For ensemble in four parts with optional percussion, optional keyboard and optional bass.Like many of Burnell's compositions this piece is suitable for homogeneous ensembles and also for mixed ensembles comprising atypical instrumental combinations or numbers of instruments.The instrumentation is not specified. The score shows clefs for parts 1-4 as if written for a string ensemble but other instrument combinations are possible. Parts are available in a variety of transpositions and clefs. Players may change parts between movements or, where a movement or section is out of range, they may be tacet. The keyboard may be a piano, or any other keyboard instrument such as harpsichord, toy piano, electric piano etc. adapting the playing style to interpret dynamics or note durations where these are otherwise not possible to achieve. The movement titles may suggest possible instrumentations. Movement I, Highlighting. Duration 3:20 approx Movement II, Swirling. Published by Modrana Music Publishers Ltd (A0.966297). The Piano Trio no 1 was commissioned, premiered and recorded by the Fenice Trio in 2002. This substantial piano trio contained much of Golightly's symbolism and is festooned with the composers use of DFG codes. Stylistically, it represents a landmark in the genre development of Golightly, linked as it is to much of the melodic and harmonic language of his first symphony. I highly personal work it is only for the most advanced piano trios. The duration is 26 minutes. Score and parts.Review. Piano Trio Letters of Regret. (2001/2)David Golightly's piano trio Letters of Regret was commissioned by The Fenice Trio, composed during the summer of 2001 and completed in February 2002. The first performance took place at the Middlesbrough Theatre in June 2002. The work is in three movements (Demon, Angel and Regrets). Demon, the shortest movement of the work, opens with a rhythmical gesture from the piano, soon joined by the strings. This moderately fast movement is actually some sort of whimsical Allegretto sometimes of Russian flavour. Reviewing David's First Symphony, the composerArthur Butterworth remarked that Golightly might well be a British Shostakovich.Indeed, the Piano Trio calls the Russian composer to mind, particularly so in this slightly ironic movement that rises up to a short-lived ghostly climax abruptly cut short. Angel opens mysteriously with ethereal static string textures softly punctuated by the piano. Later, the string's sustained notes are gently accompanied by piano arpeggios. Then the strings, and later the piano, make some unsuccessful attempts at a tune, hesitantly so and with some glissandi contradicting the attempted melody. Eventually, the cello, followed by the violin, launches a sorrowful lyrical song, still disrupted by nervous interjections eventually short-lived.The Angel movement, though remains emotionally and harmonically ambiguous throughout. It too ends unobtrusively. The Demon and Angel movements actually act as a twofold introduction to the last movement. Regrets that is some sort of theme and seven variations, a series of letters, written but not sent,as the composer remarks. This predominantly lyrical, often nostalgic movement is the emotional heart of what is obviously a deeply personal statement on the composer's part. Golightly's Piano Trio is a superbly crafted, beautifully moving work, not unworthy its models(Shostakovich or John Ireland), and a highly personal, quite accessible work of substance that deserves wider recognition and that should be eagerly picked-up by trios willing to add a new substantial work to their repertoire.Hubert Culot. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM553). ISBN 9790570484522.This is an arrangement of the last symphony that Haydn wrote. It was composed and premiered in London in 1795, and was an instant success. Following the standard four movement pattern of the time, it starts with a slow, serious introduction before the lighter, fast first movement begins properly. Using just one main theme, Haydn spins a delightful series of moods and emotions before rushing to the exciting conclusion. The second movement is more measured and controlled, but with episodes of drama and tension. The third movement is a traditional minuet and trio, with the lightness and humour of Haydn. The last movement has elements of folk music, with it's opening low drone and peasant like melody. Haydn however alternates the romping first section ideas with a more sophisticated, legato second section. This creates a delicious balance and has to make for one of the most satisfying symphonies ever written. This arrangement has been created with a range of playing standards in mind. The first and last movements use the full resources of the flute choir right down to the lowest double contrabass in C. The rarer flutes have optional parts so can be safely omitted, but add great depth to the sound. Flute 1 is quite complicated and involved, but then the parts get easier until flute 4 is fairly basic and could be easily realised by players with less experience. The second and third movements have been thinned down, with piccolo, G treble, contr'alto, subcontrabass in G and double contrabass in C being tacet. Also in these movements, flute 1 and 2 take the same line, while flute 3 and 4 are similarly in unison, with an optional contrabass part. These movements may be taken by four or five solo players, or some sections could be solos and others played by the full ensemble, or many other options.

For trombonists, mentioning the great Russian composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky usually conjures up thoughts of great orchestral works and grandiose symphonic playing. Here though, iTromboni’s Andrew Poirier has crafted a beautiful trombone quintet arrangement of two movements from one of Tchaikovsky’s more intimate chamber works, his: String Quartet No. 1 in D major, Op. 11. 1. Andante Cantabile 2. Scherzo The original second movement, Andante Cantabile, is one of the most famous pieces Tchaikovsky ever wrote and its marvelous melodic lines are delicately passed between each trombone voice. This is followed by the third movement which is an upbeat Scherzo, full of energy, rhythmic drive and syncopation. Each movement can be performed on its own or together as this beautiful 10-minute suite. This arrangement has been created to showcase each member of the quintet with both beautiful lyrical solos and demanding technical passages.

Published by Gary Powell Nash (A0.881261). Gary Powell Nash has composed a total of four soulful works, which includes 2 trios and 2 quartets. Each of the soulful works are based on and inspired by an American popular musical genre, particularly either jazz, gospel, spirituals, rhythm and blues or some combination of those. Soulful Quartet, No. 1 is the first work composed after that premise. Furthermore, during the 2006-7 academic year, Nash took trips to Vietnam, Spain and Ghana and thus was inspired to compose music based on those experiences. Soulful Quartet, No. 1 was the first composition written under that premise. It consists of four movements. Movement #1, titled The River is based on the song River in Judea as it begins with a slow introduction in compound duple meter and features harmonic progressions derived from the supporting tune. This is juxtaposed with a song-like melody that is also reflective of the principal motive in River in Judea. The following section features faster music, also in compound duple meter with cross-rhythms, derived from West African folk music. Movement #2 is titled Reflections and is a slow movement in triple meter. Movement #3, In One Lifetime is a fast, multi-metered work, mostly alternating 4/4 and 3/4. Movement #4, Blue Mali begins with a slow introduction with a blues-like melody and transitions to faster music, also based on West African folk music.

Following a recent experience on the jury of a guitar competition, I noted with great pleasure that Giorgio Mirto, with whom I had shared the role of juror, wanted to celebrate the experience of the competition - during from which we discovered that we had had a great affinity of thought - with something which could endure over time and not evaporate as often happens in short and occasional meetings between musicians. He did it as a true composer, which he is, and dedicated to me a very beautifully crafted Suite to which I allowed myself to collaborate at least formally, by suggesting titles for the four movements. This is how Suite n.1 was born, a piece that does not strictly respect the formal rules of the Baroque era, but reinterprets and reuses them in a new key. The work's obvious late Baroque inspiration led me to find titles that invited the performer to delve deeper into the work's aesthetic inspiration. So I suggested to Giorgio that he title the four movements with something that linked their content to four greats of the 18th century. German masters. The prelude has thus become from Eisenach because of its sometimes improvised Bach-like atmosphere, the second movement, vaguely toccata, speaks an organ language in the manner of Buxtehude (who lived in Lübeck), the slow movement has a Handelian quality - and Handel was born in Halle - and the last movement, far from being a true Chaconne, undoubtedly has the latter's taste for variation and ostinato, typical traits of Telemann who lived in Magdeburg. The cities that appear in the titles are therefore indelible to the authors cited. Furthermore, one should not think that the style of the work is in any way German, given that Giorgio Mirto expresses himself in a very joyful language that synthesizes modality with minimalism, all seasoned with a a nod to Pink's progressive rock Floyd. or a Mike Oldfield... The result of this mixture of ideas, inspirations and styles is a work that personally I never tire of reading and rereading, for the freshness that emanates from it and for the climate expressive which rises, nourishing itself with full efficiency. We ultimately cannot ignore that the note B, the one which marks in a minor way some of the most expressive works of the guitar repertoire, from the study of Sor which made generations of students fall in love with the guitar, until to that of Frank Martin's Four Pieces via La Catedral di Barrios, is the modal fulcrum of the entire Suite: it is true that the Prelude begins with a clear chord in E minor and lingers on an open ending in A minor , but it almost seems that the initial E serves as a launching pad for a continuation of the work in which the dominant, that is to say the B, is the true musical North, the pole star which guides us in the other three movements until the end of the Chaconne de Magdebourg. I wish Giorgio and our Suite great longevity and a favorable destiny in the complex and complex world of contemporary guitar composition. Il l'a fait en véritable compositeur, ce qu'il est, et m'a dédié une Suite d'une très belle facture à laquelle je me suis permis de collaborer au moins formellement, en suggérant des titres pour les quatre mouvements. C'est ainsi qu'est née la Suite n.1, une pièce qui ne respecte pas strictement les règles formelles de l'époque baroque, mais les réinterprète et les réutilise dans une nouvelle tonalité. L'inspiration évidente du baroque tardif de l'œuvre m'a amené à trouver des titres qui invitaient l'interprète à approfondir l'inspiration esthétique de l'œuvre. J'ai donc suggéré à Giorgio de titrer les quatre mouvements avec quelque chose qui reliait leur contenu à quatre grands du XVIIIe siècle. Maîtres allemands. Le prélude est ainsi devenu d'Eisenach en raison de son atmosphère parfois improvisée à la Bach, le deuxième mouvement, vaguement toccata, parle un langage d'orgue à la manière de Buxtehude (qui vivait à Lübeck), le mouvement lent a un Qualité haendélienne - et Haendel est né à Halle - et le dernier mouvement, loin d'être une véritable Chaconne, a sans doute le goût de cette dernière pour la variation et l'ostinato, traits typiques de Telemann qui vivait à Magdebourg. Les villes qui apparaissent dans les titres sont donc indélébiles aux auteurs cités. De plus, il ne faut pas penser que le style de l'œuvre soit en aucune façon allemand, étant donné que Giorgio Mirto s'exprime dans un langage très joyeux qui synthétise la modalité avec le minimalisme, le tout assaisonné d'un clin d'œil au rock progressif Floyd de Pink. ou un Mike Oldfield... Le résultat de ce mélange d'idées, d'inspirations et de styles est un ouvrage que personnellement je ne me lasse pas de lire et de relire, pour la fraîcheur qui s'en dégage et pour le climat expressif qui monte, se nourrissant de plein efficacité. On ne peut finalement pas ignorer que la note B, celle qui marque de manière mineure certaines des œuvres les plus expressives du répertoire de guitare, depuis l'étude de Sor qui a fait tomber amoureux de la guitare des générations d'étudiants, jusqu'à celle de Frank Martin Quatre Pièces via La Catedral di Barrios, est le point d'appui modal de toute la Suite : il est vrai que le Prélude commence par un accord clair en mi mineur et s'attarde sur une fin ouverte en la mineur, mais il semble presque que le mi initial sert de une rampe de lancement pour une suite de l'œuvre dans laquelle la dominante, c'est-à-dire le B, est le véritable Nord musical, l'étoile polaire qui nous guide dans les trois autres mouvements jusqu'à la fin de la Chaconne de Magdebourg. Je souhaite à Giorgio et à « notre » Suite une grande longévité et un destin favorable dans le monde complexe et complexe de la composition contemporaine pour guitare. This is the first of a set of twelve trio sonatas by Domenico Gallo which were mistakenly attributed to Pergolesi. The first movement was made famous by Igor Stravinski in his Pulcinella Suite. The three movements (Moderato, Andantino & Presto), have been edited and arranged for flute, clarinet in A and bassoon or cello. Players of intermediate standard and above will enjoy the three well contrasted movements.

This is an original composition, in three movements, for flute, violin, and classical guitar, composed in 2006. This piece comes with full score, plus separate parts for flute, violin, and guitar. In 2005 I was asked to play in a chamber music performance, with a flautist and violinist, and was surprised to see how little published music there was for this combination....lots for flute , viola, and guitar, but not much with a violin in the mix. The few works I did find were written when composers felt that the guitar should sit in the background and play endless arpeggios, completely devoid of any melodic interest. This Serenade of mine aims to correct that problem. Timing: movement I ~ 3:30, II ~ 5:15, III ~ 3:15 This works very well as part of a classical guitar recital, when it's desirable to add a chamber work. In three movements, ending with a minuet and trio. All three parts share the melodic interest with some delightful interplay between them. The second movement is the longest at 99 bars, the others are somewhat shorter. The oboe parts never go higher than top D, but do both include low B flats; the bassoon part reaches top F.
