Small Ensemble Drum Set,Euphonium,Horn,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.802534 By Madeleine Peyroux. By Leonard Cohen. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Jazz. Score and parts. 23 pages. Peet du Toit #5770405. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802534). This Greek dance was inspired by the Holocaust, the death camps, the cremation, the cries, the fate... In some of those camps, prisoner musicians had to play classical music to their fellow inmates on the latter's way to death - no return... until the musician had to follow suit. Unlike Nearer my God, to Thee on the Titanic, these musicians were forced to do this. I became so emotionally involved in this arrangement... every sequence has a meaning: the high cries of the women and the children (flügelhorns), the low voices of the concern and physically defeated men (euphonium & french horn), the sirens (french horn), the promise of eternity (euph solo), the tuba (the continuous beat of walking towards one's death) and the perpetual percussion (the clock is ticking...) and the cyclical theme of endless love against all odds, remembering the good times in a dance with your loved one(s). Yours.

Frederick Frahm: Spaces of Night for voice and organ

Small Ensemble High Voice,Medium Voice,Organ - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533559 Composed by Frederick Frahm. Concert,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 26 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3020003. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533559). This is the composer's transcription of the original version for voice, organ and strings. Composer's note:On 31 October 1517, Dr. Martin Luther, according to church custom, posted a document presenting 95 theses intended for scholarly debateon the door of the Castle Church of Wittenberg. As a teacher, theologian, and a pastor he found much to be concerned with in the conduct of hismother, the Church. His intent was to begin a conversation over honestgrievances and to persuade those who would lead to take a path moreconsistent with the teachings they espoused.Spaces of Night takes its impetus from this desire to speak truth to power. It's music, with no small sympathy towards the tonal language and dialectof the classic American liturgical tradition, is at times parody and at othertimes anti-parody. It's libretto, while created 100 years ago by a celebratedAmerican author, speaks in our present age to an empire that has lost its way.Its voice is not one of despair and rage, but hope for and commitment to the future of the gathered community. If I should cast off this tattered coat,And go free into the mighty sky;If I should find nothing thereBut a vast blue,Echoless, ignorant —What then?

Small Ensemble Guitar,High Voice,Low Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.775412 Composed by Thomas Moore (1779-1852). Arranged by John Pinno. Concert,Holiday,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 4 pages. John Pinno #2856785. Published by John Pinno (A0.775412). An arrangement of the Irish song Dear Harp of My Country by the great Irish poet, singer, songwriter and philosopher, Thomas Moore (1779-1852), for voice with classical guitar accompaniment. The harp Moore refers to is a metaphor for the Irish spirit, creativity and musical traditions, and he ends the song by modestly asserting that all his fame as a song writer was really due to the wonderful ancient Irish melodies to which he set his lyrics. This song could be sung by several voice ranges, and should the pitch be too low, the guitarist can use a capo to raise it. For any questions or concerns email John Pinno at jpinno093@hotmail.com with Dear Harp of My Country in the subject line. Small Ensemble Alto Recorder,Cello,Guitar,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.575696 Composed by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Christian. Score and parts. 15 pages. David Warin Solomons #2026971. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.575696). I was entranced by the poem translated from an ancient rune by the Rev. Kenneth Macleod and I set it to music many years ago, originally calling it The Crofter's Song. ( - see the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6LBAMfAaRk ) it concerns a poor Scottish crofter who welcomes a stranger to his humble croft, feeds and entertains him, and finds blessing, ...for the stranger was Christ. This was one of the first of my songs using the Dorian mode. The following versions are available here The original song for alto and guitar A version for recorder quartet A version for flute and guitar A version for clarinet and guitar and A more complex version for recorder, guitar, piano and cello.

Handbell,Instrumental Duet,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1229040 By Linkin Park. By Brad Delson, Chester Bennington, David Farrell, Francis White, Joseph Hahn, Mike Shinoda, and Robert Bourdon. Arranged by P.L. Grove. 21st Century,Contemporary,Pop,Rock. 8 pages. P.L. Grove #824946. Published by P.L. Grove (A0.1229040). This arrangement of the popular Linkin Park tune is for five octaves of handbells, two octaves of handchimes, and tenor or soprano voice. The handbell part is not difficult (probably rated a Level 2 by handbell standards) and could be easily achieved by most groups. Ensembles attempting this piece should try to play the bells in a more lyrical/less percussive style to get the best result. P.L. Grove decided to arrange this piece shortly after the suicide death of Linkin Park's lead singer Chester Bennington. There have been many suicides in subsequent months, and mental health is a key topic of concern. This song shines a light on the issue of suicide and reminds us that we should continue to care. Velocity Handbell Ensemble is performing this piece at its 20th anniversary concert in May 2023 and may be able to post a video on its YouTube channel.

Voice, recorder and percussion - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q53825 Major: Dominant and Subdominant Triads. Arranged by Margaret Murray. This edition: score for voice and/or instruments. Orchestration - Orff Schulwerk - keys. Orff-Schulwerk. Downloadable, Vocal and performing score. Op. 3. Schott Music - Digital #Q53825. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53825). English.Carl Orff devoted much of his life to the development of a philosophy of Music for Children, based on his belief that music is the natural outcome of speech, rhythm and movement. His ideas and pioneering work have had a major influence on music and dance education throughout the world and today that work continues under the guidance of leading teachers and educators in many countries. The five basic German volumes of Music for Children by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman were published between 1950 and 1954. Editions have since been published in Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Ghana, Great Britain (including a special Welsh edition), Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latin-America, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and the USA. In 1952 the first edition in translation appeared an English language adaptation by Doreen Hall and Arnold Walter for their Canadian and American students. A few years later, Margaret Murray independently developed a version (1957-1966), essentially to fulfil the needs of United Kingdom teachers. Inevitably the considerable growth of Orff-Schulwerk in the United States led to the publication of the American Edition (1977) to satisfy the requirements of a different educational system and national heritage. Orff-Schulwerk: Music for Children has proved itself to be a stimulating source of material for music teaching. Carl Orff's fundamental educational ideas have revitalized music education in nursery schools, at all levels of primary and secondary education and in special music schools, based on the concepts that: - music, dance and language are inter-related and animated through rhythm. - when children discover, invent, improvise and compose, their experience of music is intensified. These creative activities are complementary to those of interpreting and listening to music. - all who take part are encouraged to contribute, not only vocally but also instrumentally. - the Orff approach to music education is many sided; it is concerned with practical music-making, it provides fundamental experiences and it lays the foundation for a comprehensive musical training. - movement games and activities for body awareness in space, time and flow, lead to movement improvisation and dance forms. - music and dance have been notated in many different ways in history. Various ways of writing down sounds and music, as well as playing from and interpreting different kinds of sources are being explored. Today, countless teachers and institutions are using these ideas. More and more teachers look for ways of involving their students in active music making. In particular, they seek to challenge their pupils' creativity by the use of music, dance and speech - as media of human expression - as a foundation of all education. A prerequisite for work in Orff-Schulwerk is the artistic and pedagogical training of teachers. The Orff Institute was founded in 1961 as a Department of the 'Mozarteum', in Salzburg, Austria. Training offered includes a four-year diploma course, a two-year post-graduate course, and a one-year-course in English. At the opening of the Orff Institute in Salzburg in 1963, Carl Orff ended his speech with a quotation from Schiller: 'I have done my part, now do yours.' That challenge has been taken up by teachers worldwide. Murray Edition English adaption, with additional material, by Margaret Murray. Besed on, and containing all the rhythmic and instrumental material from the main five volumes of the original German edition. Contents of this third volume: The instrumentation and range of keys are inceased. The settings include the chords on the fourth and fifth notes of the major scale.

Voice, recorder and percussion - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q42466 Pentatonic. Arranged by Margaret Murray. This edition: score for voice and/or instruments. Orff-Schulwerk - Rhythmusübungen - Kinderreime. Orff-Schulwerk. Downloadable, Vocal and performing score. Op. 1. Schott Music - Digital #Q42466. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q42466). At the opening of the Orff Institute in Salzburg in 1963, Carl Orff ended his speech with a quotation from Schiller: 'I have done my part, now do yours.' Large Ensemble Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869357 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 95 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #15877. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869357). Instrumentation: 2222-4231-timp-2perc-hp-pf-strings. Program note: First of all, a huge embrace for Max Hobart who has been so very supportive by promoting and premiering new works for the orchestra. Since 1991, I have written three works for Max and the Civic Symphony Orchestra of Boston. Symphony No. 4 ... War and Peace is my fourth contribution and this work is dedicated to Max. A year ago, John Finney and the University Chorale of Boston College premiered my Mass for the Holy Year 2000. It was a millennial commission by the Jesuit Institution for the community of Boston College. For that occasion I had originally planned to write a Mass whose texts would include both the Latin from the Ordinary of the Mass - Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus & Agnus Dei - and poems concerning the atrocities and senseless killing in warfare during the last century. However, as it turned out, the poems I chose ended up reflecting the Latin text, which is all about faith and redemption. But I still wanted to write an anti-war symphony. When I approached Max with this idea, he was very excited. Initially he was a little concerned that I might want to use the Tolstoy novel as my inspiration. I assured him that it would not be a four-hour symphony. In order to convey a political message through a symphonic work, texts set as songs are the most direct way. For this symphony, I have narrowed my focus to poems written by veterans of the First World War - some euphemistically call it the Great War. The first poem by Rupert Brooke, The Soldier, has an uneasy, patriotic cheerfulness to its message. The second poem by Wilfred Owen, Dulce et decorum est, is a more realistic view of warfare. Dying for one's own country is not so cool when the dead and the dying are staring at your face!!! The third and last poem by Ivor Gurney, To his love, reflects on the aftermath of war: peace, but at what cost!!! Rupert Brooke (1887 - 1915) died on a naval expedition near the Greek island of Gallipoli. He died of blood poisoning. Wilfred Owen (1893 - 1918) was wounded three times in France in the spring of 1917 and was sent back to England to recuperate. He returned to the Front, and was killed on November 4, 1918, just a few days before the Armistice was signed. Ivor Gurney (1890 - 1937), a composer as well, was acutely sensitive to the horrors of the war and, after being wounded and gassed in 1917, he was sent back home to a mental hospital. He died twenty years later without ever recovering from the traumas of war.Audio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/symphony-no-4-war-and-peace-2001

Brass Ensemble Trombone,Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1092447 Composed by Francesco Durante. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Instructional,Sacred. Score and parts. 8 pages. Regis Bookshar #696539. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1092447). Kyrie - by Francesco Durante; Brass Quartet – Intermediate – Digital Download. “Kyrieâ€, originally written for a four-part vocal ensemble by Francesco Durante, has now been transcribed, edited and arranged by Regis Bookshar, for a Brass Quartet, consisting of 2 Bb Trumpets and 2 Trombones. It would be a welcomed addition to any music library. This short composition, which lasts less than two minutes, will provide many students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long phrases, and to help them to continue to develop good intonation because many of the phrases cadence on a unison note. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (8 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble’s extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quartet version of this composition for many church services, especially funerals, when we were asked to supply something more somber and introspective rather than the louder, more festive music which many people come to expect from a Trumpet Ensemble. Francesco Durante was an Italian composer who was born on March 31, 1684 at Frattamaggiore, in the Kingdom of Naples. At an early age he entered the Conservatorio dei poveri di Gesu Cristo, in Naples, where he received lessons from Gaetano Greco. Later he became a pupil of Alessandro Scarlatti at the Conservatorio di Sant’Onofrio. He is said to have succeeded Scarlatti in 1725 at Sant’Onofrio and to have remained there until 1742, when he succeeded Nicola Porpora as head of the Conservatorio di Santa Maria de Loreto, also in Naples. He held this post for thirteen years, until his death on September 30, 1755. His fame as a teacher was considerable, and, unlike his Neapolitan contemporaries, who attracted international notice with their operas, Francesco Durante achieved recognition through his church music, along with some vocal chamber and instrumental works. His concern was not quantity. A complete collection of Durante’s works, consisting almost exclusively of sacred music, was presented by Gaspare Selveggi, a Neapolitan art collector and music theorist, to the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. The imperial library of Vienna also preserves a valuable collection of Durante’s manuscripts. The fact that Durante never composed for the stage brought him an exaggerated reputation as a composer of sacred music. He was considered one of the best church composers of his style and period. In his masses, requiems, litanies and Lamentations, he could provide strong expressive moments, as he does in this “Kyrieâ€. In addition to this arrangement for a Brass Quartet, Regis Bookshar has also made other arrangements of this selection. There are Quartets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I’m certain that this beautiful arrangement of Francesco Durante’s “Kyrie†will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

In addition to this arrangement for a Trumpet Quartet, Regis Bookshar has also made other arrangements of this selection.

Kyrie - by Francesco Durante; French Horn Quartet – Intermediate – Digital Download. “Kyrieâ€, originally written for a four-part vocal ensemble by Francesco Durante, has now been transcribed, edited and arranged by Regis Bookshar, for a French Horn Quartet. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (7 pages). Personet Armonia (clarinets)

Small Ensemble B-Flat Bass Clarinet,B-Flat Clarinet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799485 Composed by Anonymous. Arranged by Drake Mabry. Classical. Score and parts. 7 pages. Drake Mabry #3079033. Published by Drake Mabry (A0.799485). Personet Armonia comes from a collection of music composed in Cyprus during the beginning of the 15th century. Many French musicians and composers were active at the Cypriot court, and the town of Nicosia became one of the most important centers of the Ars Subtilior style. This piece provides a perfect introduction to the beautiful and mysterious world of this 14th and 15th century musical style. The duration is 3'50. The King, Janus I de Lusignan (1374-1432), was one of the most important figures in the music life of Cyprus. His daughter Anna, upon her marriage to Louis, Count of Geneva, took with her a thick manuscript, written between 1413 and 1426. It consists of 159 folios containing over two hundred polyphonic compositions both sacred and secular. Two peculiarities make this manuscript unique: first, not a single composer is mentioned by name; and second, each work is without exception a unique copy: not one has ever been found in any other manuscript. This, then, is the only record of the Cypriot Ars Subtilior style. The central compositional concern of those working in the Cypriot Ars Subtilior style was the logical, consistent attainment of the polyphonic ideal. Each voice is completely independent of the others, and moves through the polyphonic fabric to form a contour of its own. As to rhythm, Cypriot compositional technique is extremely complex. Ample use was made of rhythmic novelties such as syncopation, color and proportion, and new note symbols permitted the representation of note values that had previously defied graphical rendering. Thus, metric accents in the different voices almost never coincide, and the laws of rhythm were at times out of joint. In fact, a rhythm that was regular and without syncopation would stand out immediately as particularly conspicuous detail. This trio also exists in my adapted versions for either recorders or trombones. Paul Van Nevel has recorded a version for three sackbuts with his Huelgas Ensemble.

C Trumpet,Organ - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1247397 Composed by Philip Goddard. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Patriotic. 30 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #842033. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.1247397). Fallen Soldiers' is actually an adaptation of the 8th (penultimate) movement of the Composer's large organ work 'The Great Wilderness', which is entitled 'Summit Contemplation (On the Loss of a Fellow Climber)'. There came a time when the Composer was feeling particular concern for and empathy with all the troops who were being sent out to fight against threatening tyrannical regimes in other countries and in many cases whose lives were being lost for causes that were based on scanty understanding of the real issues involved - and he thought of the early 20th century French composer Jehan Alain, known particularly for his striking and beautiful organ music, which shares some elements this composer's own works. He got mown down on the battlefield in the Second World War in very touching circumstances, and now this composer felt moved to produce a short commemorative work for that one-time kindred spirit. It was not specifically intended to express any particular emotion, but this music, full of an intense feeling of loss and loneliness, was what came out. It is not the Composer's grief or loneliness, but something deeper in human consciousness that found its way into the composition process.
