Anyone can play shape-note music, even when Sacred Harp gatherings or “singings†are not easily accessible. The hymns in this collection are drawn from various classic shape-note sources like Southern Harmony (1835) and The Sacred Harp (1844). Presented in lead-sheet format (melody, chords, and lyrics), and written in keys accessible to all C instruments and several D instruments such as the penny whistle and mountain dulcimer, the material offers plenty of arrangements. Hymns can be sung by a soloist, in unison by a small group with chordal accompaniment, or a mixed ensemble.

This sheet music is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. Included in this set of scores is a combined score with both instrument parts on a grand staff plus a separate score for each instrument. A note and chord reference chart is also provided. To aid in the learning and teaching of this song or for use with other instruments (such as a Ukulele), chord names are included on the Boomwhackers® staff and score. Lyrics are also provided on each score for sing along enjoyment or when using this arrangement as the accompaniment for a unison choir.This set of scores uses colored noteheads corresponding to the Boomwhackers® color scheme.  If you have a set of bells or tubes with a different color scheme, Chroma-Notes Stick Ons can be purchased and applied so the instruments match the Boomwhackers® color scheme. Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are full color and easier to distinguish (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). While most of us no longer live within earshot of bells, many will find a catchy and simple melody still wakes us up in the morning, reminds us to go to that meeting we forgot about, or even just helps us to do day-to-day tasks. As an avid alarm-user myself, I find music assisting me with punctuality just as it has for my ancestors. I wanted to create a piece commemorating this bond between music and time, inspired by both traditional carillon melodies, as well as modern day ringtones. My piece Musical Clock contains movements for both beginners and intermediate players. Each movement may be played individually, but any two or more movements should be played sequentially. ~Adam Lenhart, 2024This composition was first premiered by carillonist Adam Lenhart at the 53 bell Charles Baird Carillon in Ann Arbor, Michigan.------------------------Adam Lenhart (b. 2002) is a University of Michigan student of music theory, composition, voice and organ from Ottawa Lake, Michigan. As a theorist, his areas of study vary widely, including 18th century counterpoint, the early American Sacred Harp tradition and impressionism. As a composer, his music draws inspiration from nature, mathematics and poetry. In 2020 he was awarded the Michigan Music Education Associations Young Composers of Michigan award, as well as first prize in the University of Toledo Young Composers competition. Lenhart has also participated in numerous ensembles across Michigan, including the MYAF All-State Choir, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, University of Michigan Mens Glee Club and the SMTD University Choir. He thoroughly enjoys collaboration with other composers, performers, poets and visual artists. First performed by the composer at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York in 1926, the Piano Preludes (or Three Preludes) are a collection of short pieces by George Gershwin, show casing early-20th-century American classical music, as influenced by jazz. Gershwin originally planned to compose 24 preludes, wrote 7, performed only 6 publically and was further reduced to 3 when first published. The work was dedicated to friend and musical advisor Bill Daly. The first prelude begins with a five-note blues motif. It features syncopated rhythms based on the Brazilian baião and minor-seventh chords throughout. The second prelude, which Gershwin said was a sort of blues lullaby consists of two sections: the first a lazy melody upon a steady beat of crotchets; the second the bass takes the melody, continuing with the steady beats. The third prelude was called Spanish by Gershwin, and features a question-and-answer type melody, starting in a minor tonality and ending in major one. This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass.
