Published by Erik Cole (A0.996139). A double reed transcription of the Dance of the Hours from La Gioconda, made famous by Disney's Fantasia. The Night section has been cut, as it's the least famous and included many string techniques that weren't very practical for winds to mimic, but it is otherwise true to the original. The 3rd parts are significantly easier than the others, but it is a challenging piece to take up to tempo, regardless. All oboe and bassoon parts are divisi. I was pleasantly surprised at how well almost all of it worked, especially after lowering the key to an easier C/F major which suits the oboe/bassoon range much better. The numerous rubatos/tempo changes were tough to accurately portray in a multi-track recording done to a click track, but I thought it generally came out well without too many inconsistencies. It's a very fun piece to play if your group is up to the challenge.

The B section is in B-flat major then returns to F major before the recap. With all repeats, performance time is about 2.25 minutes.

Small Ensemble. 73 pages. Duration 345. Published by Mlynczak Music (A0.478556). This arrangement for brass is of the lesser-known Great Fugue in G Minor and is such a fun work to play. The trumpet parts work well with a Bb Pic or Eb on the 1st part, and Eb or C on the second part. The subject, answer, and countersubject are all marked throughout. In addition, when a melody line is passed from one instrument to the other the score indicates where this passing is happening. This is a bit of a long blow but is very fun and quite challenging to create smooth linear phrases. I hope you enjoy it!

Score and parts. 78 pages. Duration 345. Published by Mlynczak Music (A0.478559). This arrangement for brass is of the lesser-known Great Fugue in G Minor and is such a fun work to play. The trumpet parts work well with a Bb Pic or Eb on the 1st part, and Eb or C on the second part. The subject, answer, and countersubject are all marked throughout. In addition, when a melody line is passed from one instrument to the other the score indicates where this passing is happening. This is a bit of a long blow but is very fun and quite challenging to create smooth linear phrases. I hope you enjoy it!

This is a transcription of the complete Pictures at an Exhibition for double reed choir. It is all in the original keys and based on the well-known Ravel orchestration, which is quite difficult. As a result, this arrangement is even more challenging. It is designed with at least 2 players per part in mind, and all of the oboe and bassoon parts are divisi throughout. The attached MP3 recordings are multi-track recordings of me playing all the parts. This was, by far, the most daunting recording I have put together for any of my arrangements, and I apologize for any minor imperfections in timing or pitch. In many places, this really stretched the limits of what I am capable of on bassoon. This movement is quite fun, and works pretty well for the double reed choir, except for the trills. The high trills are all doable, but are definitely a big challenge.

The middle slow movement is a very laid-back, bluesy number. The performers report that it is great fun to play and a real audience pleaser; great to open or close a program. Challenging but rewarding music.
