Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 1 - SKU: A0.552826 Composed by James Pierpont. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas. Score and part. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #3408519. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552826). Jingle Bells arranged for baritone horn (treble clef) and piano. Easy! Jingle Bells is perhaps the most famous songs in American music history. James L. Pierpont published the song as One Horse Open Sleigh in the late 1850’s. Since its introduction, people began to insist that Pierpont wrote it for a Sunday school choir. However, it seems unlikely that such a secular song would be considered appropriate during that historical period for Sunday school.Christmas Repertoire Pierpont wrote the song for the Thanksgiving holidays, but over time people began to think of it more as a Christmas song. Some choirs adopted it as part of their Christmas repertoire in the 1860s and 1870s. Jingle Bells was first recorded in 1889 on a wax cylinder. Origins No one knows where Pierpont composed the song. One theory suggests he wrote it in Medford Massachusetts in 1850. Sleigh races were certainly popular in 19th Century Massachusetts. To this day, a commemorative placard appears in Medford square claiming that it is the birthplace of Jingle Bells. Others suggest that he wrote it in Savannah, Georgia where he was an organist and music director at the Unitarian Church. This theory gains support from the copyright date of 1857. We know he was living in Savannah by then. Traffic Signals Horse-drawn sleighs are relatively quiet in the snow. Consequently, horses were usually equipped with bell-laden straps so as to avoid accidents at blind intersections. Sleigh drivers in 19th Century New England were constantly vigilant, listening for the sounds of approaching horse-drawn sleighs. The tune imitates the rhythm that the trotting horse bells produce. Social Context Jingle Bells was sung as a drinking song at local revelries: during the song folks would rhythmically jangle the ice in their glasses. A sleigh ride gave couples an opportunity to be alone together. The term Jingle bells is a poetic descriptive adjective referring specifically to the more accurate term sleigh bells. In many arrangements, sleigh bells are used to accentuate the rhythm during the song chorus. Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.797847 Composed by Stanley Myers. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Contemporary. Score and parts. 9 pages. Derek Hasted #6673767. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797847). CAVATINA for Bb CLARINET and GUITARFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes The beautifully melodic Cavatina was made famous by John Williams, who arranged the piece for solo guitar and produced some effortless recordings of it. Audiences equate effortless with easy, but it can be a bit of a beast to play well. Why this arrangement?I’ve lowered the key by a semitone which makes many of the chords sound more mellow.I’ve fixed the ungainly jumps in the bass line which came as a constraint of playing up the neck on solo guitar.I’ve improved the connectivity of the middle voices from chord to chord so the chord changes sound more effortless and natural.By virtue of the key change and careful use of enharmonic equivalents, the guitar part is now on familiar ground.A side effect is that everything is easier and the sustain seems more effortless. The Guitar is Capo 1, so that the clarinet and guitar are both in comfortable keys.I also have versions for two guitars - to find them easily, visit my website (below) and look for my list of guitar duets.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

Guitar Ensemble Guitar - Level 2 - SKU: A0.797770 By Billy Joel. By Billy Joel. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Contemporary,Pop. Score and parts. 24 pages. Derek Hasted #5299683. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797770). UPTOWN GIRL - THREE or FOUR GUITARS or LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This very playable but satisfying arrangement suits 3 guitars, 4 guitars or (even better!) a large ensemble. This is a piece that's full of hidden gems...For an audience it's absolutely full of uplifting key changes - not just one on the last chorus! This arrangement starts in A, but visits the keys of F, C, D and E more than once, and each one seems to lift the mood yet higher. And then there's a gentle fade away to a quiet finish. For an adult trio, it's an easy rhythmic crowd-pleaser that any audience will like. Each line has its own contribution to the overall big wall of toe-tapping sound. For a guitar teacher, it's a great exercise in rhythm and a chance to show students the half-diminished chord (the m7b5) and the poignancy of the flattened ninth. And indeed to remind them that there's more to good music than just three chords! For a school teacher, this trio comes with a potential life-saver - there's a second version of the Guitar 2 part that is split into two separate parts - 2a and 2b. These parts are ideal for a mixed ability ensemble where one or two players are new starters with guitar (yes, the Guitar 2b part really is that easy!) So play as a trio or a quartet - the choice is yours, and rest assured that an ensemble of widely differing abilities will be able to tackle it to great effect.I hope you enjoy this piece as much as my adult Guitar Workshop ensemble does!

Acoustic Guitar,Instrumental Solo - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1177767 Composed by Jan Antonin (comte de) Logy. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Baroque. Individual part. 11 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #777729. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1177767). Jan Antonin de Logy, count of Rosinthal (1650-1721) was an aristocrat of Bohemia and official ofthe Austrian empire. As a musician he was a lute player of professional level and seems to havebeen a refined and prolific composer of single pieces and suites in the French style for hisinstrument. His compositions are becoming known to us today through important academicresearch but a lot more work has to be made in this field. The present partita, (transcribed in A minor for guitar), was discovered early in this research and it is well known and loved amongstguitarist and lute players of today because of its ease in performance, but at the same timemaintaining a high compositional standard in terms of well-constructed movements incontrapuntal two-part writing. In these editions I prefer not to add any fingerings because I consider that they obscure the opticalresult rather than clarifying any particular way of playing the music. Instrumentalists have tomake their own fingering and choice of position decisions and in most cases they prefer it. My general suggestion for this partita is that open strings should be preferred whenever it is possible, as for example in the second half of the last movement where notes B and E are always sustainedas open strings in the upper part (indicated by the ties) and the required technique and sound result is that of an arpeggio rather than a scalic passage.Although here we have only a five movement partita and it is very easy to navigate from page to page, my usual procedure, followed for larger collections, is to give a thematic index in the beginning of the volume, with the first few bars of every piece given as photographs. If an electronic pad rather than printed music is used to play the music from these PDF archives, these photographs are clickable active links leading strait to the piece concerned, and the header of the page of any piece is another active link leading back to the index. External links to internet sources for further information on the pieces, live performances, etc may be added if considered of particular interest.

Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 4 - SKU: A0.549731 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Contemporary,Multicultural,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and individual part. 22 pages. Jmsgu3 #3531443. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549731). Duration: ca. 7:00, Score: 12 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano: 7 pages. An epic choice for a recital or funeral. Fauré Background In the first place, Gabriel Fauré 1845 –1924) was a famous French composer, musician, and educator. Furthermore, his musical ideas influenced numerous 20th-century composers. Therefore, historians regard him as one of the leading French composers of his time. Famous Works Among his most famous compositions, by and large, are the Pavane, Elegie (op. 24), Requiem, Sicilienne, Nocturnes for piano and the songs Après un rêve and Clair de lune. Inasmuch as his early works are well-known and relatively easy to perform, Faure’s music seems to have become gradually more difficult during his later life. In other words, his later works are somewhat esoteric and complex. Early Home Life Fauré was in fact born into a well-cultivated family. His aptitude for music became particularly clear early on - when he was still a boy. Under these circumstances, his parents sent him to a music institution in Paris. Consequently, the training he received there prepared him for a career as a church organist and choirmaster. Middle Life It is important to realize that Fauré studied music composition with the French musical mastermind Camille Saint-Saëns, who became his lifelong friend.  Fauré eventually graduated from college and earned a living as an organist and educator. During this period, he had, on the whole, little time to compose. He consequently became more successful in his middle age, becoming organist of the Église de la Madeleine and director of the Paris Conservatoire. However, he still needed time on balance for composing. Therefore, given these points, he withdrew to the countryside during the summer to focus on composing. Later Life Fauré was, in the final analysis, recognized in France as the foremost French composer of his time. The French government held a national musical tribute particularly for him in Paris. The French President notably headed the ceremony. Elsewhere, on the contrary, Fauré's music was slow to become accepted, except of course, in England. Legacy Historians often describe Fauré's music in general as a transition between the end of Romanticism and the beginning of modernism. As an illustration, when Fauré was born, Chopin was still composing. However, by the time of Fauré's death, jazz and atonal music, in particular, had come to fruition. Fauré, by all means, suffered from increasing deafness in his later years. Some musicologists believe this to be indeed the cause of the esoteric nature of Faure’s final works.

Instrumental Duet Guitar,Instrumental Duet,Voice - Level 2 - SKU: A0.928253 By R.E.M. By Michael Mills, Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, and William Berry. Arranged by Simon James. Pop,Rock. Score and parts. 5 pages. DML #5371643. Published by DML (A0.928253). Released 1992 on the album ‘Automatic For The People’ and ranked No 31 in Q Magazine’s 1001 Best Songs Ever the track has enjoyed considerable success and been covered a number of times. In the liner notes of the album In Time: The Best Of REM 1988-2003, REM’s guitarist Peter Buck writes that the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers, and I've never watch ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’, but the idea that high school is a portal to hell seems pretty realistic to me. It’s a wonderfully simple song to play but less easy to sing convincingly. As with Eternal Flame a simple second guitar part can be added by strumming the chords on the off beats (beat 2 & 4). Although the guitar part is scored in 6/8 which makes it easier to read, the song is really a slow 4 to a bar, one bar per chord. This arrangement is from The Art Of Accompaniment On The Guitar by Simon James.
