Come see if she has lost this e'en Her crimson pleated robe's soft sheen, That same blush which on your cheek plays. See how in but a paltry hour She has let fall her ailing flower. Her beauty lies there in the dust! Alas! How cruel is Mother Nature, Since such a blossom can endure Only from trembling dawn to dusk. Darling you must indeed believe, Whilst innocence within you cleaves The bud and blooms in purity, Garner the gifts of tender youth, For, like this flower, age in sooth Will sadly spoil and tarnish beauty. [Ronsard's original poem] Mignonne, allons voir si la rose Qui ce matin avoit desclose Sa robe de pourpre au Soleil, A point perdu ceste vesprée Les plis de sa robe pourprée, Et son teint au vostre pareil. Victorian Lights is result of my journey into the past. I have spent the past three years researching, collecting and editing Victorian and Edwardian music suitable for harmonium or American reed organ. My aim has been to show the lighter side of reed organ music. Most people expect hymns and sacred songs, but little is known about the every day use of the reed organ. American reed organs were well integrated in the daily life of the Victorians/Edwardians, since listening to the latest top of the pops was not a question of turning on the radio/MP3/streaming but quite a hands-on business. The pieces in this collection are medium to medium difficult and require a sound command of the reed organ. Some of the titles included in this edition: The Camels’ Parade The Royal Wedding March Princess Margaret Waltz Orange Blossoms Rêve de Jeunesse The Floral Schottische Fun to play.
