiday favorite, The Nutcracker Suite, will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Brass Ensemble Euphonium - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.927033 Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by Danny Chapa. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 35 pages. Kayla Roth #3444757. Published by Kayla Roth (A0.927033). One of Franz Schubert's most famous works (and indeed, one of the most well-known lieder), Erlkönig, based on poetry by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, tells the story of a father, his sick child, and a malevolent elf-spirit called Erlkönig (elf king or alder king). The child, delirious with fever, insists to his father that the Erlkönig means to harm him; as his father reassures the child that he is only imagining things, the Erlkönig torments him, sweet words turning into threats. The father races through the forest on his galloping horse with his son in his arms, arriving back home only to find that the child has succumbed to his fever. In Schubert's original composition, the galloping of the horse is depicted in incessant triplets played by the pianist, while the vocalist must portray four different characters - the narrator, the father, the son, and the Erlkönig. Danny Chapa's arrangement for four euphoniums preserves these aspects, dividing the vocal roles amongst the four performers: part one is the narrator, part two is the son, part three is the father, and part four is the Erlkönig. The fifth character of the horse is disbursed throughout all parts.Dr. Chapa holds degrees from Louisiana State University and from the University of North Texas and has held faculty positions at Stephen F. Austin State University and at Brookhaven College. He is an active performer and lecturer at concerts and conferences around the United States. For more great euphonium literature, be sure to check out other selections from Atticus Sounds Publications here on Sheet Music Plus!

Large Ensemble,Rhythm Section Flute - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.910422 By Charlie Parker. By Charlie Parker. Arranged by David Heywood. Jazz. Score and parts. 63 pages. David Heywood #5203399. Published by David Heywood (A0.910422). Donna Lee by legendary jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker falls in to the category of a contrafact, or the recycling of an older tune using a new melody with the same chord changes. In this case, Parker used an old tune from 1917 called Indiana, or Back Home Again in Indiana, improvised a new melody over it, and the rest is history. This medium-up tempo swing arrangement features flute quartet (Four C Flutes) and rhythm section, and uses a paraphrase of the original tune in combination with Parker’s melody in the head and a canon with the same melody in the head out. All instruments get the opportunity to solo, and there is a flute soli section after blowing that pays homage to another contrafact done on the same tune by Horace Silver. Not an easy chart, but well worth the effort!

The piece was commissioned for the Eroica Trio by a noted patron for music, Kathryn Gould of Palo Alto, California. The world premiere took place at the Montalvo Chamber Music Series in California, March 5th, 2004. In a letter to the members of the trio dated 9/20/03, Mr. O’Connor lays out his plan for the new music. My initial ideas have sort of exploded in to the entire concept of the music with a real impact actually. Now I am piecing together the parts of it and then will eventually work on detail as I get the overall form under wrap. Here is what my inspiration for the music is; Johnny Cash.Johnny was a boyhood hero of mine, I used to sing his songs when I was 8, 9 and 10 years old, and played the guitar like him (sometimes up the fretboard strumming away). My mom used to help me transcribe all the lyrics off the albums, she also thought he hung the moon. As you can imagine, the passing of Cash for me this last week has been emotional. I am at my very best when I compose with my emotions at my sleeve, and guess what, it is time to do the Eroica piece. And I believe I will be able to craft a very unique tribute in to the form of a Piano Trio. There is something that is very fitting in all of this though. Cash was one of the few country music and rockabilly musicians to appeal to all ages, all types of people all the way into the MTV generation which is something that is hard to fathom. That one person can move musical mountains with his charisma and his voice. He sung about the prisons, riding the trains, about killing, and living, about lost love, about the gospel, about the downtrodden and the Native American, and about being stoned. His musical sound was the thing that got everybody though. He developed along with his guitar player Luther Perkins, a new and vibrant way to bring the music out.I also knew Johnny and worked with him, visited him privately at his home. Johnny also appeared on my album called Heroes, where he brought back the great story of the Devil coming down to Georgia to challenge young Johnny for the golden fiddle. My job now is to bridge what I am feeling about my inspiration for Cash, and bring it in to the instruments that I love writing for.I might not have imagined that this Johnny Cash concept would have worked out of hand, if it hadn’t been for your musicianship, insight fullness and graceful approaches in to the details of musical concepts and style. If the piece is good, then I will have no doubt that you will bring it to the forefront so others can grasp the intentions of the work, and in addition for others to enjoy playing it after you have brought it all out in to the open, and gave it a life. Largo (from Symphony No. 9 in E minor) (From the New World) (Db) (Viola Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of the Largo, based on the second movement of Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services, especially Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (18 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (subtitled From the New World and popularly know as the New World Symphony), was composed by Antonin Dvorak in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 16, 1893 and has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. The second movement of the symphony, upon which this arrangement is based, is marked Largo, and begins with a harmonic progression of chords which is then followed by a solo instrument playing the famous main theme.Dvorak was interested in Native American music and the African-American spirituals he heard in North America. While director of the National Conservatory he encountered an African-American student, Harry T. Burleigh, who sang traditional spirituals to him. Burleigh, later a composer himself, said that Dvorak had absorbed their spirit before writing his own melodies. Dvorak stated:    I am convinced that the future music of this country must be founded on what are called Negro melodies. These can be the foundation of a serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States. These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil. They are folk songs of America and your composers must turn to them.He further explained how Native American music influenced his symphony:  I have not actually used any of these (Native American) melodies. I have simply written original themes embodying the peculiarities of the Indian music, and, using these themes as subjects, have developed them with all the resources of modern rhythms, counterpoint, and orchestral colour. In 1893, a newspaper interview quoted Dvorak as saying, I found that the music of the negroes and of the Indians was practically identical, and that the music of the two races bore a remarkable similarity to the music of Scotland. Most historians agree that Dvorak is referring to the pentatonic scale, which is typical of each of these musical traditions.Dvorak was influenced not only by music he heard, but also by what he had seen, in America. He wrote that he would not have composed his American pieces as he had if he had not seen America. It has been said that Dvorak was inspired by the wide open spaces of America, such as the prairies he may have seen on his trip to Iowa in the summer of 1893. Notices about several performances of the symphony include the phrase wide open spaces about what inspired the symphony and/or about the feelings it conveys to listeners. The theme from the Largo was adapted into the spiritual Goin' Home (often mistakenly considered a folk song or traditional spiritual) by Dvorak's pupil, William Arms Fisher, who wrote the lyrics in 1922. Regis Bookshar thought it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to this version for a Viola Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection which are readily available for a wide variety of instrumental.

Regis Bookshar thought it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to this version for a String Quintet, consisting of 2 Violins, 1 Viola, 1 Violoncello and 1 Double Bass, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this sel.
