But the piece works well without the descant as well...My arrangement captures the constant key changes of the original version, and it's played with a shuffle or swing rhythm (except for the semiquavers - the 16th notes - in the optional descant which are played in straight rhythm as per the original).This arrangement was a firm favourite with the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra (HAGO) and their audiences and the soundclip alongside the score on the SMP website is from a recording made live in concert.I hope you enjoy this piece as much as HAGO did!

Published by Will Corbin (A0.1459445). Ding Dong was composed as a French dance tune in the 16th century. A 19th century Englishman added lyrics that made it a Christmas tune. It was first published as part of a book of carols in 1924. From Wikipedia: The song is particularly noted for the Latin refrain: Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis! (Glory! Hosanna in the highest!), where the sung vowel sound o of Gloria is fluidly sustained through a lengthy rising and falling melismatic melodic sequence, extending the word to a 33-syllable-long lyric. Luckily, since this is purely an instrumental, you don't have to sweat the meaning of melismatic melodic sequence.This arrangement is for two trumpets, horn, baritone TC and tuba. This piano work was brought to the attention of the general public by the jazz rock group Blood Sweat and Tears, in the early 1970's. It's simple melody is supported by an even more simple background providing some easy listening for your audiences. This work will acquaint your students with music from the Impressionist Period and the teacher should select some traditional paintings to help set the correct mood for this type of work. Also, there should be lots of opportunities for the director to instruct the students into performing a work that requires a great deal of rubato shadings. All string parts remain in first position and a Violin III substitute for Viola part is included.
