Instrumental Duet Flute,Instrumental Duet,Viola - Level 3 - SKU: A0.588820 Composed by Sigfrid Mogulesko. Arranged by David McKeown. Hanukkah,Jewish,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6019045. Published by David McKeown (A0.588820). Chosn Kale Mazel Tov, (Good Luck to the Bride and Groom), is a Jewish wedding tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola.Often shortened to Mazel Tov, it is thought that the song was written by Sigmund Zelig Mogulesko. Born in Romania, he was a larger than life character who dominated Yiddish theatre on both sides of the Atlantic in the late nineteenth century. Mogulesko was a childhood prodigy, equally adept as a composer, playwright, singer, comedian, actor and impresario. Mazel Tov was written for a wedding scene in one of his productions but has since become one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards.Mazel Tov is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a slow and expressively beginning, the melody switches to dance tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Mazel Tov is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Mazel Tov is perfect for wedding and concert performances, both formal and informal. David McKeown #6020773. Published by David McKeown (A0.589287). Hava Nagila is a Hebrew Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Tenor Horn in E Flat.Hava Nagila was originally a Nigun melody thought to have originated in the Ukraine. In 1918 a professor and musicologist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, set the tune to words adapted from Psalm 118. Hava Nagila was first performed at celebrations at the end of the Great War and quickly spread throughout the Jewish diaspora. In the fifties and sixties, performances by singers as diverse as Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan popularised the song far beyond its original Jewish audience. Hava Nagila remains one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards today, traditionally performed at Jewish celebrations.Hava Nagila is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. David McKeown #6078931. Published by David McKeown (A0.589553). Odessa Bulgar is a Jewish Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Tenor Horn in E Flat. For many traditional Klezmer tunes, the first clues of their existence comes from bands making discs at the dawn of the recording era. In this case, Odessa Bulgar first appeared in a 1919 recording by Abe Schwartz’s Orchestra. Schwartz was born in Romania and emigrated to the USA around 1900, thereafter enjoying a long career in the music industry. Odessa Bulgar is a happy piece designed for dancing at celebrations. Odessa Bulgar is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment. Odessa Bulgar is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Odessa Bulgar is perfect for weddings, celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. String Ensemble,String Quintet - Level 4 - SKU: A0.575842 Composed by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century. Score and parts. 41 pages. David Warin Solomons #2028771. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.575842). This is sequence of string quintets (scores only). The movements are: 1 - Marie for shame, a sprightly number encouraging Marie to get out of bed and enjoy the day. It is inspired by the poem Marie vous estes paresseuse by Ronsard. 2 - Nocturne represents Marie going back to sleep! Possibly my most indulgent piece. 3 - Camp David is klezmer in style and somewhat camp, it is based on a Yiddish folk song - ikh bin a meidel in de joren. 4 - Blue Boar Blue is based on a poem by a friend who lived in Blue Boar quad (Christ Church Oxford) and laments the fact he has to stay in and study while he is actually looking forward to taking his girlfriend out punting on the river In each case, the ideal positioning of the instruments is: cello 1, violin 1, viola, violin 2, cello 2 The sound sample is an electronic preview of the first movement I thought it might be useful also to provide scores and parts for the separate movements since they can actually be played as separate pieces I have also made videos for each movement, which can be seen on youtube: Marie for shame http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5yvuM4G_Bo Nocturne http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mo0Iznzqr1Q Camp David http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nxl3W7opYA Blue Boar Blue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_Lry6DZgk8.

Published by David McKeown (A0.589314). Silver Wedding, (Die Silberne Khasene in Yiddish), is a Jewish Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola. Jewish Wedding bands, prominent in early twentieth century New York, were well placed to take advantage of the phonograph recording revolution. Accordingly, we are fortunate to have a rich record of the musical style of the time. Silver Wedding first appeared in a 1915 recording by Abe Elenkrig’s Orchestra. Elenkrig was born in Ukraine, which may point to the origins of the tune. Silver Wedding is in a Bulgar style, a happy piece designed to escort the newly-weds from the ceremony to the feast. Silver Wedding is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a short introduction and coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment. Silver Wedding is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around three minutes, this version of Silver Wedding is perfect for weddings, celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. Initially popular in the Soviet Union, a recording by the Barry Sisters in 1939 brought this song to an international audience.Bublitschki is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. David McKeown #6017117. Published by David McKeown (A0.589052). 7.40pm is a traditional Russian Jewish tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Tenor Horn in E Flat.It isn’t completely clear where the title 7.40pm comes from. One interpretation is that 7.40pm was the time the Odessa tram conductors finished work and danced to this tune. But there are versions titled 7.40am which may refer to the time of Jewish early morning prayers. Whatever the origin, there are several Russian recordings of 7.40pm that predate the 1917 revolution.7.40pm is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a slow and expressively beginning, the melody switches to dance tempo. 7.40pm is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of 7.40pm is perfect for recital and concert performances, both formal and informal.
