Description:Doubt & Determination bridges the gaps between musical eras, as one would hear certain nuance that dates back to the Baroque era but possess a rather modern musical structure. The piece challenges both the listeners and the player themselves. For the public ears, one will have to adapt the performer's perspectives to 'feel' the piece. As the title suggests, both 'Doubt' and 'Determination' are two human perceptions that oppose each other, to understand the music is to find common grounds between them, through unexpected cadences and dynamic change. The performer will have to deliver the technicalities of bringing them together, through detail instructions on dynamics and tempo change. The piece is modeled in Sonata Form. however, it is to be approached with indeterminacy, occasionally granting the performer the freedom through Tempo Rubato and Breath Perceptions.Practice Suggestion:This music can only prevail through expression, thus the commitment for dynamic is of the utmost importance. It is highly suggested to understand what makes this piece unique, a score analysis is always a good start. Mark out the accents (Staccato and Emphasis) and the tempo change. Establish breathing points since the piece has very minimal instructions for that, it is hence highly dependent on the performer's capability to deliver.A proper mindset is essential for the perfect performance.Instrumentations:Certain instruments are optional if a soprano saxophone is proven unavailable. Miles of green, where a small village sits on the banks of the river, beautiful, idyllic, and lush. Somewhere that probably only exists in epic high-fantasy stories. Full of exciting and tense adventure. Tales From The Northern Woods is one of the three winners of the 5th Young Indonesian Composer Competition that was held on January 2022. Mueck's Ghost is an extraordinarily realistic, larger-than-life-sized mannequin. This model is of a young lady in a swimsuit, with exceptionally long legs and an embarrassed glance about her face. This musical work attempts to capture the ghostly, solitary and threatening qualities of the work. It is flexibly scored, in four instrumental parts, and there are opportunities for 'solo' and 'tutti' playing. This work aims to depict a common theme of certain pieces by some classical composers: that of deathly or devilish dances, and the like. This piece is an extended single movement structure for a mixed chamber ensemble that is an octet of oboe, 2 clarinets, bassoon, piano, viola, cello, and double bass. The form is divided into a series of contrasting dances (labelled as Dance, Folk Lament, Jig, Meditation, and Funeral March), all of which are interspersed with differing statements of an ostinato-based 'chorale' idea on the piano. The whole work is framed by an 'intrada', which builds the germinal motif on which the whole piece is based, characterised by semitones and fourths. Indeed, the 'devil's interval' of the augmented fourth has a particular function and significance. The piece actually ends with an 'epilogue', which features mysterious and ghostly reminiscences of the previous main sections. The title of this work also refers to the episode 'Dance of the Dead' from the 1960s cult TV series 'The Prisoner'. In part, the piece attempts to capture the mystery and atmosphere of the series, and of that specific episode. Indeed, the music's series of related but contrasting sections act almost as an original sequence of dramatic TV incidental music cues. The work is accessible to both performers and audience alike. Published by Drake Mabry (A0.799462). Three Painters was a 2008 commission from the Conservatory of Music in Chalons, France. Each of the three movements is inspired by some of my favorite painters, in this case Yves Klein, Zao Wou-ki and Jackson Pollock for the first, second and third movements respectively. I first saw Yves Klein work on a visit to Balbao, Spain during an exhibit of his art at the Guggenheim Museum. There was a kind of giant sandbox filled with his famous blue pigment. The lighting created timbral shadows which varied depending on where the viewer stood. It was difficult to leave. I first saw Zao Wou-ki's paintings during an exhibit in Paris around 2000 – I don't remember where. The abstract shape and colors fascinated me and each work seemed to explore a different emotional perspective. And they were simply beautiful. In 1967 I began my music studies in New York and within a few months of arriving went to the Museum of Modern Art at W. 53rd street. On the way there I crossed paths with Moondog on the street near the museum dressed in his Viking outfit. From my first visit, the two artists I remember most vividly were Jackson Pollock and Alexander Calder. Jackson Pollock's art washed over my senses and I stared at One: Number 31 1950 for what seemed to be hours. And Calder's mobiles danced in slow motion and also captivated me. Someday I will write a work to pay homage to him. Three Painters depicts what I see in the works of these artists as sound over time. The first movement (Yves Klein) explores the subtle changing orchestrational timbres on the pitch 'F'. The second movement (Zao Wou-ki) uses the instruments without their reeds and/or mouthpieces resulting in waves of air sounds washing over the senses. The Third movement (Jackson Pollock) is a jazz-like romp which transfers his vibrant visual energy to a full-blown big band style played by the ensemble. The duration is 12 minutes.Three Painters was premiered by an ensemble conducted by Philippe Cambreling at the Auditorium, CRR de Chalon sur Saône, France on March 22, 2009.
