Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.WES141-S). 9 x 12 in inches.As an arranger and transcriber of choral works for the wind orchestra, the most important responsibility I find is setting a storyline through instrumental textures. Several times I tried to embrace the depth of this work through its text. And though I thoroughly enjoyed its choral setting, I could not find the musical language that invited its instrumental conveyance. Then, on December 14th of 2012, while playing with my 8-year old daughter, I learned of the details surrounding Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT. There I sat, listening as a commentator told of the some 600 children at the school and their parents, who waited outside in a despair I cannot begin to imagine, hoping that their child was not one of the victims. Little by little, the children were released into the arms of their waiting loved ones. But nothing could have prepared me for the emotions that arose when I learned that the parents and grandparents of 20 children learned of their loss when they did not return to them. There are nowords to describe what this picture conveyed in my mind in that moment. But musically, what you are about to perform is the result. I deeply thank Blake R. Henson and GIA Publications for the right to transcribe this work on their behalf.

This arrangement for Low Flute Ensemble can be performed with as few as 5 players or a full flute choir with multiple players on a part. It is scored for 3 alto flutes, 2 bass flutes, and optional contrabass flute. I have always found the lyrics of The Impossible Dream extremely moving: To dream the impossible dream, To fight the unbeatable foe, To bear with unbearable sorrow, To run where the brave dare not go. Aimed for intermediat brass bands, this piece starts with a gentle lilt (dance) which gather intensity until reaching a symphonic mazurka style dance in the middle.The second of my 'Peebles Beltane Festival Suite' is 'Liltin doon the glen' inspired from the line in the Festival Song. It's around the turn of the 20th century and the young lassies from the many farms and villages from the glens surrounding Peebles, leave their homes to come and enjoy the festival - 'To gather on the village green and hail the festal day' 'Lassies blooming fresh and fair cam liltin’ doon the glen' - they pause for breath now and again and as they join their friends along the way, the dance intensifies into a mazurka style. At 2:10 the fanfares herald the many compliments they get from 'Huntsman gallant and sheperds grey, doughtyand blythsome men' they encounter along the way.
