3 Catalan Carols for Voice & Guitar-Joseph and Mary
Small Ensemble Acoustic Guitar,High Voice,Medium Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU…

Small Ensemble Acoustic Guitar,High Voice,Medium Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1109097 By Simon James, Daniel Thomas, Matthew Thomas. By Traditional Catalan. Arranged by Simon James. Christian,Christmas,Classical,Contemporary,Traditional. Score and parts. 4 pages. DML #711641. Published by DML (A0.1109097). Catalonia has a great tradition of Christmas carols, rather like Austria. They are secular songs in general, intended to be sung by anybody at any time during the Christmas period and not specifically for use in church. According to the Catalan writer Joan Amades (1890-1959) these Christmas songs were sung by shepherds at the doors of the churches on Christmas Eve, some of the melodies date back to the 15th century. The English lyric, as with the Song Of The Birds (Cant Dels Ocells), is not a direct translation though the central elements are the same as the Catalan original. The arrangement is for two voices and guitar where the guitar part is challenging but vocal parts are not.

Classical,Contest,Festival,Jazz. Brass Band. 107 pages. Dale Vail #897836. Published by Dale Vail (A0.1308595). Christchurch Alive! - Brass Band Major WorkPlaying level : Suitable for bands of all levelsParts for British Brass Band, and transposed options for Bass clef Trombone/Euphonium/Baritones/Tubas and Horns in F.Christchurch Alive! was written for the Nor'west Brass Band in 2017 by Dale Vail as the own choice work for their first New Zealand National Brass Band Contest in 2018.Christchurch Alive! is a testimony to the spirit of the Christchurch Community, and their resilience to the life changing earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. The piece is built around the harmonic circle of fifths. The circle of fifths is famous for being a common harmonic pattern in both baroque and classical music, and jazz and modern music. Most influentially used by Arcangelo Corelli, the pattern appears commonly in the Johann Sebastian Bach's music, and the works of Antonio Lucio Vivaldi. In the modern age, it is most famously heard in Joseph Kosma's Autumn Leaves. Dale's piece takes the two sides of this famous progression, and links them into one seamless piece of music, symbolising the union of two eras making something new, much like pre-earthquake culture, and new post-earthquake culture, joining together to create a new community. The work opens with a traditional style melody, utilising a modern minor 7th tonality. Tubular bells sound 5 times, a clock tower striking 5am marking the first hour after the first earthquake. The band explodes into a New Orleans style street band theme, showing the nightlife and central city vibrancy that still exists amongst the repairs. This swaps to a Vivaldi inspired melody, using the same circle of 5ths progression, a blend of two different times, old and new buildings forming one city. A solo voice from offstage begins a cadenza, echos of a busker in the old arts centre markets, which brings one intoA nostalgic melody from the flugel. A reflection on what used to be. The circle of fifths becomes a I - V progression, stuck on a continuous loop, illustrating a longing to remember, and to restore what was. The circle begins to move forward again with a solo trombone taking the stage, a reflection on the late night jam sessions from the Christchurch Jazz School on Poplar lane. A Sibelius inspired melody reminds that whilst the past is remembered, it cannot be revisited. The flugel melody is re-harmonized, remembering what made the old Christchurch great, and taking that with us to the new Christchurch. All the themes are revisited and brought together in a vibrant ending, a hybrid of different communities, restored and new landmarks, and a resolve to make the future their own.The city is thriving and more alive than ever.

Piano,Soprano Flute - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1499262 Composed by James Albert Yeager. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary. Score and part. 43 pages. James A. Yeager #1075315. Published by James A. Yeager (A0.1499262). Foreword:Each movement revisits classic paradigms— (I & II) ternary song form,(III) theme & variations. The third movement treats the two themes as children at play with games such as tag and hide-and-seek as variations. Both themes become partner songs leading to fugue, which is, after all, the ultimate musical game.Performance Notes:I Moderato, slurs in the flute suggest phrasing but are optional in terms of breathing. The B section at letter C has a canon between flute and piano (left-hand) which suggests imitation in articulations and dynamics. The climax just before letter D can be stretched slightly more than poco rit. implies. II Slowly gently, must not be played slower than indicated. The middle section at letter B begins with a subito forte. At 3 measures before letter C the fermatas allow a certain freedom. When the flute releases the piano can continue the left-hand chord. The piano should use una corda in the bridge at letter C. Elsewhere, the piano may also employ una corda in quiet places ad libitum. At final note the flute can fade to nothing if breath runs out and just remain in pose as the final note of the piano is allowed to vanish.III Majestic with vigour, two given themes from ca. 1934 are Old Abram Brown by Benjamin Britten and Kookabura Sits on the Old Gum Tree by Marion Sinclair and both are rounds for children. The flute boldly declares theme one at the outset. The piano arpeggiations begin sonorously and quiet before letter A. In Variation 1 the piano must begin softer than the low register flute. The piano left-hand upper notes [A, then G, then D-A fifth) may require use of the sostenuto pedal. Variation 2 is a caccia or chase. Variation 3 is a barcarolle where theme 1 is hiding in the flute part. Variation 4 introduces the second theme (flute) in partnership with theme 1 (piano). Four measures before letter I the piano makes an ogre of theme 2 and should be humorously ponderous. The fugue subject might be the teacher who brings everyone into the final partner song of themes. The piece finishes as it began except for a wistful ending.James Albert Yeager (b.1946)James began his career as organist and choral conductor then harpsichordist and finally, professor of sacred music. As an organ major at The Ohio State University, he studied with Dr. Wilbur Held (B.Mus. 1969). Professor Joseph Goodman mentored him in composition at Union Theological Seminary in New York city (M. Sac. Mus, 1971). At the University of Colorado-Boulder, he returned to the organ, nevertheless, keeping composition as a mainstay (D.M.A. 1985). While in Colorado he composed two film scores for student filmmakers as well as choral and organ compositions. He was appointed Director of Sacred Music at the Pontifical College Josephinum (Columbus, Ohio) and rose to the rank of Professor (1984-2009). He retired as professor emeritus in 2009 and moved to New Mexico. While residing in Mountainair, New Mexico, he was organist/choral director for 12 years at a major Albuquerque church retiring again in 2021. He led choirs of all ages from children through the elderly. His most recent compositions include Passacaglia & Fugue for Organ and Chamber Orchestra (2022), a Fugue for Piano and Orchestra (2022), a Sonatina for Flute and Piano(2023), and the Sonata for Piano Quintet (2024) as well as several smaller works for voice and piano.

Sonata for Piano Quintet

Piano Quintet,String Ensemble Cello,Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1499301 Composed by James Albert Yeager. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary. 99 pages. James A. Yeager #1075356. Published by James A. Yeager (A0.1499301). Foreword:Each movement revisits classic paradigms—sonata form (I), ternary song form (II), and sonata rondo (III). The three movements of this piano quintet share a common element contained in the seed of a motivic idea—the interplay between the minor and the major 3rd : a tonal ambiguity or conflict of the minor 2nd. Stylistically, this Sonata pays modest homage to neo-classicism of 20th Century composers such as Poulenc (I), Prokofiev, Shostakovich (III), and perhaps even a touch of Gershwin (II). I hope this piano quintet will offer players and their audience chamber music that is a bit unusual yet worthwhile. The Sonata embraces the lightheartedness, the melancholy , and the whimsy of nostalgia. There is no separate piano part.Performance Notes:I Moderately fast, expresses dialogues of themes that move between piano and strings. The playfulness of the exposition (repeat is not optional) can give way to a more passionate building of the development to the climax at letter H. In the recapitulation the longer bridge remains steadily in tempo (no accelerando) relaxing just before letter N and theme two. The coda after letter O is a somber premonition of movement two.II Slowly, the bowings are ad libitum. The viola is chantlike and smooth. Violins glissando like the portamento of the Chinese stringed instruments, the Guqin or the Ehru type glissando leading to a very pure quiet long tones without any vibrato and the resulting fourth should be a pure tuning. The piano can use una corda ad libitum in softer passages, and the pedal (damper) ad libitum. In the B section (Letter D) pianist should treat the 64th notes like an ornament (upper mordent). Strings play the eighths after Letter G accents with strong bow changes. At the end, the piano lingers until the sound vanishes after the strings die away.III Introduction: Quick and spirited, the transition (Introduction) is measured and strict without alteration leading to letter A. The rondo theme, ‘A’ section, can slightly intensify in each successive repetition, but not slavishly. The small waltz or ‘B’ section, Letter C, the quartet might play to resemble a reed organ or harmonium—sweet, sonorous, and harmonious. The ‘C’ section, Letter G, big swell on short bridge passage, then pizz. strings become very rustic and like a peasant dance. Pianist can use una corda ad libitum in soft passages. Violins again after Letter I play similarly to non-vibrato of 2nd movement. The ‘B’ section at Letter L is now the grand waltz slightly faster and more indulgent with tiny rubatos tastefully allowed.James Albert Yeager (b.1946)James began his career as organist and choral conductor then harpsichordist and finally, professor of sacred music. As an organ major at The Ohio State University, he studied with Dr. Wilbur Held (B.Mus. 1969). Professor Joseph Goodman mentored him in composition at Union Theological Seminary in New York city (M. Bass Trombone,Horn,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1116038 By Polished Brass. By anonymous - Gruber. Arranged by Robert Coil. Chamber,Christmas,Holiday,Praise & Worship,Sacred. 12 pages. Polished Brass #717736. Published by Polished Brass (A0.1116038). This arrangement for brass quintet employs contemporary harmonies with the traditional melodies to provide a sound that is pleasing to the ear while making the pieces sound fresh. The top four voices take turns with the melody while the tuba sets a foundation with chromatic passing tones that should be given a little emphasis as they occur. Away in a Manger The first two verses are sometimes attributed to Martin Luther as “Cradle Hymnâ€, but definitive proof of Luther's authorship is missing. The most common version is based on words found in a Philadelphia Sunday School book by James Murray in 1885 titled “Luther's Cradle Songâ€. Silent Night Franz Gruber was an Austrian church organist at St Nicholas parish in Obernhof, a small town north of Salzburg. The priest at the church, Joseph Mohr wrote the poem Stille Nacht in 1816 and Gruber composed the music for guitar accompaniment for a Christmas eve service in 1818 because something, possibly a flood, had damaged the organ. So, rather than a keyboard composition, this was originally composed for guitar and voice. The composition was preserved by the man who fixed the organ and shared it with other churches as he traveled. Luckily a copy survived so that Mohr and Gruber could both be acknowledged for their creation.

Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.1069964 Composed by Steven H. Boothe. Children,Pop,Sacred. Accompaniment. Duration 215. Boothe Publishing #4633683. Published by Boothe Publishing (A0.1069964). Fourteen year old Joseph Smith went into a grove of trees to pray and ask God for help to know which church was true, and which one he should join. God and His son Jesus Christ appeared to him and spoke to him face to face. With the appearance of God and His son to the boy Joseph Smith, there was once again a prophet on the earth. This event came to be called the first vision. This vision proved to Joseph Smith that God is not dead. God and His son Jesus Christ are alive and love us today. They have not left us alone here in the world to work out our own salvation. The greatest teachers and preachers of our times cannot save us for they are subject to death. Only Jesus Christ could and did break the bands of death. God talks to us today through His prophets. He does not speak to us through those who say He is gone and has left them in charge. The only way to find truth about God is to study His doctrine and then talk with Him. Ask Him if what you are learning is true. With 4,300 Christian religions on the earth today, we can know through revelation from God which is His true church. There can be only one. God told Joseph that He had a great work for him to do. God sent an angel who revealed to Joseph plates of gold. These plates of Gold were records kept by Israelite prophets in ancient America. God brought them to this land of promise before the Jews were carried away captive into Babylon. I know this is true. You can read the Book of Mormon. You can ask God for yourself if it is true. Then you too can know, for God will answer your prayer.

String Ensemble Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.814000 Composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Christmas,Concert,Instructional,World. Score and parts. 11 pages. Regis Bookshar #6636667. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.814000). Violin Octet - Intermediate - Digital Download. This arrangement of Silent Night, or in German, Stille Nacht, would be a wonderful addition to any music library and could be performed for Christmas concerts, recitals, and, especially, church services. It is equally suitable for junior and senior high school students and even older musicians. Depending on their ability, younger musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (11 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Silent Night is probably the most popular Christmas carol ever written. It was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr and was first performed on Christmas Eve at St. Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, a small village in present-day Austria. A young Catholic priest, Father Joseph Mohr, had written the poem, Stille Nacht, in 1816 and had gone to Oberndorf in 1817. The melody was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber, schoolmaster and organist in the nearby village of Arnsdorf. On Christmas Eve, 1818, Mohr brought the words to Gruber and asked him to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for that night's mass, after river flooding had possibly damaged the church organ. The church was eventually destroyed by repeated flooding and has since been replaced with the Silent-Night-Chapel.According to Gruber, Karl Mauracher, an organ builder who serviced the instrument at the Oberndorf church, was enamored with the song, and took the composition home with him to the Ziller Valley in Tyrol, Austria. From there, two traveling families of folk singers, the Strassers and the Rainers, included the tune in their shows. The Rainers were already singing it around Christmas, 1819, and once performed it for an audience that included Franz I of Austria and Alexander I of Russia. They also gave the first performance of the song in the United States in New York City in 1839. By the 1840's, the song was well known and was reported to be a favorite of Frederick William IV of Prussia. During this period, the melody changed slightly to become the version that is commonly heard today. The version of the melody that is generally used today is a slow, meditative lullaby, or pastoral, differing slightly from Gruber's original which has a moderate tempo. The song has been translated into about 140 languages and has been recorded by many singers across many music genres. The version sung by Bing Crosby in 1935, has sold over 10 million copies as a single. In this arrangement of Silent Night, Regis Bookshar has kept the basic form of this familiar Christmas carol, but has also included a descant during the third verse. Also, in addition to this version for a Violin Octet, there are other arrangements of Silent Night available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. There are Quintets and Octets readily available for purchase. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that might also suit your needs.I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a wide variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this wonderful arrangement of Silent Night will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.
