Introduction, Theme and Variations on "La Cabra Mocha" for Youth Orchestra

Full Orchestra Flute, Oboe, Clarinet in Bb, Bassoon, French Horns in F I and II, Trumpet in Bb, Trombone, Percussion, (Timpani, Glockenspiel), Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Violoncello, Double bass - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: 2S.4251133750706 Composed by Silvano A. Pagliuca-Mena. Jazz. Score and Parts. 46 pages. Soundnotation #4251133750706. Published by Soundnotation (2S.4251133750706). La Cabra Mocha (Full Score) is a Gaita de Furro. Because it belongs to the folklore of Zulia, its origin remains unclear and a dispute over the authorship of the composition currently revolves around Pradelio Hernandez and Jesus Lozano. Although its date of origin is considered equally indefinable for the same reason, its official appearance can be narrowed down to the middle of the 20th century. Probably it's much older, but due to the technological improvements of music recording, the piece became popular only later. La Cabra Mocha is a musical jewel that tells the story of a nation who has a wisdom and finds in music the way to express itself. The history of its transculturation is remarkable, although it also carries contradictions, depending on the way of representing. Sometimes its imposed stereotypes are accepted by society due to a lack of self-knowledge, which ultimately leads to a change of identity, where some elements are transfigured and others are replaced. Arranging a Gaita de Furro for youth orchestra makes sense for the following reasons: First and foremost, the self-knowledge of a society should start from the childhood and should be cultivated and carried on from generation to generation, thereby conserved. Moreover, a lack of a pedagogical act, thus a pedagogical repertoire, is one of the main causes for the ignorance of Venezuelan music. Another important aspect is the transformation or adaptation as a process of maintaining Venezuelan musical culture. Many children already present the intention of the composition by drawing their attention to the formation of the orchestra, which represents a globally unified language as a network of distribution and which is locally independent. Wherever the composition is played - each orchestra will be able to maintain the quality and expressiveness of the piece without hiding its identity. The piece opens with a fanfare introduction of the Cabra Mocha, followed by a drum roll, which reminds of the drummer's traditional reputation and introduces the theme whose chorus is represented by the tutti and its verses by the soli. The first variation consists of a two-bar rhythm and major tonality, full of wit and cunning. The following variation is an Adagio with a three-part rhythm in minor. Then the timpani return to initiate the theme, this time shortened by its Reprise, which finally leads to a polyphonic Codetta. On an interpretative level, the return of variation can be compared with the return of education and thus, to a certain extent, improvisation. This is a very striking factor of traditional music, which is represented as a fitting metaphor in the form of harmonic and rhythmic reference within the composition. Introduccion, Tema y Variaciones sobre la Cabra Mocha was composed in the last weeks of 2012 and won the first prize in the composition competition for the Youth Orchestra of Zulia, which was awarded by the Venezuelan Orchestra in its first edition in 2013. At the beginning of 2014 Silvano Pagliuca-Mena made a small revision of the piece. Silvano Antonio Pagliuca Mena was born on 10 May 1991 in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Despite his Italian and Spanish roots, he has always remained true to his love for the music of his homeland, which is why his compositions always carry Venezuelan impressions, but also influences like academic western music, jazz and popular music.

Paul Wehage: To You for baritone, tenor saxophone and piano
Small Ensemble Medium Voice,Piano Accompaniment,Tenor Saxophone - Level 5 - Digital Downlo…
(+)
Small Ensemble Medium Voice,Piano Accompaniment,Tenor Saxophone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534375 Composed by Paul Wehage. Concert,Contemporary,Holiday,Love,Standards. Score and parts. 41 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3396161. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534375). To You for Baritone, Tenor Saxophone and piano is dedicated to the American Baritone Kurt Ollmann, who has done much for the promotion and performance of American music both in the United States and abroad.Whitman’s poem speaks of seeing a stranger and feeling love for this person. In contrast to Poe’s To Helen, which treats a similar subject of a chance meeting of a stranger that the poet loves, Whitman does not idealize his subject but rather pointedly and brutally describes how he sees this person and what feelings (both negative and positive) this contemplation provokes in the poet’s mind In order to reflect this musically, there is an alternation between more introspective and brooding sections which are then followed by more ecstatic outbursts. The piece ends with the poet watching the stranger leave, expressing what the composer felt to be acceptance and release. As in any chamber music with voice, it is important that the two instruments allow the voice to predominate, regardless of the dynamics marked in their parts. The saxophonist should try as much as possible to match colour with the voice,in order to allow the contrapuntal exchanges between the voice and the saxophone to blend evenly. The pianist should play the passages at rehearsal marks E, G and K in a more soloist manner, always taking care not to cover the voice..To YouWhoever you are, I fear you are walking the walks of dreams,I fear these supposed realities are to melt from under your feet and hands,Even now your features, joys, speech, house, trade, manners, troubles, follies, costume, crimes, dissipate away from you,Your true soul and body appear before me.They stand forth out of affairs, out of commerce, shops, work, farms, clothes, the house, buying, selling, eating, drinking, suffering, dying.Whoever you are, now I place my hand upon you, that you be my poem,I whisper with my lips close to your ear.I have loved many women and men, but I love none better than you.O I have been dilatory and dumb,I should have made my way straight to you long ago,I should have blabb'd nothing but you, I should have chanted nothingbut you.I will leave all and come and make the hymns of you,None has understood you, but I understand you,None has done justice to you, you have not done justice to yourself,None but has found you imperfect, I only find no imperfection in you,None but would subordinate you, I only am he who will never consentto subordinate you,I only am he who places over you no master, owner, better, God,beyond what waits intrinsically in yourself.Painters have painted their swarming groups and the centre-figure of all,From the head of the centre-figure spreading a nimbus of gold-color'd light,But I paint myriads of heads, but paint no head without its nimbusof gold-color'd light,From my hand from the brain of every man and woman it streams, effulgently flowing forever.O I could sing such grandeurs and glories about you!You have not known what you are, you have slumber'd upon yourselfall your life,Your eyelids have been the same as closed most of the time,What you have done returns already in mockeries,(Your thrift, knowledge, prayers, if they do not return inmockeries, what is their return?)The mockeries are not you,Underneath them and within them I see you lurk,I pursue you where none else has pursued you,Silence, the desk, the flippant expression, the night, theaccustom'd routine, if these conceal you from others or fromyourself, they do not conceal you from me,The shaved face, the unsteady eye, the impure complexion, if thesebalk others they do not balk me,The pert apparel, the deform'd attitude, drunkenness, greed, premature death, all these I part aside. There is no endowment in man or woman that is not tallied in you,There is no virtue,.

Brass Ensemble Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.734613 Composed by Eliot Daniel. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. Contemporary. Score and parts. 10 pages. Chicory Music #6671801. Published by Chicory Music (A0.734613). On October 15, 1951, the very first episode of the I Love Lucy show aired on CBS and became the most watched TV show in the U.S. for four of its seven-year run. Fun trivia about the opening theme song is that during the first season the show opened with their sponsor Philip Morris’ animation of stick figure cartoons of Lucy and Desi climbing down a pack of Philip Morris cigarettes. It was scored with Ferde Grofé’s Jr. The Grand Canyon Suite theme (a composition from 1931).From the second season onwards, the I Love Lucy signature tune we all know so well became the main theme, and one of the most recognizable pieces of music on the planet. It was written by composer Eliot Daniel who cranked it out in an afternoon as a favor to his old Coast Guard buddy Jess Oppenheimer, the show’s producer. Since Daniel still had another year under his exclusive contract to Fox, he asked Oppenheimer to keep his name out of it. Consequently his name does not appear on first or the second season TV credits for what became one of the most popular TV themes. Later, Daniel did seek credit and received royalties from syndicated reruns for the rest of his life. The lyrics were written by Harold Adamson for an episode in the third season in which Lucy believes everyone has forgotten her birthday. So of course Ricky saves the day after a near disaster. This arrangement for Trombone Quartet / Choir plus optional Acoustic Bass and Drum Set parts remains faithful to the original.Performance Time Approx. 1 minute 25 seconds

Later, Daniel did seek credit and received royalties from syndicated reruns for the rest of his life. The lyrics were written by Harold Adamson for an episode in the third season in which Lucy believes everyone has forgotten her birthday. So of course Ricky saves the day after a near disaster. This arrangement for Trumpet Quartet remains faithful to the original.Performance Time Approx. 1 minute 25 seconds

Brass Ensemble,Small Ensemble Double Bass,Drum Set,Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.734625 Composed by Eliot Daniel. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. Contemporary. Score and parts. 11 pages. Chicory Music #6702907. Published by Chicory Music (A0.734625). The Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage

Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Instrumental Duet,Vibraphone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912928 Composed by Brandon Nelson. Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 11 pages. Brandon Nelson #2082127. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.912928). This work is based on the book by the same title. In it, one Abraham of Wurzburg, an aspiring medieval mage and devout Jew, describes a tour that he made of points in Europe and the Middle East, searching for a mentor who would not turn out to be a charlatan (or worse). Abraham eventually finds such a figure in a small town on the banks of the Nile. Here he meets the great magician Abramelin, whose system of magic Abraham sets out in detail. What results is the present volume, which puts forth a complete course in ceremonial magic (both white and black). In Abramelin’s system, after a lengthy period of self-purification and prayer, one may call upon one’s Holy Guardian Angel, who will then instruct one further on how to conjure up the princes and demons of Hell to do your bidding. The crux of this involves using certain special squares of anagrammatic words that would compel the conjured demon to perform specified tasks. In this piece, I take five of these squares and depict them in colorful, virtuosic tone paintings. (Learn more about me at bnelsonmusic.wordpress.com).

Calisthenics for Treble/Alto Recorder 15 Solo-Etudes, Gallops, Polkas, Variations (notation: treble clef) 15 entertaining solo-etudes: Rondos, Polkas, Gallops, Variations….. all suitable for intermediate to advanced students as well as professionals; as exercises for the fingers, just for the fun of it or as (shorter) concert /contest pieces or encores. What are Calisthenics? You’ve all come across them in one form or another….mainly probably in caricatures of Victorian or Edwardian men in boldly striped sportswear lifting heavy weights or Victorian ladies elegantly waving their arms around(see photo) We found the idea of daily exercises in combination with utterly lovely tunes so intriguing that we decided to call our latest publication Calisthenics The music combines training of speed, thumb technique, interpretation. Short: another great fun and educational publication. The word calisthenics is derived from the Greek, kalos, beautiful; and sthenos, strength; the object of calisthenic exercises being to secure physical beauty by developing the limbs and muscles of the human frame, and making the joints flexible, thereby giving strength and power, and ensuring a graceful carriage, erect bearing, and freedom to the figure. In the words of the old Victorians: The highest refinement of that beauty is unattainable without splendour of activity and delicate strength. Exercise is now recognised to be as great a necessity in woman's education as in man's we are learning that many bodily defects and much of her weak health is attributable to the want of it; more especially in youth, when the frame is growing. Such exercises must, however, be carried out under a system; irregularly conducted, they do more harm than good. The constitution must be coaxed, not strained; the strength not unduly taxed, no over-fatigue ensuing; for exhaustion makes people look worn and old. The exertion must not be too violent, and the health and physical development of each pupil must be specially studied. Early morning or evening are the best times to select, but on no account immediately after a meal. The clothing should not be too warm, nor interfere in any way with the action of the limbs. A musical accompaniment will best preserve the necessary rhythm - the time, four or eight beats to a bar; failing this, the pupils should be taught to sing or count in concert, thereby keeping up their interest and zest. A castanet will, failing better means, help to mark the time with or without music. One of our aims is to revive these compositions and bring them to the attention of players and audiences.

All 10 parts. 2. Flute, Bb Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Marimba, Piano. 3. Soprano Sax, Alto Sax, Bari Sax, Trombone, Marimba, PianoTime: Approximately 6:42The title came from the piece being dedicated to the composer’s wife. This composition reminded the composer of her delightful and kind character and her amazing and creative aptitude for organizing and resolving complicated issues. PianoThe composition process began with the opening piano motif. The harmonic and rhythmic foundation for this work is provided by the piano part. The piano serves a steady percussion with a repeating two-measure pattern of 8th notes. It also provides the harmonic foundation with an evolving arrangement of harmonies, which gradually change as the treble clef and bass clef harmonic progressions continually shift over time. The Wind Instruments This piece is comprised of three sections. Section A and C are similar in structure and harmony. In these two sections, the right hand of the piano part repeats a six-measure pattern composed of three triads: F, Edim and Dm. The left hand outlines a repeating eight-measure pattern of four triads: F, Dm, Cm and Bb. As these patterns repeat, the extra two measures in the bass clef cause the patterns to shift out of phase. This brings about a new set of harmonies for each repetition until the patterns begin again on the F major triad. The wind instruments are employed as a rhythmic and melodic counterpoint to the piano. Individually, and as a unit, they reinforce the harmony and rhythmic figures of the piano through echoing and syncopation. Section B utilizes the harmonic progressions of the other two sections but more notes to the triads to extend the harmony (examples: 9th, 11th and 13th chords.) There is also a clear contrast between the rhythms and harmony of the piano versus the wind instruments. The rhythmic and harmonic flow of this section decelerates until there is a complete stop. Section C begins abruptly with the wind instruments taking over the piano’s opening motif. This last section utilizes the same harmonic and rhythmic patterns as section A but the wind instruments become more active in their melodic and rhythmic counterpoint. The last part of this section is eventually dominated by the saxophone and low brass with a strong reiteration of the opening motif.

Percussion Solo,Timpani - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018954 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 1 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6078699. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018954). Programme Notes: This composition was written to be considered for pairing alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony #3, the Eroica, but can stand on its own virtues as an intense and slow meditation on heroism. The music is like a boiling pot on the stove that’s just began to overflow its bubbles. The first part of the title, kommos, is a Classical Greek term from Attic dramaturgy, literally meaning striking but specifically referring to beating oneself up during lamentation--ripping at the hair, gouging out the eyes--like Oedipus--slapping the forehead, and other acts amid moments of extreme emotional turmoil. For example, from Aeschylus's play Agamemnon, a character bewails: Apollo, Apollo! God of the Ways, my destroyer! For you have destroyed me-and utterly [...]What is this fresh woe [...]what monstrous, monstrous horror, beyond love's enduring, beyond all remedy? And help stands far away! We can easily imagine physical accompaniment to the script; rather than bottling up the pain, the hero lets it all explosively come out.  The second part of the title, When the world moved on, is an epigraph taken from American author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower epic. The primary setting of the novel, a world similar in many ways to our own, is experiencing a dark age where the glorious past is all but a distant memory and all good things are referred to wistfully as occurring, When the world moved on. Yet, the main protagonist, Roland, the last gunslinger, emphasizes that it is not just a figure of speech, but the literal distances between destinations have increased, the positions of the stars have changed, as well as the occurrence of other unnatural phenomena. The world has become a gulf of isolation from all corners. Taken together, this piece is a lamentation for when the world moved on. Truly completed on Yom Kippur during the Covid-19 Pandemic, being unable to fast or go to synagogue, this is my atonement.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Musical/Show,Standards. Octavo. Duration 133. Jim Ivy #bLtl7pcHmOevED0xqdd2w. Published by Jim Ivy (A0.1033592). Key: C major.Am I the only one here who remembers Saturday morning at the movies? No one had air conditioning or TV sets when I was a boy. The only way to cool off during those long, hot Alabama summers was to either jump in the creek for a swim, or go into town to the movie theater! On Saturday mornings we would pedal our bikes into town, where for a dime, we could spend half the day in refrigerated air comfort. There was always a double feature on Saturday and between the two movies, there was newsreel about the important events of the day, the weekly installment of the serial, one or two cartoons, and always a bouncing ball sing-a-long! Here is an arrangement that reminds me very much of those Saturday mornings. I had to figure out some new things (at least new to me) but I'm rather pleased with the way it turned out. It reminds me very much of those Saturday mornings long ago!

Woodwind quartet - Grade 3.5 - Digital Download SKU: DX.130424 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Dana F. Everson. Christmas. Sheet Music. Sacred instrumental music. Score and parts. 25 pages. David E. Smith - Digital Sheet Music #130424. Published by David E. Smith - Digital Sheet Music (DX.130424). A woodwind quartet with optional parts is presented in a joyful manner giving a sense of expectation. After a pert introduction, the melody is stated with a solo clarinet with answering figures rotated amongst the other voices. A joyful bridge section gravitates towards a modulation with the tune stated in the lower voices. The piece goes into a free, flourishing motion where it heads into yet another modulation. The tune now is doubled in the flute and clarinet with accompaniment figures moving in hemiola sets. After a set of imitation figures passed about the ensemble the piece goes into a coda section with more joyful figures.Key of F, Bb, Eb.

Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1449474 By The Candlelight Guitarist. By Bradley Powell. Classical,Country,Folk,Jazz,New Age. Guitar Tab. 6 pages. Geofonica Artistworks #1029230. Published by Geofonica Artistworks (A0.1449474). A beautiful, soothing and serene fingerstyle guitar solo, in a modern folk-classical style, by Bradley Powell (The Candlelight Guitarist). It is mostly played in 1st position (a few spots higher on neck), using folk-country chord voicings, with some softer jazz major 7th, major 9th, minor 9th chords. It is a fairly easy intermediate level piece (as far as technical difficulty), but can sound very professional as well. This sheet music is in Standard notation with TAB... (a version in Standard notation without TAB is also available). Hear Brad's recording at the YouTube link below--NOTE: this piece is the FIRST of the two pieces in that video.ABOUT the composer: Brad Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso, and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. When not making music, Brad is often out hiking with his four dogs. Brad also played as the solo guitarist for Disney's Princess Breakfast Adventure at Disney's Grand Californian Resort by Disneyland (March 2019-January 2024), providing music for the Disney Princesses (Belle, Tiana, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Mulan, Aurora, Ariel, Pocahontas, Cinderella, and their friends and guests).COMMENTS FROM LONG-ESTABLISHED REVIEWERS (for this and other Candlelight Guitarist recordings)...Bill Binkelman - Music Reviewer for Zone Music Reporter and New Age RetailerThe Candleight Guitarist is your tour guide to a land of easy-going, warm, and inviting instrumentals.Rebecca of Amazon - Amazon.com HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWERBradley Powell's flawless playing allows you to completely relax into sleep or relax into an evening of candlelight and romance.
