I Write the Songs is a popular song written by Bruce Johnston in 1975 and made famous by Barry Manilow. Manilow's version reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in January 1976[2] after spending two weeks atop the Billboard adult contemporary chart in December 1975.[3] It won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year and was nominated for Record of the Year in 1977.[3] Billboard ranked it as the No. 13 song of 1976.[4]The original version was recorded by The Captain & Tennille, who worked with Johnston in the early 1970s with The Beach Boys. It appears on their 1975 album, Love Will Keep Us Together. The first release of I Write the Songs as a single was by then teen-idol David Cassidy from his 1975 solo album The Higher They Climb, which was also produced by Bruce Johnston. Cassidy's version reached #11 on the UK Singles Chart in August of that year.[5]Johnston has stated that, for him, the I in the song is God,[2] and that songs come from the spirit of creativity in all of us. He has said that the song is not about his Beach Boys bandmate Brian Wilson.[6]Manilow was initially reluctant to record the song, stating in his autobiography Sweet Life: The problem with the song was that if you didn't listen carefully to the lyric, you would think that the singer was singing about himself. It could be misinterpreted as a monumental ego trip.[3] After persuasion by Clive Davis, then president of Arista Records, Manilow recorded the song, and his version of I Write the Songs was the first single taken from the album Tryin' to Get the Feeling. It first charted on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 15, 1975, reaching the top of the chart nine weeks later, on January 17, 1976. Wikipedia

It's a high energy, very exciting, Brazilian-Latin style instrumental from pianist Mark Massey's breakthrough jazz LP: API: Acoustic Piano International. The piano and flute interact, with the flute (performed by guest flutist Justo Almario) and piano trading sections of the main melody, and then providing dynamic background hooks and counterpoint. (These piano-flute lines are transposed here for Bb instruments. The tune is a great vehicle for musical interplay, jazz improvisation, and high energy rhythm section playing. The API track featured Eric Stiller on acoustic bass and Aldo Bentivegna on drums, with guest percussionist Alex Acuña of Weather Report, backing Mark Massey and Justo Almario. My arrangements there are cheaper and most of the revenue will go to the arranger (me) instead of sheet music plus.Another Beach boys quartet because The Beach Boys are great. As a teenager, I was definitely exposed to a fair amount of their music for some reason. It's not always easy to transform this kind of music into an idiom that sounds good as instrumental chamber music, however, this is part of my quest to develop a broad range of popular music that I can play live with a small group on the horn.This is great for university students and professionals... maybe even high school students. There are not a lot of great, challenging horn quartet arrangements out there, like this one is. This arrangement helps fill a niche for small ensemble in that horn quartet music typically lacks repertoire in most contemporary and rock genres. This one has a kit part included, which isn't necessary to perform this quartet, but might make it easier if a quartet to perform it with drums if they wanted to.The melody gets passed around a bit so it's fun and interesting for everyone. Score, parts and cover arts included. I hope someone out there tries this arrangement and has fun!

The Song was first recorded by Kamhal in 1982 for a country & western album he was recording, but stated it was not commercially viable because it was felt it did not suit the country & western style. Instead Roger Whittacker recorded the song, as well as other well known artists who had charted versions of it. The highest charted version of the song was by Bette Midler in 1988 from the soundtrack to the Movie 'BEACHES' It was released By Bette Midler in 1989 and spent 1 week at No 1 in US charts. It also won Grammy Awards & Record Song/Song of The Year in 1990.This Arrangement has been done as a solo for Bb Flugelhorn or Bb Cornet and captures the real essence of this beautiful melody line in all its glory and would be a great addition to any soloists port folio, and is a real audience pleaser.

My arrangements there are cheaper and most of the revenue will go to the arranger (me) instead of sheet music plus.I love The Beach Boys. As a teenager, I was definitely exposed to a fair amount of their music for some reason. It's not always easy to transform this kind of music into an idiom that sounds good as instrumental chamber music, however, this is part of my quest to develop a broad range of popular music that I can play live with a small group on the instrument I love - the horn.This is great for university students and professionals. There are not a lot of great, challenging horn quartet arrangements out there, like this one is. Depending on which part you play, this one may require a solid high range and/or low one (although some alternate notes are suggested for those who wish to avoid the extremes). This arrangement helps fill a niche for small ensemble in that horn quartet music typically lacks repertoire in most contemporary and rock genres. I've tried to have the melody move around a bit so it's fun and interesting for everyone. Score, parts and cover arts included. I hope someone out there tries this arrangement and has fun!

This set makes up a good suite for concert performance. Although listed as a tuba ensemble compositions, euphoniums usually play the higher two parts. All three are written in five parts. Optional substitute parts for French Horn and Flüglehorn are also included in this set, as well as euphonium parts in treble clef.Salutation Fanfarewas composed in 1985 for performance at the New York Brass Conference at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. That year, famous tubist Harvey Phillips was being honored at a special concert. This piece started the concert with the composer conducting an ensemble of about twenty euphonium and tuba players made up of Indiana University alumni, free-lance musicians and other friends of Mr. Phillips. The piece is based on the phrase Harvey Phillips Mr. Tuba. Simple Giftsis a traditional American folksong that has been arranged by many composers over the years. This arrangement was done in 1990 for performance at the International Tubists Universal Brotherhood Association Conference held in Sapporo, Japan. It was premiered by the Colonial Tuba Quartet that year. It has been arranged in four parts as well as this arrangement in five parts.Octubafest Polkawas composed in 1976 at the request of Harvey Phillips for performance at the Octubafest activities at Indiana University. It was premiered by the Indiana University Tuba Ensemble that year, conducted by Harvey Phillips. Mr. Phillips was the first to use the word Octubafest, probably in 1974 or 1975. Octubafest celebrations have taken place at many schools and universities ever since, usually in the month of October. He said that having an Octubafest celebration early in the school year provided an opportunity for new students entering college to get to know each other. At Indiana University during Harvey Phillips’ tenure (1973 – 1996) the Octubafest concerts were always followed by a party at Harvey’s house, making for a good time for all. Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer and conductor. He recently retired from Berklee College of Music where he was Professor and Chair of Composition, serving on the faculty from 1979 to 2016. He has written over ninety compositions for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles and soloists. He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally, including First Prize in the 1991 TUBA International Etude Composition Competition, for his Twenty Characteristic Etudes for Tubaan important part of the tuba pedagogy repertoire. His compositions include works published by several publishers in the United States, South America and Europe and have been performed extensively throughout the world. He has been a frequent traveler to Spain since 1993 and has promoted compositions by Spanish composers around the world. He is the only composer who has been commissioned six times by Spanish bands for Certamen competitions, with each band winning first prize. He has thirty-three compositions commercially recorded on Albany Records, MSR Classics, Crystal Records, Mark Records and others. He has been a guest lecturer, conductor and performer at many colleges, universities and music festivals in the United States, Canada, Japan, South America and Europe. He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1954 and has Composition degrees from the Boston Conservatory and Indiana University. He now resides in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida.
