Originally thought to have been composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, a recent discovery reveals that this song is from an opera by Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel (1690-1749). This aria became very popular, which is why Bach's second wife Anna Magdalena, a fine soprano herself, copied it into her music notebook. There is another Instrumental Edition in Bb Major as well as five editions for voice including the Medium Voice edition which is also in C major.
