Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792439). Erik Saties Trois Sarabandes were composed in September 1887 and based on the poetry of J.P. Contamine de Latour (1867-1926). The second Sarabande is dedicated to Maurice Ravel. The Sarabande is a Renaissance dance in 3/4 time. Originally for the Piano, these three works are very slow, rich in harmony and dreamy in mood, making them excellent vehicles to show off the rich texture of the five-part Trombone ensemble. The three movements are about 12 minutes in length and can be performed by moderate to advanced performers (the 1st part is in alto clef and reaches a high E-flat, but the other parts are more moderate in difficulty.

Arranged wind dectet(double wind quintet)/bassParade is a ballet with music by Erik Satie and a one-act scenario by Jean Cocteau.The ballet was composed 1916–1917 for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The ballet premiered on Friday, May 18, 1917 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, with costumes and sets designed by Pablo Picasso, choreography by Léonide Massine (who danced), and the orchestra conducted by Ernest Ansermet. This movement Ragtime also known as Rag-Time du Paquebot (Ragtime of the Packet Steamer/Steampacket) would later be adapted for piano solo, and attained considerable success as a separate piano piece.It fits the wind dectet well, and should be played lightly.Please check out  the rest of my Satie arrangements for varying instrument combinations :3 Gymnopédies and 3 Gnossiennes. Published by De Stijl Music Digital (D3.SM-05-0002F). 8.5 x 11 inches.Bongatelles is a pun in homage to Erik Satie's whimsical titles. Satie also found inspiration in Greek antiquity and French literature, most notably his Socrate. Jean Racine's (1639-1699) tragedy Andromaque (1667) inspired these duets. Racine took his characters from Greek and Roman stories and adapted or created new situations for them in accordance with baroque fascination with neo-classicism in literature. Andromaque is a love quadrangle in which all who love die or go insane. Only the prisoner-queen Andromaque, who is incapable of love, survives. Andromaque, icy cold, rejects amorous advances from her captor Phyrrus. She plots her survival, trying desperately to save her infant son Astyanax from the Greek ambassador Oreste who would have her Trojan line finished off for good. The baby Astyanax sleeps silently, unaware of the deadly drama surrounding him. Does he nap peacefully? Or does he dream, like his mother, of revenge for the death of his conquered father, the great Trojan warrior king Hector? Phyrrus awkwardly tries to sweet-talk his captive Andromaque into marriage. She rejects him until he becomes furious and threatens to kill her son Astyanax unless she agrees to wed. Phyrrus alternates between threats and cajoling. Hermione loves Phyrrus, who decides to marry Andromaque instead. She rejects her own suitor Oreste, until she vengefully has him kill Phyrrus. Oreste does her bidding, only to be rewarded by a final rejection. She accuses Oreste of being a murderous monster. When Hermione sees the body of Phyrrus, she kills herself. The Greek soldier and ambassador Oreste sailed to Epire to persuade King Phyrrus to kill or hand over the infant Astyanax, last of the line of Troy. Oreste is torn between duty and love for usury Hermione. Her broken promises and final rejection affect him profoundly. Oreste goes insane upon learning of her death.

The music, called Shao Music, has been played in all its magnificence since then. The event is highly choreographed and controlled musically, aiming to reflect and celebrate Confucius' philosphies of peace. Traditional Chinese music is primarily melodic, and western ears may feel the lack of harmonic richness. A player could read out the Confucius quotation at the beginning of each movement. Flute or Oboe, Oboe, Bassoon, optional Narrator. How to play... The melody and some of the bass line consists of the rows of pitch-classes in verses 1 and 2 of Honouring Confucius (Ta Tsai Kung-Tzu) I have introduced rhythmic variety, harmony and some phasing and use the traditional pentatonic scale as rendered by the Chinese classical music instruments-drums, bells, flutes, and strings. The flute symbolises balance. A man without...is a very short saraband, a courtly dance using all the pitches of verse 2 in order. It was by music... uses major triad fanfares where possible, with an occasional glissando. Music produces a special... is a sensuous waltz: as with most of the movements, I have shamelessly used a tonal harmony under the notes of verse 4 (illustrated). When music and courtesy... plays the notes of Verse 6 in quintuple time over a drone. If one should desire...is a barefoot parade (gymnopedie?) in Satie's style. Duration 7 minutes.
