John Pinno #3115907. Published by John Pinno (A0.775438). An arrangement for flute and classical guitar of one of the English composer Edward Elgar's best-known works, Salut d'Amour. He wrote the piece for Caroline Alice Roberts, with whom Elgar was romantically involved, and presented the piece to Miss Roberts as an engagement present in 1888. My arrangement is for flute and guitar, however the melody instrument could easily be a violin. This is arranged in the key of E major, and the guitar part is pitched in D major, but the guitarist must use a capo at the second fret to bring that part up to E. Salut d’Amour, originally titled Liebesgruss (Love’s Greeting), was Edward Elgar’s return gift to his fiancée Caroline Ann Rodgers. She had just written a poem The Wind at Dawn to which he promptly wrote accompanying music.  Elgar went to Schott Publishing to see if it could be published, for which Schott paid Elgar just over £1 in 1888 (worth just under 200USD in 2022). Schott decided to change the name to Salut d’Amour as it would sound more romantic and sell more copies, which it did.Considered one of the most romantic pieces, this setting allows several instruments of the band to take part in the original solo line. A beautiful addition to more than just your Valentine's program.Scored for the smaller British Brass Band with a minimum of 9 parts and up to the full band. Duration ~ 2:45. 28 pages.

This arrangement was originally intended to be comic relief for graduating seniors in the class of 2020. This arrangement can be performed with as little as two performers, and as many as needed. The piece requires pitches G, A, B, C, C#, D, E, and F#. It is best to have lower and higher octaves of the pitches G, A, B, and C, but not necessary. The notes in the music are enlarged to ensure easy visibility. Pitches are labeled and color coded according to the Boomwhackers' color system in order to make the music easier to read. Originally for orchestral brass, now scored for traditional British Brass Band instrumentation, this elegant and powerful fanfare served as the prelude to Smetana's 1881 opera Libusa. It can be a feature as well for the brass section of a concert band using the included set of alternate parts for standard wind band brass instruments (B-flat cornet for soprano cornet in E-flat, F horns for E-flat alto horns, and all low brass parts in bass clef) in substitution for British Brass Band instrumentation.
